Top 3 Middle Eastern food in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

June 20, 2020 Brandee Mangan

Find out what Middle Eastern restaurants to try in Cambridge. Home to two of America's most prestigious universities, Cambridge exudes a certain intellectual quirkiness. A mix of historical haunts, student hang-outs, alternative art and culture venues, vintage clothing shops, bookstores and ethnic restaurants, the city is, well, really cool. Although it is located just across the Charles River from Boston, Cambridge has a distinct vibe that is noticeable immediately. Start at Harvard Square, a hub of activity and mishmash of trendy stores, outdoor cafes and colorful local characters. Pick up a walking tour map at the visitors information booth in the center of the Square. The route will take you past many important landmarks including the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Tory Row and the Longfellow National Historic Site. Harvard University offers student-led tours through the illustrious buildings and monuments of its sprawling campus. Art and architecture buffs should meander around the M.I.T campus, which includes outdoor sculptures by masters such as Picasso and 20th-century buildings designed by modern greats like Eero Saarinen and I. M. Pei. Along the way, browse through bookstores, stop to watch street performers and grab a coffee at an outdoor café to take in all this captivating city has to offer.

Oleana

I love Oleana and have gone there many times. The food rarely if ever disappoints. Highlights last night were the fatteh, lamb and summer squash roulade, sultans delight, the striper, and the deviled eggs. The one area for improvement is the welcome. The servers are always nice, but ... I always leave with the sense that they aren't very interested in the customers, because the food is enough to get people to come back.

The Helmand

Our first time trying Afghani cuisine. The restaurant was attractive...I even saw a few beautiful rugs, service was helpful (though one order was initially incorrect, it was quickly fixed.) The appetizers were especially good, and my friend said the rack of lamb was delicious. My meal was good, but less spicy than I was expecting. Again, this was my first time eating Afghani cooking. We were pleased there was a quite nice wine list.

Having lived near SOFRA and all of its glory, I have long been awaiting trying its sister restaurant, and I was not let down! The small plates are so creative and was fun to try a variety of things. The pork belly biscuits were life-changing! Do not miss it.
