This restaurant was a refreshing and delicious stop in our road trip around California. The food was innovative and tasty. We had a selection of small plates which were reduced for happy hour including the coconut shrimp rolls, cerviche, calamari, sashimi, edamame and bacon and jalapeño mac n cheese. The Lilikoi margarita was also tasty and delightfully part of the happy hour deal. However the icing on the literal cake was the coconut cake desert which was amazing albeit a little expensive for a piece of cake.

Ate here on a vacation in Monterey. We enjoyed it.Interesting space, as the restaurant is long and narrow. Well-appointed interior.Service was very good.Prices are reasonable. Food is good.Among the standouts:grilled corn saladfried oysters with kimchee (kimchee was house-made, and not at all like the stuff you get in a jar at Safeway -- very good)squidspicy fish stew (I asked the server, and this was more of a soup than a stew. The spiciness was mild.)Arctic charhalibutrockfishWe didn't have room for dessert because we ordered the buttermilk biscuits. They were so good that we ordered more! We'd definitely eat here again if we go back to Monterey.

Started with bowl of clam chowder which was really good. Then had bbq oysters which I thought would be grillef with bbq sauce, but was grilled with butter garlic. Still lots of garlic and enjoyable. Ordered the crab cakes which was a bit disappointing as not much crab taste and no chunks of crab. Just some shredded crab meat. Came with tasty french fries. Wife ordered fish and chips subbing vegetables for chips. The cod fish was light and delicate and crispy. Over all a nice meal and reasonable price. Just wish the crab cakes were better and with more flavor

Founds this little place in Carmel as we were walking back from watching the sunset y the beach. it was one of the few busy place around with is often a good sign, they have 2 sections, once more of a sit down white cloth table restaurants and one is more pub-like. We opted for the latter. we ordered a 16 oysters to start and we ended up getting 20 in our plates! a good start! we then had the Calamari steak that was also very pleasant. enjoyed some local beer and we were the last patrons to leave (we were invited to stay as long as we wanted and never felt pushed!)great meal! great little place!

We eat at the restaurant every year or two when we visit Carmel. The food is always very good and the service is great. They are dog friendly have have nice patio seating behind the restaurant which actually results in a very private dinner atmosphere. The wine list is very good and the food selections are always very, very good. We'll return next time we are in town.

Frankly, other than the beach--which is a great beach--the small city of Carmel is awful. Stuffed with art galleries of bland, over-priced work no one with any taste will ever buy, block after block of boring architecture, and almost nowhere reasonable to eat. As such, A.W.Shucks was a real find (recommended by a local shopkeeper when we were about to give up searching for spot where we could relax and eat dinner). It's a typical American bar; dark, plush, sports on TV, and generally tasteless beer. But the waitress was friendly and the food (we ate fish, meat and vegetarian dishes) was very tasty. So, if you have to stop at Carmel, stop here.

What a great find this place is. Been around for almost 3 decades and although I’m a regular visitor to Carmel, I love it here. Wonderful wonton chips and amazing salsa. Perfectly cooked calamari then the best part, the almond crusted bass. Quite possibly one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. There are many restaurants in Carmel, but you must come here. Proper old school service too.
