Went for lunch and had the cheese and onion Marsala dosa. Wasnât sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. The guy that served us was so nice and so helpful. The place was very clean with a wash basin to wash your hands as there isnât cutlery( they will provide it needed) We ate the Sri Lankan way which is a lot more fun and seems to taste so much better it also means you get to lick your figures with out people staring at you and thinking your being rude. Itâs a vegetarian restaurant which suited us just fine even though we occasionally like a little meat.

Youâll find this place opposite the red & white mosque. Itâs extremely busy at lunchtime with locals pouring in here for their lunch hour. Pretty quiet outside lunch hours and it does have a quieter first floor with balcony. My Caesar Salad was good although it could have done with more cheese and some anchovies in the sauce. My partnerâs seafood chowder was a bit of a let down - too thin and full of chopped peppers and chicken (?). Weâd come back here and stick to local favourites. The kotthu guy seemed very busy :)Thank you for the review. The downstairs is not part of Cafe1886 and we operate only in upstairs. your comments on the chowder is noted and will strive to improve.

Today was my first visit. So far the food I had were the least oily when compared to other places in Kandy. (Both dishes were rice) So me and my husband decided to try again as the food were tasty and worthy for the price.

We had the curry buffet and thoroughly enjoyed it. Place was busy with people who were coming back for the second or third time. My sister had recommended the spot three years prior, and the food lived up to expectations. The owner was very friendly and even performed some Beatles songs for us on his guitar. Warm and friendly spot- we will be back!

Really nice place to take something to drink or eatin the city center of Kandy, just nextto the temples. The place has a cute atmosphere aad the food is delicious, specially fruit juices. Our waiter Sathish was very polite and helpful. They also has awesome vintage postcards and posters that you also can buy.Alba and Candela

I read some good reviews on this place and wanted to find somewhere decent to take my partner for lunch on his birthday. Very pleased with the meals and service. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and minced lamb, and finished off with the watalappam and vanilla ice cream for dessert. The location was lovely overlooking Kandy city and the staff were very nice.

This is not a luxury western restaurant, rather a snack-bar, but a very good one. Probably the best in Kandy. So off course it is busy and off course there is gestion and movement. But the juices and the meals (deviled chicken, nasi goring) are very tasty. You will find as many Sri Lankan people as tourists here and that is always a good sign. You will have a great choice, very friendly waiters and good and honest food. And this at a stunning price.

My wife and I went here for the views and the cocktails only to be told when we arrived, no cocktails. From there the night got worse. Service was bad, food was average and to top the night off we get to the end and are told they only accept cash. After all the nice places we ate in Sri Lanka this was a real disappointment.
