Dedicated to my cuz "NotYourAvgJay": Whenever I have out of town visitors (mostly east coast ones) to Cali, they always ask to pass by "Any kind of Bertos". Whether it be Albertacos, Rigobertos, Donbertos, Albertos; there's got to be a Bertos late night run. And no, it doesn't matter that it reeks like pinesol and cleaning detergent while you order. We still eat here... no matter what.We commonly order the infamous sweating carne asada burrito (it leaks with sweaty juice) with pico de gallo, carnitas burrito with guacamole and cheese no rice, shrimp burrito, or two shredded beef burritos (it's a raw chimicanga, and yes I eat two). Once in a while, I'll get a very sweaty oily heart clogging quesadilla (3 stars because they try to kill you with all that oil). Sometimes, we add a side half order of monster fries and an horchata. What makes these burritos special is the special "fresh" extra large tortilla they use (the ends are the best part), along with the red or green sauce you pour into the burrito while eating it.It's the perfect meal after a night of drunkeness to help sober you up, or a good meal in general to satisfy the late night fatty in you before going to bed.

They have a lot on their menu so I opted for one of their popular specialties the Oven Burrito. I ordered the Chili Verde burrito with an Horchata, this is what I usually order at all the Mexican restaurants so I can always compare the quality of each one. The plate came with the burrito, beans, rice, and a basket full of house made chips. I requested the hottest chili and the lady brought me two different types, stating the green one is usually hot and this one in the red bottle is sometimes hot. I was confused because why wouldn't she know which one burns the hell out of your mouth. The end result the food was okay, kind of Americanized to me, and the chili not being hot at all, which disappointed me.

The food was great here. My co-workers all had different tacos and loved them. I had the chilaquiles roja, and it tasted great, but it was long on tortilla strips and short on eggs. Their salsa bar had great, traditional options - excellent avocado salsa and pickled carrots. Light refried beans. They make their own hot sauce, which you can buy for $3. I'd go back for sure to try more items if I lived in the area! Not super cheap, but worth the price. The dining room was cluttered - racks of supplies against the wall right behind a table, a chip station along a narrow ledge, and little computer-printed signs pasted on pretty much every surface. There was just a lot going on, and there were several flies in the dining room, which I imagine are flying around in the open kitchen, too. Overall decently clean - just cluttery.

I have purchased food here a few times over the last few months. The food is typical Taco Bell. They have been a little understaffed, but the staff tries very hard to accommodate the customers.

Our family has been coming for over 25 years! Chips & salsa have just the right amount of spice. Great tacos, seafood enchiladas, my favorite burritos, all meat or combos are all very tasty. Full bar with excellent margaritas! To finish off, the home made cinnamon chips are just wonderful. Real waiters, Nice surroundings. Very reasonably priced.

Arturo's Puffy Taco

Reviewed By callmemochelle

A week ago, I tweeted I was craving "Gringo" style tacos for Taco Tuesday. One of my followers asked if I ever tried Arturo's Puffy Taco (or simply Puffy Taco) in Whittier. I replied that I had not, and was going to save it for the next "taco Tuesday". Tuesday could not come fast enough. Last Saturday, I was in nearby La Habra dropping off my dog to the groomer, and this place was only 10 minutes away. It was early (10:00 am) but never too early for a taco!We arrived about 10:15, and the place was still dormant. One sign said "open" and the sign at the dining room said "closed". We walked up and they were open, and since it wasn't busy the guy (I think it's Arturo?) chatted us up about the food, and what's popular. The family is originally from San Antonio, Texas, and he brought the family recipe over to start this restaurant. The ground beef (or the original Puffy) is the most popular, and partially because it's cheaper than the other tacos. It has ground beef, potato, green chilies and other spices, topped with shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese and taco salsa. We ordered the original Puffy, and the other 4 Puffy tacos: Chicken, Carnitas (pork), Asada (steak), and the Carne Guizada, which is like a beef stew. Unlike the other meats, which is served dry this one is gravy like. Of the 5 tacos, the Guizada was my favorite, which I could have eaten 5 of those just by myself. The prices are not dirt cheap, but runs about $2.60 a per taco on the average. $18 for 5 tacos and 2 medium drinks. They're messy, and yes, they are puffy. You can't let the tacos sit too long or they will get soggy, and you will need the fork to scoop up the ingredients that falls out of the puffy shell. The restaurant also serves puffy tostadas and other "Tex-Mex" favorites. No free drink refills here, so go large, or expect to pay up to 75 cents for a refill. OH, and it's Cash Only. If you forget cash, there's an ATM in the dining room. I heard this place gets busy crowded, so get here early.

The Green Chile

Reviewed By 3678JOHN

We were looking for a restaurant that we had not tried before and that was close by - so went to Trip Advisor. Found some good reviews for The Green Chile so off we went for breakfast.Nice thing we noticed first was their friendly staff. After that it went down hill.1 - Service was slow even though there where just a few people in the place. Since it was our first time there, we took our time looking over the menu. Then the friendly staff took their time getting our food. My order came with home made flour tortillas. Got them after I reminded the server we had not received them. She brought them over - cold and hard. Neither my wife or I liked our potatoes - some cooked, others hardly cooked.2 - We are big coffee drinkers, but it was hard to get refills. They kept forgetting. Had to keep flagging someone down each time we needed a refill.3 - I ordered a simple 2 eggs over easy, potatoes, sausage, beans and hand made flour tortillas. Figured this was our first time, so lets keep it simple. Not all the potatoes cooked, beans cold and the tortillas cold and hard.We will return for a second round in a few months, we always give a new place time to get settled in and learn and improve, but it will not be in the next 6 months. We'll wait till next year.Oh well, they can't all be good.Hope this helps.

We have gone here a few times. We like their nachos and they make them to order. You can add whatever meat you wish of the types they have available, you can add guacamole, beans (they have a couple of types), lettuce, cheese, and other toppings as well as chilies. The tastes are great. Sometimes there are long lines, but it's worth the wait.
