Drake Diner

When I mentioned to a friend I was staying at the Holiday Inn express next door he told me about this place. It almost looks like it is attached to the hotel but it is a stand alone business. While food selection is basic diner food the place inside is more upscale than what I know as a diner from the NYC area and the food is much better than basic diner food.If you go you better be ready to eat the portions are big. The service is friendly and the service was fast.It is also a short walk from the Drake campus so if your there for anything this would be a great place to eat or to go before a sporting event on campus

Waveland Cafe

I haven’t been to the Waveland in a while, but wanted to revisit with a friend who had never been. It hasn’t changed! The food and service are still great. Going and sitting at the counter alone isn’t a problem since the servers are very welcoming. Hash browns are a must try. One day I will actually try their lunches, but their breakfast menu cannot be beat.

Smitty's Tenderloin Shop

The tenderloin makes a great sandwich if you are looking for something off the beaten path. Great history. Sandwich was good and onion rings were good as well. If you are near the airport and want something different yet fills your belly with some good old fashioned fried food this is the spot to stop at.
