Reviewed By Jigster45We stayed at Finlay Jack's for 4 nights with our 2 boys who are 6 and 9. We loved our room which had an ensuite bathroom. The shared kitchen facilities were always clean a d the gas stoves worked really well. Our boys LOVED Biggy and how cute he was. We hopefully will be back sometime soon.

Modern, cosy hostel

The room was quiet, the hostel clean, and we enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of the shared facilities, large kitchen and dining room. Good opportunity to meet other guests. Very friendly and hospitable owners! We will be back as the area around Turangi has a lot to offer.

Reviewed By vighbWe have paid for a night here. The room itself was ok. Good price and seemed clean. However , we didn't stay. It looks like an abandoned barracks. There was no one around. Couldn't see another guest. Lovely check in lady. Very hospitable. However, right next to pub and supermarket which could be handy, but we didn't feel safe there. Looks unloved and unsafe-Looked derelict and unwelcoming. We left immediately after paying. Not for us.

Reviewed By AtomantCancunThis backpackers WAS great. Since changing owners the prices have increased by more than 100% and the service has gone from great to terrible. You can't get worse than no staff on site when you need them. I don't mean that the staff popped out- they leave a key on the counter and are not there at all. In addition, despite the prices which are now very close to hotel costs for non-dorm rooms (increased by more than 100%) , they continue to use reviews which say great value based on prices before they increased them, which is deceptive.

Reviewed By graciepacie2022stayed in room with a double bed, warm room with great view. staff were very kind and helpful. good place for a short stay nice and close to everything, yes it was loud at night but that is expected in the middle of town. would be prefect for a group of people who are wanting to go to the local bars. will be going back!

Loud and very basic
Reviewed By AmysTravellingWe stayed in a Standard Room with Communal Bathroom. It cost $125 for the two of us. The room was a good size. The room was very basic - probably too basic. There were no cups or glasses in the room, despite their being a kettle and tea/coffee. The remote to the tv didn't work. We found a skittle on the floor when we first arrived so not sure about their cleaning process. There were not many power outlets. The hand dryers in the women's bathroom didn't work. But the biggest complaint is that there is no soundproofing whatsoever so you can hear every footstep and voice in the hallway. It is in a fairly good location.

Not bad but could be better. No Wifi
Reviewed By 45Lachie45The bloke that served us was top notch but the actual accommodation was a bit of a letdown. I was travelling with my mates and we were on a tight budget and the price was not horrible but I felt it was a bit steep for what we got. The place was all locked up when we got there giving off the feeling that it was not too popular. The room was alright but the TV was fuzzy and there was no wifi available, even though it says it on the website. We just felt like this place was a bit run down and not as good as we thought from looking online.

The owners are down to earth & very friendly. Accomodation met our needs & is affordable clean, tidy & orderly. The premises is located in town close to everything. We were very pleased with our short stay & we will be definitely recommending & booking again :)

Our hostel is in an iconic building slap bang in the best position in Taupo. We are one block back to from the Lake with elevated views thanks to our enormous sundeck. We are 2mins walk to the I-site and bus station and an easy stroll to all the best entertainment Taupo has to offer. Our activities desk will book all your trips at our special discounted rate. Grab a dorm bed or a private room, kick back grab a sundowner and head out to the deck. The BBQ is ready to rock and summer is on the way! Rates start from $18 - BoB's is where it is at this summer in Taupo.
FREEZING COLD
Reviewed By Jessi SStayed here before in July and thought it was fine... but this time, was the heating broken?? No heating at all, no extra blankets, and no staff anywhere to be found. Three degrees outside and I’m pretty sure it was the same in my bed, could see our breath inside- if I wanted to do that I would have stayed in my sh*tty Wellington flat. When we checked in staff were aloof and unfriendly, giving us zero information. And I haven’t even got to the noise yet... we expected it to be noisy but it was worse than we expected (again, been here before and it was fine!?) they say they will give you free earplugs, but good luck finding any staff who you can ask. Also the kitchen only had one spoon so I’m including that because it was stupid.
