Discovery Harbour traces its roots back to the original British naval and military base in Penetanguishene, built to safeguard access to Upper Canada after the War of 1812. "His Majesty's Naval Establishment on Lake Huron", (as it was first called) kept ships prepared to supply British posts to the northwest. By 1820, it was home to over 70 people, including sailors, officers, shipwrights, and soldiers. Five large ships, 15 smaller vessels, and numerous workshops and dwellings were built. In 1828, a British garrison on Drummond Island was relocated to Penetanguishene. By 1834, Canada was defended exclusively by these forces. An impressive stone Officers' Quarters was built in 1845. The military occupied the site until 1856.

Was a good little trip, the two recreated ships are interesting to see. It is also a good walk, the staff are dressed in period but their knowledge is limited as I am pretty sure they are students. The buildings are neat to go through and the hull of the original ship is nice to view. Not too much for the history, as they basically let the ship rot at dock, it wasn't sunk from any battles. I would include this as a part of day trip and not dedicate just to this. Don't forget the helpful vote.

Love the water.
Campground was no pets, no radios, so it was great!
Sort of clean.
Friendly staff. Peaceful. Long drive to the 1st beach and longer walk to remaining Beaches.
Not too much garbage on the Beaches.
Expensive to camp and expensive firewood and ice.

One of the nicest parks I have visited. We live only minutes from this park, having moved a year ago, and having found it love the park and area. The view of the bay, quiet walks, dog park for our friend. And in the summer our grandkids loved the splash pad. Do drop by and visit.

We enjoy cruising when we go to various vacation spots. We knew we had to see some of Georgian Bay and the Islands and later learned this the last year for the Georgian Queen out of Pentanguishine.
It was easy to call and book tickets and they even allowed us to change days when the weather forecast did not look good for the day we had booked. The captain is great at explaining what you are seeing and telling stories along the way.
As an old icebreaker it is a fairly large boat so there is some limits to where it can go. It would have been nice to have returned by a slightly different route but it was nice to see the Islands again after hearing the stories as we had passed earlier. It is also a slightly slower ship so it is a 3 1/2 hr cruise.
If you have a chance to go in 2014 make the effort and you won't be disappointed.

There are times when I feel like I have been “cathedraled-out” after travelling through Europe’s major cities, however I found this church to be very lovely and refreshing in this landscape. We arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday and found the doors wide open, and we were able to explore the building on our own. I loved the large murals on the walls and ceiling and beautiful stained glass windows. It was nice to see the beautiful landscape outside the doors, a lovely church in a beautiful setting. Well worth a visit.

This isn't an exciting tour, but a group of 9 of us went on the cruise for my dad's 70th birthday. Lots of seniors on the trip, and families too. We went on the Serendipity. There's a top level of the boat which is open to the air (and rain ... yes, it rained), a middle deck with tables and chairs, and a lower deck with more Seating, washrooms, and bar service.
Sit on the left side of the boat. All of the sights are on that side. We sat on the right (assume the paddle rudder is the back) and had to strain to see all of the sights that the recorded voice was explaining. Most of the time, there is not recording, but when it comes on, it's referring to sights on the left-side (shore line).
Wednesdays is 2-for-1. This made it a good deal for us.
