The Sabaragamuwa Province, (Sinhalese: සබරගමුව පළාත Sabaragamuwa Palata, Tamil: சபரகமுவ மாகாணம் Sabaragamuwa Maakaanam) is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils. The Sabaragamuwa Province contains two districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle. It is named after its former indigenous inhabitants, namely the Sabara, an indic term for hunter-gatherer tribes, a term seldom used in ancient Sri Lanka. Sabaragamuwa University is in Belihuloya.

When choosing an elephant project around Kandy, you have quite a few different options.
The reason why we chose Elephant Freedom Project, was the fact that they didn't offer elephant riding. Instead, we walked, fed and washed the elephant.
We haven't visited any other orphanage, but this place really seems to care for the animals.
This was a great experience for both kids and adults. Our guide was very friendly
and knowledgeable and made our visit enjoyable.

Concrete steps to the top. Dirty and strewn with rubbish.
This is spiritual pilgrimage, not a travellers trek.
There are locals of all ages, some really struggling with the steps and I can’t see how rude tourists barging past them in an effort to get to the top as quickly as possible adds to their experience.
The view from the top is good but it’s very crowded.

It’s such a shame how they organise these Jeep Safaris. When we arrived there was a huge queue of 4x4’s waiting for tickets (a process that can take up to a couple of hours!). We were lucky as our driver was very experienced and luckily had a friend near the front of the queue-so instead of a wait of 90 minutes we only waited about half an hour. What I don’t understand is why the whole process can’t be more streamlined-there is an awful lot of “rubber stamping” in Sri Lanka and, even though it was peak period, there was only one person selling tickets! Again, our jeep which could have had 10 or 12 people only had the two of us! If they rationalised numbers in vehicles it would be much better for the environment and easier viewing as there wouldn’t be as much traffic spooking the animals.
That aside, the Safari was excellent with lots of animals to see and photograph in the most idyllic setting. Obviously I can’t compare Udawalawe to the other National Park Reserves but we thoroughly enjoyed our morning-if only the companies could streamline their procedures.

Hanuman Temple it is that place where Hanuman take rest during the Parvat taken for Lakshman injury. At the time of Hanuman Temple we take part in the Arti as well Srinagar of Lord Hanuman. We take so many photographs. Nice Temple and the Murti of Hanuman is nearly of 20 feet.We take part in the arti of Hanuman.

Horton Plains National Park is a best place in Sri Lanka for camping. There are 3 camping sites and we have to pre-book a site at the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka. I prefer site near chimnee pool. All three sites have sanitary facilities. Can not drive vehicles to sites. All sites are located about 600m from Hotron Plains visitor center. According to the rules of Wildlife Department we were not allowed to make fire at night. We have to bring portable stoves for cooking. Making meats (BBQ) also not allowed.

Its a long trek or a drive from the main road. Check on the water level before you start off as there's only a trickle of water in the dry season.

Beautiful experience, we saw many kinds of animals, different species of birds, crocodiles, foxes, deer, lizards, buffalos...We saw a couple of elephants, hiding in a bush at the beginning of the tour. After 5 hours or so we should have been on our way back, but our driver took extra effort looking for more elephants as he finally found a family of 5 members with a baby elephant! He was very patient and spent there another 30 mins with us to make sure we enjoyed the tour fully. The elephants got so close we could have nearly touched them! At one point, one of them got too but our brave driver chased him away. We went without a guide and it was ok but I think that the success of the tour really depends on luck and on your driver.

I visited Lanka in December, it's been 5 months and I still remember the Xclusive Adventure experience.l!!!!
Their machaan /treetop tents are unique still comfortable experience, located next to the river that does away with a need for music due to the constant gushing sound, their barbeque under the star and a highly motivated team that is always willing to help. The owner worked in Dubai for a few years and had come back to his home country and set up this beautiful place giving us a loveable experience. I don't remember the gentleman's name now but keep up the fabulous work, good for the Lanka tourists that you returned and set you such a beautiful place.
The place doesn't even cost much which is against the belief that good things in life don't come cheap!!!
I also did the rafting and canyoning with them. I have done Rafting in Rishikesh, Manali and Kundalika (all in India) and found kitulgala rafting to be equally good. The owner even took care of my 1yr infant when I went for rafting!!! But, canyoning was out of the world experience. Jumping from the rocks, flowing with the waterfall and all other crazy stuff we did... this happens only in Lanka and you've got to opt for canyoning if you visit Kitulgala.
Xclusive Adventure is recommended to all those that visit Lanka. I took my friends and family along and they appreciated and enjoyed it. Close your eyes and trust them blindly because they believe in tourists satisfaction and extending all the warmth to make our a memorable one!!!

I was lucky enough to join a tour in Seethawaka Wet Zone Botanic Garden guided by a well known professor. It is a very beautiful place not that far from Colombo. Can be reached within 2 hours from Colombo. Turn left from Puwakpitiya, Awissawella near railway station and travel about 1/2 hrs further . The road is not good anyway. I have noted that lot of couples are coming there to get the "Preshoot" or Wedding shoots.( but they may have to pay an extra fee) There were several blocks named according to the type of trees there. Excellent place for relaxation. There was a big crowd there on the day we visited since it is school holidays. Families were seated under the trees and enjoying and relaxing.

Visited here whilst staying in the area, this has a peaceful setting with a wonderful view down over the Reservoir. The church has many English links with an interesting graveyard. The caretaker and son opened the church for us to view inside and were at pains to help and inform us of the history especially once they found out that my wife's ancestors once lived in the area
