Very pleasant stay and area
Reviewed By sevan gTried to take advantage of "low" season coming in with the Mrs. on a late- Feb 2022 weekend, but the jokes on me as its safe to say, this, or any other city in Southern California, has NO low season anymore after covid. Hotel is tucked away behind the top of a steep slope next to I-5 south at the end of a sad and lifeless shopping plaza. At the base of the slope you have a pizza place, Pho place, 99 cent store, a gym, and a few other rinky-dink businesses. Very clean and quiet. Lots of reviews mentioned thin walls and noise, didn't hear a peep. Friday night was empty, Saturday pretty full, but slept very well. Clean, modern look like the Hampton Inn that i love. Great smelling and remodeled new lobby, halls etc. Pillows were too soft sank in them even 2 on top of each other; mattress decent (I prefer very hard this at least didnt sink in middle like most places). Loved the Keurig coffee maker in the room. Was very useful, and they provide as many pods as you like, just bring your own water. Also fridge, microwave. Decent pressure shower. The location is great; you're a few minutes from the pier, restaurant row, outlets right across 1/2 mile can see from balcony(sad and not worth going to), the beach, you name it all very close with car; literally 1-2 exits all I mentioned. Room 320, very comfy and nice view from balcony. The breakfast was not good and very bare saturday morning with a few sausage links and boxed scrambled eggs, better on sunday with ham and cheese omelets and bacon. Could use more variety of hot foods. Also didnt restock the sausage or the bacon had to request it even though clearly none left and people want. (You're welcome fellow guests.) They have a pancake maker that spits out 2-3 per press of the button. Also basic bread varieties like english muffin, plain bagel, and toast with toast machine. juices and coffee on tap. Have had better and worse. Would stay again and recommend, plenty of free parking as well on 2 levels. No one wears a mask just like whole city, its a la-la-land where covid never happened. Doesnt bother me quite frankly sick of mask rule but just saying in case you wrap-up like a mummy maybe this city aint 4u.

Quick overnight stay with a friend
Reviewed By stephanb905A friend and I spent one night at the Casablanca Inn as part of a quick surfing get away trip. We chose the Casablanca Inn mostly based on price and availability. Overall we had an OK stay, not bad but also not fabulous. The photos online give this property a much more glamorous look than what it really is. It's a motel in decent shape and 5 minutes away by car / ride-share from the main restaurants / bar areas. The location is 5-10 minutes walk (depending on how fast you walk) to the beach. The check-in was easy and the staff pleasant. We got our room on time, away from the elevator and ice-machine. The room itself was pretty large, clean and the beds were comfortable but it definitely had a the feel of an older motel that you can tolerate for a night or two. The walls were paper thin though but thankfully we had ear plugs as you can heart TVs and convos from the adjacent rooms. The pool & jacuzzi were not super appealing (the photos make it look a lot more fancy though) and we did not see a lot of people using them so did not bother going. It was nice to have parking on site although the spots were pretty tight for those with larger vehicles (fine for compact and Sedan vehicles). So bottom line, if you're looking for a clean, fairly convenient and affordable place to stay then the Casablanca Inn is suitable. Now if you have time in front of you and can spare a minimum of $50 - $100 more per night then there are better options for sure in San Clemente.

Reviewed By patty49er49erStaying at the Always Inn was such a wonderful experience for our anniversary. Freda was such a fun and caring innkeeper, that we feel that we've made a friend for life. Not only did she give great recommendations for where to eat, but she also made sure that we were taken care of at whichever restaurant we chose, which gave us wonderful culinary experiences. The room we stayed in was cute and even had a jacuzzi tub. The cherry on top of the great time was being allowed to bring our kitties. It can be difficult to find pet friendly places to stay, so we very much appreciated being able to bring the kids. I recommend Always Inn 1000%!

Reviewed By JamesmichaelstrawSeptember 19th, 2021, I happened to find myself down at the San Clemente pier, when I noticed this angel sitting there at the Casa Tropicana, typing on her computer. She honestly took my breathe away & we locked eyes for a brief moment. She smiled at me and it felt like I’d known her for ages. Something about her was just so simple, in the sense that I felt not only greeted, but truly welcomed, to this beautiful Spanish village by the Sea. I believe I will definitely be making another stop by Casa Tropicana & perhaps I will stay there some nights & come down in the mornings to make conversation with this lovely young woman. The place is also in the best location you could ask for when staying in this delightful beach city. I cannot wait to watch the sun set into the Pacific Ocean from the room on the 5th floor, yes.. that is where I shall be staying. Till then, the memory of her will be fresh in my mind & a certain joy to recall, over & over again.

Ok but somewhat disappointing
Reviewed By T2574XFannahThis hotel was supposed to have a really awesome breakfast bar with pancakes, cereal, sausage, etc. Since it was covid it was just a bag with a breakfast sandwich to put in the microwave, an apple, a granola bar and muffin. Pretty lame! Also the jacuzzi chemicals must have been off because it left my skin super irritated - dry and itchy which is a sign of improper chemical balance. Also the first night the jacuzzi was hot, the next day it was just a bit warmer than the pool. I asked the front desk and they said, "if no one is using it they don't turn on the heat." Well how are they supposed to know when and if someone will use it? It should be ready to go all the time! They said if you call ahead they will turn it on. Also they charged a fee of $1 per night per room for a "safe fee" (we had 2 rooms X 3 nights). Super unnecessary and just fee padding if you ask me! When asked to remove it they told me that it was "too late" and it was part of my booking via bookings dot com. One light fixture was broken in the room and my son's bedside lights were broken. Also the phone charger next to the bed was broken. For the price we paid, I expected everything to be in good condition. As far as decor, whoever thought that crown molding should be used to make a "curtain valance" had zero decorating skills. They also could have done without the crown molding and "pillar" type thing attached to the pony wall as that was pretty cheesy. Just stick to a basic crown molding around the ceiling. Also the shower was really weird in terms of adjusting the water temp and the shower head needs to be higher. I'm almost 6" tall and not everyone is a damn shorty! Also, on the last day, housekeeping did not make up the room which meant a pile up of dirty towels, no clean towels and the trash overflowing. The location is ok but about 1.5 to 2 miles on the freeway from "town".

It was quiet and nearby lots of eateries and markets, very convenient and central. The bathroom was so clean! I really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend!! :)

Solid 2.5 Star, Clean No Frills
Reviewed By Abbot71Hotel is a clean, well kept, unpretentious basic accommodation that served me well during a recent 4 night stay. There are only 15 rooms on the two-story property, all facing a busy street. I was assigned room 303, on the ground floor in the middle of 6 rooms. It was nicely painted with neutral colors and one accent wall. It had a rather large mini-refrigerator (with freezer compartment), microwave, in-room safe, iron and ironing board, Keurig coffeemaker (with 2 K-cups, 2 liquid creamers, and cardboard cups), and a quite small LCD wall mounted TV (Cox Cable 500 channels, good variety). Both queen beds were very firm (comfortable, new!) and 3 decent pillows per bed. The bathroom had hair dryer, tub/shower combo, 4 bath towels, 2 face towels, 2 hand towels plus mini sized bar soap and Paul Mitchell shampoo, conditioner, & hand lotion. Water pressure and in-room lighting adequate. No ice machine on the premises. Several days a few amenities were not replaced (shampoo, toilet paper...) so be sure to check while housekeeping is still actively working in rooms. Good complimentary parking and fast free wi-fi (password changed every Sunday morning) with plenty of charging outlets in the room. Photos from previous reviewers showed 2 bottles of water but we never saw any so bought our own. Our room with 2 queen beds had one upright chair and one desk chair. (Pictures of some 1 bed rooms show a couch.) Rooms get VERY stuffy even when the outside temperature is only 70 degrees as there is no cross ventilation...only a small window to open in the bathroom, giving limited ventilation unless you open the front window too (but for security reasons, we kept it closed). Thus I ran the wall-mounted fan/air conditioning unit almost full time and it is noisy. A/C randomly stopped periodically but a simple restart seemed to work. The fan/a/c noise drowned out street traffic noise. I noticed most other rooms also ran their a/c all night so am hoping manager changes filters regularly (marine layer climate can induce mold, dust mites, etc). Strangely there is no open door lobby so check in takes place through a window with a live-in desk clerk who you alert by ringing the bell. I had notified her by phone that I would be arriving after midnight (due to plane delays) and she said she would wake up to check me in if I could give her advance notice when I was driving my rental car from the airport. Not realizing until I arrived how small the hotel was, it was very kind of the man and woman who run the hotel that they worked with me on my late arrival. The neighborhood is not upscale but there are clean, modest eateries in close proximity (Tommy's, Pipes, Pedro's Tacos) as well as other moderately priced hotels and a 7-11 convenience store across the street. If you have a car and are looking for a modest 2-star hotel, this is a decent choice to be within 5 minutes drive of good beaches and surfing areas as long as the price hovers at the $80-100 range. The area seems popular for surfers (near Trestles) and nearby Camp Pendleton weekend leave marines but we found it OK if you are not expecting 3 star service. The hotel has had some recent renovation including very state of the art key/lock system.

With a new Ralphs grocery store one block away and the neighborhood favorite Bagel Shack next door, you can leave your car parked and walk everywhere you want to go! Each room features brand new pillow-top mattresses & linens, large flat screen TVs, free WiFi internet and morning coffee in the lobby area. San Clemente is located one hour south of LA and one hour north of San Diego, and is known as the Spanish Village by the Sea because of its Spanish Colonial Architecture. 20 minutes from Laguna Beach and 10 minutes from Dana Point, San Clemente is a centrally located gem of a town and a great place for vacation!
Very nice older motel for a reasonable price
Reviewed By lissahnThis is such a cute older motel, we had 2 rooms and both were large, very comfortable beds, super clean, and the motel manager is very kind and keeps the outside looking pretty. Conveniences like shampoo and hair dryer were still provided and our A/C units worked just fine (even in July didn't really need much A/C due to the beautiful weather). The parking is free and did accomadate regular size trucks/vans/SUVs but smaller vehicles were easier. There is a fresh made bagel/coffee shop right next door and Antoine's restaurant a short 3 minute walk (yummy and big full breakfasts). We drove down to the pier twice and surprisingly had no trouble with parking. Best of all, this is less than 5 minute drive from Camp Pendleton North Gate!! If you need fancy and modern, this place is not for you. But if you need clean, reasonable price, safe area, and super convenient to everything then I'd highly recommend staying here. It is right down the hill from the I-5 and yet I did not note any high traffic sound. Both young and older people in our group loved this place!! We will ABSOLUTELY be staying here again.
