Reviewed By KjcolvardMy third stay in Old Salem at the Zevely. Very comfortable room in an old house restored to period detail like the other museums, shops, and private houses in Old Salem. Cherie, the Innmaster, is welcoming and accommodating, and she cooks a delicious breakfast. I was there for a seminar at the Museum old Early Southern Decorative Arts, within walking distance. Sadly the Tavern across the street is still closed since the Covid lockdowns, so you’ll need wheels to get dinner.

Reviewed By bobbM9314WPThe room was quiet and comfortable. The exposed lumber ceiling was so nicely done that it looked like a work of art. It harkened back to an era from bygone days and allowed you to see construction craftsmanship. A refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig coffee dispenser provided all the short-term items necessary. The breakfast was fresh, hot, and not prepackaged. The staff was incredibly polite, helpful, and professional. We would definitely stay there next time in the Winston-Salem area.

Incredible Long Weekend At the Cardinal

We were blown away by the beauty and history surrounding the building and even more impressed with the staff! The rooms were well maintained and we could have spent a full day in recreation center. The restaurant at the location is decent but there are many other options very close by. I highly recommend this incredible hotel when visiting Winston-Salem.

It was clean the end.
Reviewed By 343derickgLet me start by saying it was clean. And that's were it ends. Shower was bloken, not enough chairs in the breakfast area. Mistery stain on one of the sheets, and the topping on the cake was that to pool that was listed as a feature is not actualy open for use. (My kids were devastated)

Mel, The Hotel Team Expert had the brightest smile, was very kind, courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. He was very accommodating and thorough. He did everything with a smile and Southern Hospitality. I would stay there again just because of him. The property was very clean, the room was in mint condition. It was beyond my expectation. BRAVO!

Place is very dated in need of a remodel
Reviewed By larat558I stayed one night with my son the AC drain was leaking into the room and the carpet was wet. the bathtub did not drain well. Breakfast was mostly prepackaged pastries. There were waffles, biscuits and gravy there wasn’t any biscuits. The place was very dated and in need of a remodel

Uncomfortable bed and non working fridge
Reviewed By 673tonibBed was hard as a rock. The refrigerator doesn’t work in our room, and ice maker isn’t working on the 6th floor. The air conditioner doesn’t seem to be working that well but it may just be because it’s so hot outside..........................

Simply Excellent
Reviewed By Lisa FI needed a place close to the hospital and my daughters college for her surgery. Hawthorne was the closest to both, almost within walking distance to both. I reserved our room for our stay in advance, in which I received an early bird discount. We also received another discount since we were there for the main purpose of the hospital. Due to other circumstances, the day before we were to check in, I needed to check in a day early. They were very understanding and accommodating and still gave me the same rate. The day of her surgery, we realized that our room was not going to be as accessible as we thought, so we needed to change rooms. Again, Hawthorne was very understanding and accommodating and moved us into a more comfortable room for her with no questions asked. On day of check out, we needed a late check out due to having to wait on our transportation, and again, very understanding and accommodating, no questions asked. The entire staff from Check In all the way to Maintenance were AMAZING! They went above and beyond to meet our needs, help us with my daughter and her wheelchair, and made us feel so welcome. The room was spacious, extremely clean (the entire facility was immaculate), and the beds were very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful, although closed for the season. Due to Covid, they did not have the Continental Breakfast as listed on their website, but did have a "Grab and Go" bag with coffee and afternoon tea in the lobby area.
