An hour or two south of Recife, Porto de Galinhas was made for the not-so-extreme tourist. Raves one traveler, "It's what it doesn't have that makes it great:" no heavy traffic, no nightlife to speak of. Explore the natural tidal pools that form in the reef, feeding fish that swim all around you; or ride a dune buggy to romantic Muro Alto beach. Or skip all that and doze in a hammock by the warm, green, clear Atlantic.

Good beach to visit. The height of reefs help create pools that don't disappear during high tide. Water is a bit colder than other Beaches with natural pools. Not too much fish to see compared with Cupe Beach and Natural Pools of Porto da Galinhas. Still a good option to visit once other pools have disappeared during high tide.

Make your experience better by crossing the water at low tide instead of the hysteric affair with the Jangadas(boats). On the beachside just across from the reef the prefeitura of (Ipojuca) Porto Galinhas has an Office. Pick up your time/tidal information here and the Free but obligatory arm bracelet to make the crossing. At first you will be in a group crossing the water but soon enough on the reef you will find plenty of space to wander around on the reef and around the pools. Beware of litlle crab, sharp edges and the many sea urchin!

At this beach at the end of the road from Recife to Maracaipe you will find this beach. It is also known for the thousands of sea horses at the inlet. Definitely a good place to take a stroll along the beach. Many good lunch places along the strip. The waves are excellent for some Surfing.

Glorious beach. Clean, warm water, dramatic waves. Loved this beach more than just about any beach we've ever visited. We can't wait to return and stay at Pousada Maracamba again.

Not only because of the nice resorts offering all you need but also because of the atmosphere the beach brings. Good waves, sandy Beaches without any of the dirt you find at Beaches like Boa Viagem. Walk for an hour along the beach to the center of Porto de Galinha - nice stretch offering different views all along.

Idyllic beach near Porto de Galinhas. Less people and the natural ponds are just there, dont need a boat to enjoy the snorkeling. Great for young children and families. Go prepared as there are few places to buy snacks or water. Better if you are staying at the hotels in this beach.

We walked to the river during low tide just to walk across the "river" when there was no water. It was an unique experience to see the sand formation of the river bed. Didn't do the boat tour, so can't comment on that.

Great stop to understand the fauna of the area. Recommend for kids as a break from the beach circuit in Porto de Galinhas. The exposition is short and focused on the hippocampus found in the area. Volunteers are there to teach about these interesting animals.
