Serendip Stone Bungalow & Hotel

Overview Serendip Stone Bungalow is beautifully located on two acres of lush tropical gardens near the Mahaweli River. Set in a rural area, the hotel is an ideal location from which to explore Kandy and yet be removed from the hustle and bustle of the town. Serendip is a refurbished colonial bungalow that has been caringly renovated maintaining the old architectural features and infusing them with elements of contemporary design. The nteriors are stylishly finished with soothing neutral colours, and a blend of antiques and modern furniture, cooling cement floors, wooden pillars and verandahs. You can relax in a planter’s chair on the verandah or soak in the Jacuzzi in the back garden. At night dine under the stars surrounded by scented candles and oil lamps. The garden has some lovely fruit trees that attract numerous species of birds. Rooms The hotel has seven bedrooms, named Saffron, Jasmin, Habarala, Jack Fruit, Araliya Shade, Mahaweli View and Sunshine – all with beautifully designed interiors and stylishly designed ensuite bathrooms. All of the rooms are furnished with antique canopied double or twin beds. Ensuite bathrooms are completed with polished cement infused with colour and solar powered hot water showers. The Sunshine Suite is the largest and most spacious and has a King sized bed. Saffron and Jackfruit have an inter-connecting doorway making it ideal for families; the Mahaweli View and Araliya Shade rooms are located at the front of the house and have the best views of the garden and river. Interconnecting Rooms: Yes (Saffron And Jackfruit Rooms) Family Rooms:yes Fine Dining Meals are served at the Serendip Stone Bungalow and are prepared with fresh vegetables from nearby villages, herbs and spices. Sri Lankan rice and curries as well as western dishes are served in the garden or by the pool according to guest’s wishes. Alcoholic beverages including wines and cocktails are available. Serendip has a chef who is personally trained by the owner and housekeeping staff who is helpful and discreet. Facilities The spacious lounge area opens out to the front verandah and has satellite TV, telephone and Wi Fi internet. There is a swimming pool with Jacuzzi at the back with sun loungers. What We Say This is a great alternative to the resort type hotels at Kandy with some smartly designed room interiors that bring a modern touch to a colonial period bungalow. Located in a suburb just outside Kandy, but close enough to get to the town centre within 20 minutes. Best Time To Go The best time to visit Kandy is undoubtedly during July or August of each year when the 10 night Kandy Perahera Festival transforms the city into an amazing spectacle of colour and street processions.

Excellent Property with Genuine Staff!

We went there for our little one’s birthday celebration. We choose the hotel by seeing it on the web, there were some attractive photo which impressed me a lot to choose the property. When we went to the property it was an absolutely WOW feeling! It really is a huge property, you have enough space to move around. The large statues are surprising! The colorful fishes available in the pound are lovely to watch for our small ones. The Reception team members provided a warm welcome, especially Receptionist Kevin is a professional and friendly boy, who is an asset to the establishment. We had a wonderful time at Serendip Stone Bungalow & Hotel. Mr.Manjula, the manager of the property was our first point of contact at the resort was very friendly, helpful, and more importantly he was always reachable. The swimming pools were super awesome, the kids pool (2ft Deep) and the adult pool (5ft deep) are available for our convenience, which are well maintained too. The cleaning of pool is regularly happening, my wishes to the cleaning/gardening staff! The Food and beverage staffs were so kind to arrange the birthday decoration. Special shout out to Ranjith for fulfilling all our special requests in food and beverages and providing high quality service. The food was so delicious, thank you chef.   It's definitely worth the hype and once you experience them then you realize others don't match up!!  Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend a vacation at Serendip Stone Bunglow & Hotel. I strongly recommend this place for a peaceful and enjoyable family time. We would definitely visit again!

Amazing accommodation and food!

Reviewed By Adventureswithleo

We can't recommend this highly enough. We were greeted with such warmth and amazing hospitality. There are 2 rooms to choose from. Both are clean, comfortable, a good size and have their own bathrooms. The beds have mosquito nets and there are also really good fans if it is warm. We were asked if we would like any food and wow!!! Very glad that we said yes!!! The vegetarian curry (with so many different traditional dishes) was absolutely delicious. Possibly one of the tastiest meals we have ever had! Fresh, full of amazing flavours and made with love. We spent quite a while chatting with the lovely family who own the house and they gave us lots of great information and recommendations. We also just had a great time chatting with them as they are so lovely. Before heading to bed we were asked what time we would like to have breakfast in the morning, which is included in the price and very tasty. We will definitely stay here again. One of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka!

Rukgala

Awesome property with lots of activities

Reviewed By Victoria B

We arrived in Rukgala later than planned (around 5pm) due to traffic and Emma was very kind to let us extend our check out the next day so we can spend some time to enjoy our stay (as we were only there for one night). The check in process was quick and we were treated to a fresh coconut upon arrival which was enjoyable. The room was gorgeous! I love the modern and bright decor with pops of colour! The only minor complaint is that there is no shower curtains, so the bath area does get quite wet when you use the shower. Also, not pictured is a ladder to leads to another bed on a upper level. I loved that Rukgala has lots of activities of visitors. For a fee, you can join yoga classes. You can also explore the lake as we did, which was really fun! Unfortunately, it started raining when we were at the lake. So we were not able to kayak or swim! Rukgala’s food was phenomenal! It was one of the best breakfasts I had in Sri Lanka - homemade muesli, curd and honey, egg hopper, and fruits. Dinner was also excellent - we had an avocado toast starter, a green curry with prawns for our main, and a homemade banana cake for dessert. Guests could also help themselves to coffee and tea throughout the day.
