Top 10 Lodges in Arkansas, United States

April 18, 2023 Diedre Savory

Living up to its billing as “The Natural State”, the state is a nature wonderland with three national forests, nearly 9,000 miles of pristine streams and rivers, awe-inspiring settings in the Ozark and Quachita mountains and sparkling lakes. The menu of vacation experiences is an exciting one. For great golf, spas, horse racing and the Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs is the place to go. Outdoor enthusiasts love the Ozark Mountains where activities like canoeing, rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking and rock climbing are popular. The mountain village of Eureka Springs, with its streets lined with Victorian homes, is brimming with boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. Wine enthusiasts love the Arkansas Wine Country, encompassing the towns of Paris, Ozark and Altus, where German style wines are produced. From its ancient mountains to the Delta flatlands leveled by the Mississippi River, the state has a diverse topography with numerous scenic drives. Try the Pig Trail, Ozark Highlands and Sylamore scenic byways in the Ozark National Forest designated by the U.S. Forest Service. Golfers love the state because greens fees are extremely affordable for great courses. A few excellent public access courses are Sage Meadows in Jonesboro, Stonebridge Meadows in Fayetteville and the Mountain Ranch Course in Fairfield Bay.

My husband and I needed a break. We had never been to Eureka Springs. We had a lovely visit. We don't like to live amongst the crowds when we escape. We like something more remote with an option for being around crowds. This was a perfect place for us! Is it a little dated, yes. Could there be some improvements, yes. But the cleanliness made all the difference. There are few people on staff, but they provided things as needed. Things to know when looking for a place to stay, this facility is not staffed 24 hours per day. Ask for what you need when staff are available. The views couldn't be better. The evenings were serene. There is a beautiful view of Beaver Lake. We were about 15 or 20 minutes outside of Eureka Springs, which made the commute easy when we wanted to travel to the quaint town for a meal or to shop. Be patient with parking if you go into Eureka Springs. It sometimes takes a while and you may have to walk a bit, but folks were kind. This would be a great place to stay with family or friends as there are also log canins on site. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Poor Customer Service and Quality

We reviewed the hotel on line and saw good reviews, pool and restaurant. These were all things we were looking for. We booked and paid in advance on line for our room. When we arrived we were told the pool was not filled (July). The lady behind the desk, "Tammy", casually stated if you want to swim there is a lot of water around. We had an early day planned the next morning only to find out the restaurant wasn't open. We were forced to pack up and leave early to look for a breakfast spot before our early zip-line experience. The room it self was fair, but musty smelling. If a hotel advertises a pool and restaurant on the website they should both be operational. The check should also be more polite and clarify everything. I'll pick another hotel on our next visit.

If you like sleeping on a dirty rock then you found home. The beds were a rock the pillows were flat. The funiture was broken. The heater only worked enough to heat half the room. The walkways were cluttered and dirty. The sign said No but most of the rooms were open. We had to call multiple times after 9am to get an answer and the office open to cancel the next night. I felt dirty after we left.

Cheap with early check in

Reviewed By nranger7

This was a great room for the price. Not fancy but just what I was looking for while seeing the sights in Memphis and why I really appreciated the noon check in time so I could get an early start. I don't want to be driving around with all my luggage when sight seeing in shady Memphis neighborhoods. The motel is in an area geared towards truckers in between two interstates making it easy to zip over the river to Memphis. There are some places to eat nearby to include an Iron Skillet restaurant so it's not all fast food. (The Denny's has numerous bad reviews so I did not go there.) The motel is owned by a friendly family with kids running around playing in the parking lot. It's cute rather than annoying. The room was clean and appeared to have some new paint and flooring. The blanket on the bed was very pretty. Had a large fridge. The AC worked well and drowned out the freeway noise. The bed was comfortable. The desk was opposite the tv which was weird. Had to sit sideways to work on the laptop and see the tv. Initially had trouble bolting the front door, but I think I was turning it the wrong way. Water pressure could be better. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner. They only had a packet of shampoo which I could not open with wet fingers. No conditioner. Was worried about shady characters, but had no issues during the night and was not woken up. The parking lot was safe. There are no do not disturb signs so they came in my room and tidied up while I was out which I normally never bother with. Overall it was a great stay.

The room I got had a hole in the wall, the smoke detector was not hooked up, linens (including pillows) were stained (not sure bed sheets had even been changed), lamp shade was torn up. The TV worked (most of the time) and breakfast was "on your own". The only positive was I didn't see any bugs except for a single fly that got in.
