La Griglia is an upscale, expensive Italian restaurant with a full bar and valet parking. The food served is excellent, great quality and very well prepared. Bottom Line: This is a pizzeria / restaurant. It’s a BYOB to boot. Plenty of locals dining here on a Friday early evening. Pizza appetizer, Veal / Eggplant Parmagiana, Veal Milanese Sandwich (without the bread…I love my wife), and an Iced Tea. $40. Eh…the pizza is delicious. Maybe come here, but adjust your expectations accordingly, if you’re diving deeper into the menu.Came here on a Friday night (that’s 6pm, for us old folks). Glad we got there when we did, as the 10 or so tables in this streetfront corner eatery were packed by the time our entrees arrived. I was determined to have pizza. I don’t eat pizza often. I’m pretty picky. I don’t like super thin crust, nor do I like a thick and doughy crust (except in the event of a Sicilian pie, but that’s another matter altogether). Scatturo’s crust fell delightfully in the middle, and this may actually be my next “go to” pizza shop. They run a little light on the sauce, which is fine for me. I’m a big fan of cheese, so when a crispy, cheesy, but not so saucy, slice arrived at the table, I was happy. But this is a Pizzeria / Café…Scatturo’s is clearly a family owned local business. Two waitresses, all clad in their best black leggings and tshirts; the owner, behind a cramped counter, white tee, capturing the abdominal curves of a culinary life well-lived, dusted with the day’s work, a combo of flour and semolina. This isn’t Domino’s. This is the culmination of years of plating the classics. A genuine and authentic Italian Pizzeria. I like that. There are three or four other line staff—it’s kind of a circuitous line, kind of like ants on a hill, sometimes crawling onto each other, but they all know where they’re going. They’ve been doing this for awhile. The owner knew practically everyone in the joint, and visited most of them for a quick chat. Nice. So, the food. I’m a sucker for Eggplant Parmigiana. Cheese and sauce, melded together into that fried eggplant. It’s like a happy family, all sitting on the couch, watching TV. The eggplant is cuddled up next to the sauce. They’ve all warm and cozy under an afghan of cheese. Everybody’s happy. Now, invite your friend veal to join you on the couch? I’m in. My mother (God bless her soul and I miss her) made an awesome “cutlet”. She would take a bottom round roast beef, throw it into the freezer for just the right amount of time to be able to cut thin slices and sauté them in a pan after a simple flour, egg, and breadcrumb. Delicious. The intent was to slice the beef thin enough to quickly fry to a tender crisp. I’m not sure what the intent was with Scatturo’s Veal and Eggplant Parmigiana. It was big. Probably too big for most people to eat. Certainly too big for me, and I’m packing 260 (I lost five lbs.). But big isn’t always better. I get it. People see big and they see value. All the pseudo-Italian themed chains send you home with another entrée, after you’ve already eaten. That’s kooky, but that’s the trend. The bottom line is that if you gave me one or two scallopine of a higher quality, instead of four, my guess is I wouldn’t have needed a reciprocating saw to hack through my meal. I get it. Come here for the meals that make you happy. Simple pasta. Chicken Parmigiana. Pizza. Scatturo’s is a Pizzeria / Café. I will not judge it on the same standard as other Trattoria or Italian restaurants. I couldn’t help but think though, as I stared at my plate-sized portion of “veal” (was it really?), if my mother stepped forward for a visit. I’ll definitely come back for the pizza. I’ll skip the veal, and as you know, I’m a sucker for that eggplant. Adjust your expectations, and join me on the couch (once again, it’s a metaphorical couch, not a real one. They don’t have couches here)

Great pizza, great value, fast delivery! Have eaten at the restaurant and ordered delivery many times and the food is fresh and delicious. My kids prefer a plain cheese pizza so that's what we usually order, but my husband loves the wings and the kids love their fried calamari as well. Definitely a great local choice for pizza & other Italian dishes!

La Campagnola

At La Campagnola Kenilworth NJ (formerly Roberto's), enjoy casual family dining at its best. With our chef from Calabria, Italy we offer a wide variety of exquisite dishes and a extended wine list. We are 4 star Star Ledger rated!

La Campagnola is a gem of a restaurant, with some of the best Italian food to be found in New Jersey. Tucked away in Kenilworth's industrial zone, la Campagnola's outward appearance does no justice to the wonderful menu inside. The owner and staff are friendly and very professional -- the waiters recite the day's menu from memory and can make informed recommendations. While the specials (ex, mussels in brandy cream sauce) are mouthwatering, the standard menu (ex, linguine alla vongole) is solid and well done. All the parmagiana dishes are excellent, so is the chicken La Campagnola. The filet mignon, when available, is perfectly done. The menu tilts toward seafood (scallops on risotto, various shrimp dishes, salmon, etc) but really everything is done quite well. The chef/owner worked for many years at a famous Italian restaurant in Jersey City and he knows the palate of his customers. La Campagnola is a hidden treasure.

Triestina is seemingly an old world Italian BYO. Nondescript free standing building with a parking lot in the rear with a larger adjacent lot. The food was excellent, large Porto’s and very well prepared. The veal chops were gargantuan and delicious, the ahi tuna was as good as the chop and also quite large. Other choices sampled by our group were salmon, red snapper and pasta sides, all of which were excellent. Service was very attentive and professional.
