Top 10 Ranches in Virginia, United States

April 19, 2023 Yuk Petri

Virginia can make American history come alive. Visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, tour Civil War battlefields, explore the living history museum at Williamsburg… the possibilities are endless (if the kids object, break up the historical sightseeing with a visit to Busch Gardens). Arlington, site of Arlington National Cemetery, is just across the Potomac River from all the major sites in D.C. In addition to beaches and historical attractions, Virginia has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Active families will love the Blue Ridge Highlands, where hiking, canoeing and tubing are just a few of the activities offered. Couples might enjoy a romantic mountain cabin in Virginia after a day of hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

Beautiful Wedding Location and Rustic Retreat!

Reviewed By F4699WAannef

Our son and daughter in law recently hosted their wedding at Montfair. The staff were brilliant, helpful and hard working. The setting was beautiful - through rain, wind, clouds and sunshine. The cabins were comfortable, clean and perfect for families and friends to share coffee on the porches, host communal breakfasts, and relax alone. This could not be a more perfect site for an elegant, relaxed, family-focused event. It's also great for a solo visit which we did last year - peaceful, easy access to Charlottesville and surrounding sites.

A beautiful pit stop

Reviewed By SGDoc

My family and I stayed the night in the Log Home as a pit stop from our drive from FL to NY. We traveled with out infant and dog. We were so happy when we arrived at the property. The cabin was very impressive… historic yet with modern amenities. The property is beautiful and we felt peaceful after a long drive. The cabin was outfitted with a coffee maker and some coffee, along with plates and silverware in the full kitchen. The beds were very comfortable and the place was very clean. On the way back to FL, we decided to make a stop again instead of driving further. We stayed at the Tobacco Barn which was smaller, but equally as impressive. It was great to have accommodations that met our needs in the road, to include our dog. This was a lovely respite and we only wish that we had more time to enjoy it!

Wonderful trail ride!

We took a half-day trail ride with Dwight this past March. It was a great experience—Dwight matched us to horses based on our experience and we had such fun out in the woods and seeing beautiful views. Dwight really takes the time to ensure you have a good ride, taking into account your riding level as well. We appreciate it and cannot recommend it more!

Cute mountain winery

Reviewed By whiskeygirl7794

This place is very cute but it looks like a house too so it can get very confusing. Try to watch for the signs on the gravel road you are on. It was a very quiet small setting. Great landscaping and somewhere nice to sit and have some wine. The wines they have are pretty good. I liked them a lot and I even bought a bottle. However, 3 of their wines were out and we were still charged for a full tasting. More importantly they were award winning ones. They should try and consider the price of the tasting and how much is going to be tasted

Charming Cabin

Reviewed By PandK90

Loved our stay at here!! We were greeted by our friendly hosts, Jim and Bonny. We were given a tour and explanation of the amenities. They assured us our stay would be peaceful and uninterrupted. And it was. The cabin,(great for a couple or small family) is very tastefully furnished and decorated. We enjoyed the porch swing a lot while listening to the frogs and the breeze in the trees and the nearby stream running over the rocks. They provide all the things you need inside and out. There is a gas grill, patio furniture, hammock, and a chimenea for a fire. Plus a seesaw and a tire swing for kids, and adirondack chairs closer to the stream. No TV here, but who needs one? A short trip to nearby towns and not far from the Blue Ridge Mtns. Want be be unplugged for awhile? This is the place to stay. You will love the remote beauty and serenity!!

We stayed at Shadow Mountain Escape for two nights for our wedding. Everything was more than you could imagine or hope for. The personal touches of goodies in the room when you arrive, Karen and Ralph’s presence around the property, the property and cabins, it was just amazing! Karen and Ralph almost make you feel like a guest in their own home, they’re so personable! Our wedding ceremony was by the stream with pictures all around the property. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding weekend or a more perfect place to have it!
