Top 10 Pub food in Vancouver, Washington, United States

January 31, 2020 Jasper Kershner

Reviews on Pub food in Vancouver, Washington, United States. Steeped in history, Vancouver is the oldest city in Washington. Once the largest western outpost of the British Hudson's Bay Company, where supplies and food were bartered in the 1800s, it was closed in 1860 as Americans took over commerce. The outpost was later recreated as the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. For more history, check out the Pearson Air Field, the oldest operating airfield in the West, where vintage aircraft are displayed at the Pearson Air Museum. If adventure is your bag, Vancouver is the perfect base for day trips to the Columbia River Gorge, the breathtakingly beautiful 70-mile river stretch that cuts through the Cascade Mountains, or Mount St. Helens, the site of the famous volcano, both of which offer a slew of outdoor activities. For calmer pastimes, cruise the picturesque river in the Columbia Gorge riverboat, or visit Beacon Rock, the world's second largest monolith, where a walking trail leads to spectacular panoramic views.

Old Ivy Brewery & Taproom

It was a very hot Saturday and I was walking around exploring downtown Vancouver when I spotted the sidewalk sign. I saw the ivy area and the outdoor patio and it looked like a nice place to go and relax. So into the building I went. Glanced a round and was greeted by a very friendly charming bartender. So I sat down ordered a pint and chatted with him about the downtown area and some of the old buildings it has. He pointed out the brick building across the street as being an excellent example of OLD Vancouver. What caught my eye on the beer list was Ridiculous Red Ale. Cost about $5.40 a pint and was very good. The room had a nice atmosphere with plenty of taps on display. Some nice retro pictures on the wall. And of course the patio.Yeah, a very friendly, relaxed, laid back place to have a drink. I will drop in a gain when I am exploring out this way again.

Ok, walked here from our hotel. It's midnight sonit too many places open. Stopped hete, great draft beer selection.Bar menu. I was in the mood for wings. Took bartender's recommendation and got spicy BBQ. Wings typical sports bar wings. Maybe cause I'm gettin old, but man was it loud in here! I get music, but this wasn't a disco with a dance floor, it's a sports bar. Would have gone elsewhere but really no choice. I liked our bartender, she was great.

Continuing our brewpub tour, we stopped for late lunch on our way home to Portland metro. I went with the peanut butter/bacon burger & fries. That was a new taste treat for me. The burger was smaller than expected, but filling. Spouse had smoked out chicken sandwich. Their beer flight is $1.50 per glass so we paid $10.50 for seven which was quite reasonable. The RIP porter, Dubghal stout, Transcend & Transgression IPAs and the other three were balanced and easy to drink. We liked the mix of patrons' ages--old, young and in between. Didn't see any kids though, so don't know if that's typical or if they are family friendly. We were there on a Sunday afternoon. Prices snd food for a brew pub are about average but I'll add another star for the fine brews.

When you take in hand the view, the location, the nice ambience, you'd think, "Here's sure winner!" Unfortunately, it's just average right now. Stopped in for a bite and a drink. One table open and not cleared so we grabbed it. Waited for awhile and someone finally cleared it. We then ordered a bottle of the house red, a disappointing screw top effort that was sad given Maryhill provisions were one door down. Waitress brought the wrong bottle of wine, then the right bottle, then poured our wine and walked off with the bottle! We got that bottle back. Ordered the prosciutto and fig flatbread. Very disappointing. Tasted like it came from a Sysco heat and reheat selection. Salads were generous but nothing great. This place has gotta find it's passion in the midst of all the beauty! You give it a try but we're not gonna go again for awhile.

Second time here...wonderful rotating tap selection, limited but good food menu (they make every thing from scratch), lovely staff. Plenty of TVs for football, nice atmosphere. Handicapped accessible. You place your order at the bar, they deliver food to your table. Shout out to Tim for being so compassionately accommodating to a wheelchair user. Enjoy watching the Hawks in this fun and inviting place! Looking forward to next time!

Amaro's Table

Reviewed By KLE_Woodland

We met Sara, the beverage director. I'm a wine retailer, and she and I talked shop about the wines on her list. One thing I love is the wide variety of grapes chosen. And the individual labels are, for the most part, excellent choices. I've never seen Flama d'Or Spanish Cava show so well as tonight, and the Two Mountain 2018 Rose (Yakima) was fabulous. Wine prices are a great deal, too-glass pours are mostly $8-$10, which is reasonable (and the sparkling pours are near the brim), and bottle prices are even more reasonable, such as $21 for a bottle from which glass pours cost $8. Corkage is only $10, which is GREAT, but the restaurant's wine prices are good enough you may not want to take your own.Caitlin worked our table and she was really great. it took awhile deciding on what to order because so many of their dishes sounded so great. The food was great. Admittedly we were coming off three days E of Dufur OR at a big art festival in the boondocks, but the food at Amaro's was great. My wife's tuna sushi rolls were amazing (impressive that a "regular" restaurant can do sushi that well, with melt-in-your-mouth tuna), and I had them bring out a bowl of their great siracha-herb-aeoli (which normally comes with the calamari) which amped up that experience. My beet salad was great-it hit all the right buttons, and the chevre in it was like little puffed white cheesey pastry. My spouse had the salmon salad nicoise, which was teriffic, and I had the beef tenderloin dinner salad, which was really great--the meat pieces were melt in your mouth tender and the salad veggies and dressing were wonderful. And it was filling but you weren't eating huge slabs of red meat, which felt good. That salad had some brown rice in it, which was great-brown rice is slower to digest than white rice, and thus is better for everybody's blood sugar. We laid on a 35% tip because it felt like the right thing to do. This is a wonderful place for downtown Vancouver, and if you don't live here yet (yes, Portlanders, I'm talking to you), why not? ;) La Bottega and a few other Vancouver restaurants are also really great. the living is great here!

Googled the menu, so came in for a great cocktail and fried chicken. Busy cocktail bar, got seats at the long bar. Very friendly group enjoying drinks, everyone is chatting and laughing. Sweet golden retriever was hanging out, too, enjoying head rubs from all.Bartender got our drink order and we ordered the fried chicken dinners, she said it usually takes about 30 minutes. Cool.We watched what looked like great food coming out of the kitchen, sandwiches, salads, mac n cheese.Dinner is served in 25 minutes, the jo jos are crispy and fluffy, the chicken has a nice crunch with a subtle spice. Biscuit is homemade and yummy. We'll be back!We just moved over the bridge from Portland and are out exploring the food offerings in our new neighborhood. So far Vancouver has been great to us. Thank you to all the wonderful people who have welcomed us to town.

Delivers solid and reliable food and service. Unique mixed drinks, good beer and wine options. Food is creative and generally tasty. Sometimes they have off days and food I generally love doesn't quite hit the mark. This place is tucked away and not everyone is familiar with it, but it's one of my go to spots. Has outdoor seating when its bearable and live music at times too. Generally can't go wrong stopping here. Oh, and good happy hour!
