Visited here with friends and overall had a bad experience. The staff was impolite and aggressive around closing time. The Schützenhaus staff tried to kick us out even before the restaurant was closed and did not give us space to finish our beer. Constantly told we had to leave because they were closing. Inappropriate service industry behaviour. Will not return.

Just half a mile from Burgdorf, Berne, right in the middle of the fields and the hills of the Emmental. Nice location, away from the street, i.e. quiet, large Terrace, a modern banquet room and facilities. Creative kitchen, friendly people. We had a few family functions there over the past few years and the experience was always and consistently very good.

Burgdorf is only a dozen minutes away by train from Bern and for lovers of excellent food, the Emmenhof is a wonderful destination. The highly accomplished yet modest chef/owner, Werner Schürch, can cook with the best of them, as evident in the terrific menus available in the elegant gourmet restaurant. If you like to eat more modestly - both in price and preparation, the homey Gaststube is the perfect place to try local specialities cooked with great care and featuring impeccable ingredients.
It was in the Gaststube where I had a wonderful lunch during my last visit of the Emmenhof. Led by the charming and warmly welcoming Margrit Schürch, the service in the Gaststube is efficient and highly professional. There is a good number of wines by the glass available, we started with a fine Italian sparkling wine while perusing the tempting list of main plates, mostly priced at an incredible 19.50 sFr! These plates might include a local version of trippa, an excellent Swiss variation on Tafelspitz, or a plate of fresh local fish - all marvelous. If you desire, a soup course is added for only 3 francs (our soups were a complex gazpacho and a vegetable soup made with spring herbs) - delightful.
After finishing with desserts of fresh berries from the market and a fine eau-de-vie, the trip back to Bern felt even shorter than our trip to the Emmenhof. I highly recommend this restaurant to all visitors of Bern who love great food. The brief hop to Burgdorf truly vaut le voyage.

A surprising find in the middle of a 17th century town. The wine list is extensive as is the menu. We ate the egg plant and the curry which was surprisingly good. My friend at the Cordonbleu which was excellent. For for dessert a must is a selection of ice cream which includes green tea coconut and chocolate with chilies

I visited twice during a recent visit to an exhibition in Bern. I've been visiting regularly for about four years and enjoy the hospitality.
This month's visits resulted in good quality meat, though the potato part of the meal was dissappointing. The menu offers a good selection and the pizzas seem to be very well regarded.

Gasthäuser in the countryside usually offer traditional Swiss food at fair prices. While visiting the beautiful Emmental region I stopped for lunch at Landgasthof Löwen, which proved a very good choice. I sat in the "Heimiswiler-Stube" - cozy and nicely decorated room.
Thumbs-up to Nadia (one of the three owners) for her smiling, attentive and efficient service - Swiss hospitality at its best.
As starter I chose the "Nüsslisalat" (lamb's lettuce salad) with poached egg and fresh mushrooms. Good seasoning and very tasty. As I visited mid-October the menu also included a range of venison dishes. The main course was "Geschnetzeltes vom Wild" (sliced venison served in a rich creamy sauce) served with all the trimmings (red cabbage, chestnut, homemade spaetzli): tasty and generous portion. I indulged myself with a mousse au chocolat for dessert, served with egg liqueur. Truly delicious.
Swiss price level is admittedly very high and Gasthof Löwen is no exception. The bill amounted to CHF80, however the good food and excellent service are definitely well worth it.

After visiting the beautiful Old Town of Burgdorf, I had lunch here as this bistro-style restaurant is listed in the Gault Millau guide.
Thumbs-up for the great service during the entire meal: the tenant was unobstrusive, motivated and really efficient.
No a-la-carte lunch - but a choice between the "Tagesmenu" (i.e. Menu of the day) and the Businesslunch.
I chose the first option - comprising of tomato soup as starter, and sliced veal strips with tagliatelle as main course. Both were really delicious.
The bill is rather on the pricey side. But it is well worth it.

The title says it all, you go inside to check out a new flower vase or a chair made from the giant roots of a tree or just a new candle stand and you are right in the middle of it. The coffees and teas are quite good and the atmosphere is almost a little 'chic' - not found too often in the Emmental :-)

serendip is originaly a indien restaurant....but they also serve traditionally swiss food. or anything you like to order. i ate there some indian food a while back....just brilliant cooking....i adore indian food.....but heard siss food is excellent too.
