Small but Mighty!!!

Reviewed By NicoleB3217

My wife and I stayed in one of the Queen rooms with a bath in room. The room itself was quite compact, but so smartly laid out, it didn't really matter. Everything was very clean and the fact that the bed is up on a platform, really improved the sleeping experience. No saggy mattress and we both slept great! For being so centrally located, the room was also very quiet. We stayed over a weekend and were only 1 flight up from the lobby. So we should have been able to hear street noise from outside or sounds from the bar in the lobby . . . but we didn't! Excellent sound proofing and blackout shades in the room provides a great, restful sleep! The location can't be beat! An easy walk from Back Bay station and to a bunch of Cafes and Restaurants in the Back Bay made this a super easy and convenient spot. Next time I have to travel to Boston, this hotel is going to be the first one I check for reservations!

Hammetts Hotel

A great addition to the harbor, bnut with some issues

Reviewed By thrushgeorge

SO, the new Hammet's Hotel is a striking addition to the street-scape and harbor in Newport. It is well thought out in many respects. The rooms are quite small, but very nicely done. Separate shower/ toilet room from the sink allows two people to occupy it comfortably. And there is a beautiful restaurant and bar at the main level, but– and here is one of the issues– it is very popular and being a hotel guest gives you no advantages in getting in. As a result, on a busy Memorial Day Weekend, it is as though there is no hotel bar. At over $500 per night, this seems like a missed opportunity. As it is, the main level of the lobby side of the U-shaped courtyard has a few meeting room and a barren lobby with no music and too bright lights. If you want a drink, you must walk across the courtyard to the restaurant, buy an unopened bottle, and open it yourself in the lobby. Nuts! So, in short, hotels like this, with small but stylish rooms, usually make up for it with great social spaces. Here, they have done so at the public restaurant, but not in the hotel itself.

Pleasant stay on a cold weekend

Reviewed By RoadTripToSFO

I stayed in the Keeper's Cottage for two nights and enjoyed my stay. The space is colorful, clean, and the heater was able to keep up with the wintry weather! There were a couple of matters of attention to detail that bothered me, such as several burned-out light bulbs across the cottage. I also thought one of the proprietors seemed rather cold when I had a question and a miscommunication that resulted in an odd situation for me (though the other seemed much more outgoing). However, by and large this was a good base of operations for my weekend of experiences in Lubec.

The Inn Downtown

When traveling do you miss creature comforts of home? Not a fan of Laura Ashley bedspreads and victorian era BnBs? Do big box chain hotels feel nondescript and cold? This place was perfect. So close to all of the restaurants and shops. The room was immaculate. So nice to have a refrigerator for leftovers. They have thought of everything with the refreshments and snacks in the room. No contact check in and out was extremely convenient. Will definitely be coming back. Doug and Abby were easily accessible if anything is needed. It was a great stay.

What was meant to be a stress free celebration of commencement, the billing has been impossible from beginning to end. Firstly my credit card wasn't accepted, being a foreigner the bank was closed in my home country so check in was not permitted even though a cash alternative was offered. My daughter (student) had a holding deposit placed on her card of $2000. To get this removed and put onto a different card has been impossible. Charges were however put through on the new credit card immediately and they have since overcharged by $1000 which is still trying to be sorted out. Has dampened our entire experience of commencement celebrations !!!!

Enchanting and relaxing

Reviewed By Roving10479039135

I visited yesterday with my girlfriend and spent a night in the Garden Room. The entire building is covered with gorgeous Christmas decorations and various antiques (even an Edison phonograph!) Our hosts were friendly and gracious, (thank you Gretchen and Keith!), the stay was quiet, and the rooms were as impeccable as they were quaint. I've never seen a house so lovingly cared for, and it was apparent in every room. Their decorations do a brilliant job of creating a vintage look matching the feel of the house without making the place feel like a museum, and the rooms seem fully modernised with heat and electrical outlets, despite their antique furnishings. It was a perfect stay in a spacious house with kind people, and if my girlfriend and I are ever spending time in the Cornish area again, we will certainly be back! Five stars all around.

The Rugosa

The Rugosa, historically known as “The Penny House Inn” is a gorgeous, 10 room guest house with a beautiful, private back yard, gardens, a sunny patio seating area and a separate cottage with a fully handicapped accessible family suite. Entirely redecorated, this traditional, antique New England home has been transformed with colorful paintings, folk art, found objects and houseplants! Visitors of the Rugosa are welcome to enjoy the spacious backyard and patio area, lounge in the great room, utilize the dining room for nights where you just want to escape the crowds and stay in, or join us in Chuck’s Lounge with our newly renovated bar. We are offering complimentary coffee and tea, but hope to be able to offer other breakfast options again in the future. With many great restaurants and cafes in the area, guests may choose to eat out or enjoy take-out in our public dining room or outdoor patio. Guests are often pleased with the location of the Rugosa, as it is near many loved attractions such as Nauset Lighthouse, Marconi Beach, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, the National Seashore, many gourmet restaurants and shopping. We are proud to be a pet-friendly property! We are a house full of animal lovers and understand how special it is to be able to bring your pet along. We can accommodate visitors with well trained and well mannered dogs. We are located along busy Route 6, so we request that dogs be kept on a leash at all times while outside. Inside the house, dogs may have free-range, but we ask that you keep dogs crated if you plan to leave them in the guest rooms. Additional fees may apply.

Horrible experience

The site makes it seem like it's in a picturesque country setting when in fact it is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I included one of the views below. I was traveling alone as a younger female and instead of trying to make me feel comfortable the owner was nasty and snarky to me. He was also very creepy and inappropriate and I kept myself locked in my room the entire time I was in the hotel because I did not feel safe with him around. The decor was country, and not in a good way, kind of like the owner. This has been the worst hotel stay I have had and I won't be back.

Nice hotel. Everything is new and modern. The room is of decent size although the top floor is hit by heavy wind and at night it sounds like a plane takeoff. Good bed. The breakfast was covid-style but acceptable. Parking is tight as there a couple of hotels competing for the parking spots but they say you can park on the street.
