Spending a quiet sunday afternoon in the old town of Burgdorf, where Pestalozzi a famous Swiss Pedagogue lived there and started with several educations projects from there.
It's a lovely typical old Zähringer Town with nice and lovely Cafes and restaurants and Shops. There are really a plenty of attraction to see and the view from the castle is amazing.

Architecturally speaking, the building is great and worth a look. At least from outside or in the lobby for free. Unfortunately, there is a little to see inside : just a few works from the great artist Franz Gertsch and a temporary exhibition. A library and a cafe are also available. That is it. I found the entrace fee CHF 12 too high for the little I saw and was a bit disappointed. The museum is located about 5 to 10 minutes walk from Burgdorf train station.

We did the emmentaler cheese cycling route on e bikes hired from the velostation in burgdorf( a short train ride from Bern) and we had a fantastic day! Cycling in Swiss countryside between dairy farms through rolling hills with beautiful views of the Swiss alps and the sound of cow bells what more could you want!! It took us 5 hours and we used the 'app' which uses your gps on your phone so you don't need Internet/wifi to do it. We couldn't have done it without the app as it come with Map and directions as well as interesting info on each stop. Lunch was at an old cheese farm the emmental show dairy we had raclette and there were plenty of local dishes on the menu. It was so nice to get out of the city for a day and experience country Swiss life we would highly recommend this as a day trip from Bern.

Die Mitarbeiter/innen sind sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich. Auch spezial anfertigungen oder anpassungen der Messer sind möglich. Lassen sie sich beraten, sie haben das messer fur jede Situation. Ich habe bereits meine Kochmesser und einige messer fürs Zelten, Geocachen und andere Freizeitaktivitäten gekauft und war immer zufrieden.

Burgdorf is a model of historic town planning, with a feudal high town between the castle and the church mound, and a low town at the foot of the castle rock, where the tradesmen were based. Today the station district and historic centre with its intimate squares are popular places for shopping and strolling, for entertainment and all kinds of markets and culinary delights.

Berne miniature? yes, to some extent, but Burgdorf has more to offer. a very pleasant old city, free of hazzle, easy to stroll, between the railway station and the castle. worth a stop on your journey or at least an excursion day.

The church of Burgdorf is a Swiss Reformed Cathedral, in the old city of Burgdorf, Switzerland. Built by Niklaus Birnenvogt in the late Gothic style, its construction started in 1471 and was completed in 1490.
8. Reformierte Kirche Burgdorf
This late gothic pillar basilica is the largest religious building in the city of Burgdorf. It was build from 1471 - 1490 by Niklaus Birnenvogt who was also master builder at the minster of Berne. The tower is 72 meters high and the rood screen, which was built in 1512 by Heinrich Kummer is know to be the most valuable one in Switzerland.
9. Siechenhaus
The lazar house or leprosarium was a place to quarantine people with leprosy (Hansen's disease) in the middle age. It was used for this purpose until the 17th century. It's the only one of it's kind in Switzerland still in it's fundamental form. The leprosarium in Burgdorf was first mentioned in 1316.
10. Bartholomaeus-Kapelle
The chapel right next to the quarantine house was built with sand stone in 1446 by Heinrich Fritag. It is one of the few field chapels that survived the reformation and is nowdays still used for services.
