Top 10 hotels in San Diego, United States

August 5, 2022 Veronika Gaddis

San Diego embodies laid-back California culture, complete with a Boardwalk, surfing communities, and outstanding Mexican food. Breathe in the fresh ocean air at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, then gobble down a fresh fish taco at a La Jolla seafood joint. The naval aircrafts at the USS Midway Museum will have you standing at attention. A free Sunday concert at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion is the perfect way to unwind after a Saturday night bar-hop in the thumping Gaslamp Quarter.

From the moment you enter the fairytale lobby you will be greeted with engaging, knowledgeable, professional, and authentic individuals who genuinely go above and beyond to deliver top of the line white glove service standards. I had the pleasure of speaking with Omar and Sarah at the front desk who undoubtedly understood the long day I endured and made me feel both seen and heard. Omar and Sarah were incredibly understanding and truly valued my expectations. Not only did they provide me with recommendations of activities to do in the nearby area, but they took the time to cover the wide range of amenities this hotel offers. This day in age when customer service seems to be non existent, she was full of impeccable customer service from the very first hello! She was so willing and happy to help me find the perfect room for the perfect price! I haven’t visited the property yet but if they are anything like what I received when I called in to book, it’ll be a fabulous time!

The Lafayette Hotel

Built in 1946, the Lafayette has been the site of historical glamour, and offers a unique change from a typical hotel experience. Among its famous guests were Bob Hope, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner and Betty Grable. Inside, the Mississippi Ballroom took center stage where Hollywood’s stars came to dance the night away. Conveniently located to all shopping, entertainment and business areas, the historic Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows is, indeed, the best lodging choice in San Diego.

Great Service But Tired Rooms

Reviewed By dlbrownpg

First of all, the staff here is a 5 out of 5 without question. Everyone we encountered, from the Front Desk Manager to agents, restaurant, housekeeping, maintenance, couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Now. hopefully, someday, the quality of the rooms themselves can match the excellence of the service. I understand that there may be a renovation on the horizon in the fall, and that would be great. But for now, the rooms are between two and three diamonds. The place is cool, rich in history, and the lobby and pool area are awesome. But honestly, the accommodations don't rate as high. furnishings are beat up, beds are not the most comfortable, bathrooms are small, and the one we had, the surface of the tub was like an ice rink, it was so slick and dangerous. Sound is an issue as well as street traffic is prevalent, along with casual noise from other rooms. Over the years, I have worked in properties similar to this, rich in history, but in dire need of a facelift. Hopefully it comes sooner than later because the location is great, and the dedicated customer service ambassadors need a property that matches their commitment to excellence.

Weekend trip

Reviewed By Olga A

Westin is usually our "go to", and while I know not all Westin hotels are the same, this one stood out, as "do not return". The area is a bit scary. The temp in the room is obviously controlled. We could not get it to be a cool temp. The shower had extremely hot water and we were unable to control the temperature there either. There is no concierge. The bar was small and unimpressive. The restaurant was closed every time we tried to dine there. For the cost of this hotel, they seriously need to rethink amenities.
