Highly recommended if you visit Takayama

We loved Takayama Green Hotel. We stayed 2 nights to visit Takayama and Shirakawago. The hotel is beautiful and big, wonderful to walk around. We stayed in the new wing, Orinkaku. Very nice! Beautiful and modern. The room was super comfortable. Dinner for both nights was Japanese style. Loved it! We can view their beautiful Japanese garden. You can also sit in the lounge and enjoy that garden. The breakfast was buffet in the modern wing. Very nice place and great buffet. The onsen must be the best in town. They have indoors and outdoors, sauna, and bubble style baths. Really spacious and awesome onsen. We came during Golden Week so the place was full, however we never felt the hotel to be crowded. They absorb their guests very well. Plenty of parking. Nice, friendly service throughout. Check in and out were super smooth. One thing was missing, a game room for the kids. We highly recommend Takayama Green Hotel.

Disappointing

Reviewed By Thibault L

On the positive side, the location is good for who wants to explore Kamakochi, the rooms are spacious with a private onsen. On the negative side, the facilities are outdated and not conform at all with the pictures. The hotel as not been renovated for probably 20 years or more! Food for diner and breakfast is disappointing. The staff had trouble dealing with a buffet for all rooms. Plates were often empty and we had to wait. All in all, quite expensive for what it is. Would not recommend.

This hotel is only 2 years old. Wonderful Japanese rooms without having to sleep on a futon. Attention to detail in all furnishings. Great onsen. Good food. Awesome service. Very clean. No recent reviews of this place due to covid but it is as good as other reviewers say and definitely the best place to stay around here. In fact even without the UNESCO site nearby it’s almost worth coming just for the hotel.

Terrible service

Reviewed By ho c

It was a few years back that we stayed here for a night in December. Still can remember how rude the staffs were. We were driving from the north to the hotel and because it was snowing, traffic was a bit slower than what we have expected. We finally arrived hotel 30 mins later than what we have mentioned in the booking, the lady who checked us in, after acknowledging our booking already put on a long face. We understand that being punctual is very important in Japan and we quickly apologised for our late arrival. The lady after hearing our apology just threw out some cool words: yes, and we did called your phones a few times. At this point we just realized that we forgot to change the SIM card with the no.that the hotel had called. We immediately apologised again, however, the check in lady didn't show any more pleasant face. During the stay was generally okay and the food was average. We booked a room with private onzen but the onzen in the balcony is lack of privacy. People down in the carpark can easily see the bath. I cannot say the staffs were welcoming, hardly saw a smiling face on them. What made it an even more terrible experience was the time we checked out. We were at the room arranging our luggages and we had to drive straight to the airport later. It was a 5 mins late than the announced check out time, the phone rang and the staff in the phone was rushing us to go. We told them we need little more time and were coming soon. However another 5 mins later when we were about to step out of our room, the phone rang again and the staff reminded us the check out time! Come on, it's only a 10 mins time and what could have been done if we left 10 mins earlier? Will you treat your guests in this manner? Of course when we went down, the front desk staff was not welcoming as usual, put on his long face and was annoyed when we were deciding which card to be charged. It was a totally upset experience in this hotel, we don't know what happened to these staffs to make them put on long faces. We love Japan and we have stayed in many different kinds of accommodation in Japan, from B &B to luxury hotels. But never in our experience that we were treated like this. It really ruin our trip that we had met so many kind people.

A Highland Hotel With Great Onsen

Reviewed By AnthonySteven

This is a kind of hotel with great view as it is located at the highland! And in front of the hotel, there were quite a few of Sakura Trees that offered us another brilliant view especially during the morning hours when sunlight was out to warm the Spring mornings. On top of that, this hotel has a very good onsen! I shall say this onsen is comparable with the one we had in Shirakawago No Yu Hotel a few years ago for which both shared cold and warm water to indulge you to the fullest, and of course, both were offered with outer view which was so good. (this trip was done on April 2017)
