Treo Bar Cafe

Reviewed By Parrotlady1972 - Colchester, United Kingdom

A party of eight for a Saturday night birthday came to Treo's, we were seated upstairs.
Drinks were ordered and came fairly quickly. The meals were ordered straight after, the starters came within a decent time scale, along with the kids meal. ( good idea when little ones are hungry)
The main meals came out pretty quickly after the starters were cleared, very good considering the place was packed out.
You get a lovely large portion, very fresh and tasty salad. Myself I chose a lasagne , chips and salad. Very hot unlike some places you visit.
Everyone was very happy with their meals.
After our meals we had a birthday cake brought out that we had taken in ourselves. Four of us ordered desserts aswell.
It's was my first visit but definitely will return again.
Fairly priced, decent friendly service and gentle music in background.
My only gripe was it was hot one minute and cold next if the air conditioning got switched on. It's quite hard to find a happy medium as the ceilings are low, when the air conditioning is on it tends to blow in your face. Staff were fine with turning it on or off as people asked.

Loved having a round table. The waitress was lovely, friendly and efficient.
The scotch eggs with black pudding went down well. The roast lamb was tasty but looked like it came pre sliced rather than cooked on the premises. However it was an enjoyable plate of food. The fish pie was excellent as was the hake. The rib eye steak was quite tender and although one of the party said the chicken was good, it looked a little dry and in need of a sauce.
The desserts were pretty good apart from the poached pear which was not tender enough.
Overall a very enjoyable evening.

This place had been recommended so we tried to pop in for lunch on a Saturday at about 1pm. Completely full at this time but had a wander (try the Adnam's store) and an hour later we got a table.
The "large" Mezze sharing platter didn't quite stretch to ensure all four of us each got a little bit of something but what we did have was lovely. I especially enjoyed their hummus. The arrival of our pizzas rectified any remaining rumbling tummies. Two vegetarian and two special (the Imposter) pizzas arrived piping hot on lovely thin bases. Delicious.
Ironically we were then too full for dessert.
Great location, great building and lovely staff.

We had dinner here and I would like to share some impressions.
A clean , modern restaurant with neutral decorations , maybe a bit more of Indian culture touch would be nice. But we came here for a birthday celebration and we tried different starters and main dishes.
Main dish, Tandoori king prawns were a real disappointment, I ate so much better of the kind from a small online take away restaurant in Felixstowe, would not mention the name as it would not be fair. But these king prawns had NO taste of tandoori, colour was light pink rather than dark red and the king prawns probably only cooked and then put on a sizzling pan right before being served, no bite, just soft with no taste...I would very much recommend that the cook would taste other tandoori in town to learn , would be of benefit for the restaurant.
Bombay potatoes were tasty enough and fresh , and so was a general impression that the food was fresh but lacked spice and even salt.
The saag paneer , spinach with cheese, had far too much sugar in it and an overpowering taste of butter.
And actually we made a joke that we do not need any dessert as we already had too much sugar from the different dishes and sauces.
The pickled figs kind of sauce brought with the papadums had a horrible taste. Sorry, just have no other word for that.
The tandoori mixed grill masala had very little meat in a tone of thick sauce. Just another mediocre dish with no taste of tandoori.
The service was friendly.

We went at lunch time after Christmas and the pub was not busy. The waitress did not smile and sadly our food was not very good. The fish and chips was the best meal, the macaroni cheese was swimming in oil and the duck and cucumber spaghetti was horrible. When the waitress came over we told her about the macaroni and she just said sorry. It was a shame as we have been before.
