Got a great lunch on an afternoon stop in between visits to Colorado National Park on our way to the Black Canyon National Park. Food was very delicious...we both enjoyed our servings...it was the right amount. Price was extremely cheap and service quick. We (wife and myself) were pleasantly surprised and would recommend this place to anyone visiting the Montrose area.

Chili's

We hadn't been in one of these since our first visit nearly 20 years ago in some other town. The atmosphere is somewhere between McDonalds and Denny's and the prices quite a bit higher than either. At 4pm the music was blaring and annoying enough that we asked if they could turn it down a bit. They did, but the volume was upped again, to just below blaring, about 15 minutes later. The server was superb and the food was very good, but it all felt overprice by about 10 to 15 percent. Also, we are not fans of the table top order-your-own-food-and-run-your-own-credit-card devices also found in other establishments like Applebee's. Easy targets for card scammers, and, it somewhat takes the server out of the service process. Maybe we are just old school. The place was fairly clean, with only minor food on the floor and only a few crumbs fell out of the small brown paper bag they give you your silverware and straw in ... hey, at least they will still give you a straw ... until the straw Nazis get to them. Will we go back? Probably not.

I hadn't been to Qdoba in a while but I'm glad I stopped in. They have a delicious selection of tacos served on a tray with something that stands up the tacos. Plus they are labeled with little stickers so you know which one you are eating. There is also a delicious mango salsa to try. And the fajita vegetables are the right blend of smoky and sautéed. There is one of those drink machines that you can use to mix whatever sodas you want. I heard someone say 145 options! Service was friendly and fast. Check them out!

In Montrose among the big box stores and noticed this place while we were shopping for supplies for our week of camping. Mexican is our favorite cuisine. They offer a buffet but we ordered off the menu. Service was slow but friendly. I ordered the taco, 2 enchilada combo plate which was just okay, rice and beans were very bland. We had a nice booth and it had a variety of seating arrangements and TVs on the wall with sports channels. Good food but not worth a trip.

I love Amelia’s, first of all for the historic location in the basement of a very old building near the railroad tracks, in which brick walls and other original beams & features have been preserved. There is a very warm & intimate feel and it’s just out of the ordinary. Secondly, I love Amelia’s for the authentic and great dishes they serve at reasonable prices. This is definitely one of my personal favorites in Montrose!

Don Jilberto Mexican Restaurant

For a town with so many Latino people, it's surprising how feeble so much of the "Mexican" food is there. I put Mexican in parentheses because our neighbors to the south have a highly diverse, fantastic assortment of traditional recipes, depending on where in the country you travel. But this culinary treasure is rarely seen north of the border. Perhaps it's too hard to get authentic ingredients up here. With that context in mind, I have to give Don Gilbertos high marks. The staff are quite friendly, the decor is colorful and fresh, and the food is worth the stop. They have delicious salsa (2 kinds)(this is always a good sign), and the menu has everything we would hope to find. Suffice to say, if you want quality meals in this tradition, Don Gilberto is the place to go.

Didn’t feel like cooking, so Mexican sounded good. Off to one of the 3 best Mexican restaurants in town, they have the best margaritas in town. I had the combo Chile relleno and chicken chimichanga. Relleno with pablano paper slightly spicy and loaded with melted cheese, outstanding!! Chicken in the chimi was cooked perfectly flavorfull and moist. Great meal and service.
