Reviews on Mexican food in Canterbury Region, South Island, New Zealand. Christchurch, the Garden City, and the Canterbury region are the perfect destination for daredevils. From northern Kaikoura to Waimate in the south, Canterbury is an adventure sports paradise. Hangliding, helibiking, bungee jumping, snowboarding, jetboating, rafting and skydiving get the adrenaline going. Golfing, flightseeing, swimming with dolphins and soaking in thermal pools are more laid-back temptations. Christchurch, a city of parks and gardens, is the countrys third largest urban area.

In Christchurch for work so we came into the strip for look at what was happening on a Tuesday night. After a great cocktail at Amazonita we popped into to this very busy restaurant and while not overly optimistic about scoring a table we were met by a cool looking Niels who had us front and center without fuss. ( smile when you arrive you never know who is watching ). The menu has something for everyone - my advice is be adventurous and you will be rewarded. We really enjoyed the tuna / coconut salad, the beets, the mushrooms and the squid. Oh and the rioja was a perfect match. The service has some attitude but when you look around at the art and surrounds you should expect this vibe actually, you should enjoy this vibe because its fun and totally in keeping with the personality of Chawhawha. Definitely coming back when next in Chch.

I'm not really a fan of rum, but the cocktails here are amazing, and they have a good beer and wine list too. The highlight is fresh guacamole made right at the table, which is really tasty. The pork belly bites were so good I needed another bowl. If you're into salsa dancing, make sure you get along there on a night they're doing that too!
