This is my family's second trip to Shalimar since my daughter started attending RPI.My wife and two daughters and my daughter's boyfriend went for the all you can eat buffet on Sunday. The food was fresh hot and spicy (some dishes). I like the location in an older area of Troy which looks on the rebound.... kinda reminds me of Scranton PA. (my old stomping grounds) The restaurant is in a probably 100 all year old building, The bathroom is down in the basement, nothing fancy but functional. If you're in Troy, and you like Indian food I think you'll enjoy this restaurant, we'll come back.
Love this food! Whether it is more Indian (my preference) or Thai inspired, this food is always interesting and flavorful. A nice treat after doing your bit for local farmers and buying your organic veggies and meat for the week. Adds a great smell to the Saturday morning air. It's all good.

I am married to a Punjabi for the past 46 years and he will not go to an Indian restaurant unless I have gone for lunch with friends to check it out. On this glorious Friday afternoon, girlfriend and I showed up for the buffet a little before 1 and were really pleased to see the restaurant full and the food being replenished continuously! I was impressed with the 4 different kinds of meat being offered including chicken tikka masala, goat, tandoori chicken, and chicken curry. What impressed me the most is that there was PLENTY of meat in all those dishes and not just sauce! The naan was warm and puffy and served hot to each table. The vegetables looked good as did the basmati rice, but I have to admit I stuck with the meat. Kaju burfi and rice kheer were both offered for dessert but we both passed on the sweets. My only complaint is that every time that door opened diners were hit by the cold air. Do hope the owners will address that. Otherwise, there is not much ambience, but the buffet was $9.67 a person and well worth it. I think I'll bring hubby for dinner!
