Top 10 Lodges in Northern Norway, Norway

April 29, 2023 Janette Largent

Home to both the midnight sun (with constant daylight from April to July) and the northern lights, North Norway is a rugged land of steep mountains, deep fjords and scenic coastline, making it a great place for outdoor adventures like dog sledding, snowmobiling and wildlife safaris. It's also the ancient home of the Sami people, 3,000 of whom live (along with 100,000 reindeer) at Kautokeino, Norway's largest municipality at over 3,700 square miles.

Had a fantastic stay at Hattvika Lodge, we booked the Myklebustbua #4 which sits on the edge of the Dock offering a nice view. Kristian and his wife Guri we're excellent in recommending things to do and ensuring we have everything we need! I must recommend the Kayak experience, was a big highlight given the perfect weather and the person which took us (sorry i dont remember his name) was fun and helpful to have around. We also highly appreciated being given the hottub all day free of charge, thank you Kristian!

Lydersen Rorbuer og Sjohus

Lydersen Rorbuer is part of the living, breathing fishing village of Fredvang on the Moskenes island in the Lofoten municipality of Flakstad. It offers accommodation with shared kitchen facilities and bathrooms, as well as apartments with private kitchen and bathroom facilities. All kitchens are fully equipped with fridge, cooker and all necessary crockery and utensils, as well as eating area. The apartments also have seating areas for relaxation, and all have views across the Fredvang quay. The bedrooms have between 2-4 beds, while the apartments have 3-6 beds spread across multiple bedrooms in each apartment. Hi speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the facilities. Parking is free and dogs are welcome in some apartments. Lydersen´s proximity to the sea makes it a cosy and friendly spot, where a cup of coffee on the quay-side can be enjoyed while taking in the fishing boats that pass on the water regularly amongst the spectacular Lofoten mountains.

An enjoyable stay

Reviewed By Roving310510

We had a great time staying here but please remember that this is basic accommodation- this review assumes that one is not expecting a four star hotel! So it’s a clean, friendly, laid-back place on the fjord. In season thee is a bar and pizza restaurant. Since it was off-season and we had no car the owner took us to Ramberg where we enjoyed an exec fish and chip dinner. The place is under new management and the token system for showers has gone. The showers are warm and refreshing (shared bathrooms). The beds were comfortable and the kitchen very useful. This is a lovely place and good value for Norway.

The ideal holiday accommodation

Reviewed By Traductora

We spent 4 nights in the suite here. The suite has a twin bedroom and a loft room with two king-sized beds. There is a bathroom, and a kitchen with a fridge, hob and a microwave. There are ovens in the communal facilities downstairs, as well as freezers. We immediately felt at home here, and were very comfortable. Check-in was contactless, and because of that it took us a few days to realize that we were supposed to use the front door to the building, and to leave our shoes there, instead of using the door to the left of the main entrance. The whole building had a very clean and crisp style. It is also perfectly located away from the road, but just a few minutes walk to two supermarkets and a museum. Walking to Å takes about 30 minutes, and Reine is only a 10-minute drive away. There are also several nice hikes in this area. Even though this place is located towards the southern end of Lofoten, you'd be hard pressed to find better accommodation for a holiday in Lofoten.

Celebrating my 40 year old wife

Taking my parents and wife out in to the wilderness to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Going to the beautiful Alta and up to Trasti and Trine out in the wilderness, at least it felt a bit like wilderness. This fantastic place with cabins, dogs and small buildings like henhouse and greenhouse. The warmth of the people and the surroundings of the nature is just giving peace in mind. Sitting in a cabin with windows in every direction and watching the northern lights dance above you, enjoying food made of chefs with pride and curiosity was just amazing. I want to recommend this place to anybody, the dog sledding, the food, the people, the place, you’ll get the fine dining and hands on experiences in activities, in the beautiful nature of Alta. This place they have made, is a place for couples, for families, for people travelling alone, this place will give everyone a good feeling. All I want to say is, go there, stay there, explore!??

Luxury weekend with friends

We rented the fishing huts right next to the doc. All of them where brand new and where decorated in different styles. There where plenty of space for us and the luggage. The beds where comfortable and the breakfast was amazing. Also a huge pluss for large parking. When you frist are here you have to rent the hottub! We used it for 5 hours just watching the midnight sun, drinking beer and wine. We even jumped twice in the ocean. The hotel restaurant also delivered food to us, in the hottub. Over all we got so much more than we expected!

Not quite as expected

Not quite my standard. The cabin was OK but no more. Looked clean, but was a bit worn and not up to date. The price compared to the standard was expensive. The places around the cabins could have more tidy and clean.
