Coffee Bothy

This place is in the center of the little village of Golspie. The highway runs through Golspie, and there is a public parking lot just off the center, near the fish-and-chip place. At the side of the little parking-lot is this little wooden-tables café, which is obviously popular with the older locals. The place was full, but the service was quick. There are sandwiches and hot food, but we were just passing through, so we had the Victoria sponge cake, which was very good.

Award winning Highland restaurant serving local ingredients in contemporary dishes. Organic wines, North Highland whiskies and Cairngorm beers, unpretentious food and a true Highland welcome. Booking always recommended!

Our b&b owners recommend this place to us and they were not wrong. Great local ingredients and superb flavours. If I was being super picky , my venison could have been a tiny bit warmer but as it needed to be served medium rare I can understand why it wasn't piping hot. This is not enough to make give it less than five stars. Two great tasting three course meals that were also very reasonably priced. Glad we made the drive from Dornoch.

My wife and I were on holiday and decided to try this place. It was my wife's birthday and our last night of the holiday. Couldn't have picked a nicer place. What a gem. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Wine from practically any bottle could be ordered by the glass.
The food was lovely. The calamari in tempura was cooked to perfection as it wasn't in the least but chewy. The scallops, prawns and chorizo linguine was the best I've tasted and they certainly didn't skimp on the seafood as some places do. The staff were attentive without being over bearing.

We have been visiting Dornoch for golf and walking for the last 5 years and always make a point of going here. Margaret is a great hostess and the food is always reliable. Would recommend the haggis Benbraggie and the Chicken Glenmorangie. Will be back next year.

Looking for overnight accommodation in Tain itself, The Royal Hotel was warm, comfortable, with clean well equipped and soundproofed rooms, and a warm welcome. There have been variable reports on the evening meal, but full English breakfast was just fine with an individually cooked meal, and limitless coffee.

First visit since new owners took over and very disappointed. Soup clearly made from a mix not from fresh ingredients, cheese scone had sugar in it(?????) and the selection of cakes gone from hero to zero!!!!
Nothing like it used to be and when the chef appeared from the kitchen wearing disgusting jeans & tshirt to sort out a wrong order that capped it.
Sorry ,used to be a regular stop of ours but not any more.

Bengal Cuisine

Visited for Sunday evening buffet. Most starters and main courses (even rice) was tepid at best. Given many of the dishes are chicken based this raises health concerns. Not impressed. Tikka chicken for starter was cold to the touch. Starter issue was addressed when I complained and they went to the kitchen and returned with hot food. I sampled five different main courses and they were all lukewarm. By this time I had lost my appetite so didn't complain further until the end of the meal. I didn't fancy having my plate whisked off to the microwave in any case. No apology or offer to reduce bill after further complaint. Certainly gone downhill compared to previous visits. Won't be back any time soon.

Return visit to Lairg after a thirty year break (for one of us anyway).
Food in Scotland (as elsewhere in the UK) can vary enormously but this really was a brilliant place.
It's sandwiches, cakes, burgers, soup with the odd blackboard special - all really well done.
Really excellent ploughman's (3 cheeses, proper ham, pickles etc). Good quality chicken coronation Sandwich.
Locals clearly love it because it's probably one of the better places for miles. Homemade ice creams, great-looking cheesecakes.
4 stars because would've liked just a few more options for lunch rather than a burger or sandwiches but it is excellent. Nice side salads, coleslaw. Lovely view with tables outside for summer.

A delicious meal, interspersed with various tasters and appetisers, which were all beautifully presented. A first class meal, with many highlights, a glorious outlook and attentive service. A great experience which we'd heartily recommend.
