Parador de Santiago de Compostela

Royal Hospital, late 15th century pilgrim¿s hostelCombining history, art and tradition, the goal of pilgrims and the emblem of St. James, the Hostal dos Reis Católicos, in the Plaza do Obradoiro, forms together with the cathedral one of the world’s most remarkable, and most visited, urban settings. The Hostal, which first saw life as a Royal Hospital in 1499 to house the many pilgrims arriving in Santiago, today still invites the traveller to enjoy this universal and fascinating city. Considered the oldest hotel in the world, it is also one of the most luxurious and beautiful. It has four extremely beautiful cloisters, elegant public rooms, spectacular bedrooms and a luxurious dining room offering Galician style fish and meats and the classic apple filloa pies and crème brulee.

Hotel Spa Relais & Chateaux A Quinta da Auga

The hotel A Quinta da Auga is the first eco luxury boutique hotel with spa in Santiago de Compostela. An 18th-century paper mill restored following the principles of environmental sustainability and aimed to create an unique place in which guests could stay surrounded by greenery, but with all the luxuries that a hedonist traveller tries to find in a four-star hotel: high gastronomy, impeccable service and high-quality spa treatments.

Fantastic find in Galicia!

Reviewed By Steven V

We were looking for a short break over Easter and thought we'd give Galicia a go as we'd not been before. This hotel looked nice online and it had a spa so we gave it a go. This place is probably the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in! The staff are very helpful, friendly, and very keen to help out with anything you need (Juan on reception was excellent to talk to, though all the staff were great). The building is made of very thick solid granite blocks and has a fascinating history as a paper mill. As you walk around the place, you'll see glass panels set into the floors showing that water still flows under the building as it would have done when paper was still made there. We had a premium double room which was very large (other hotels would call it a suite) and very comfortable. It's a shame that there are no channels on the TV and I couldn't get my phone to connect to it to stream anything. The restaurant is outstanding with some fantastic wine that the waiter knew inside out and made a perfect recommendation for us, based on what we said we liked (try a bottle of O Casal, wonderful). The cafe bar is good and the staff are again excellent, but the very limited wine selection is a disappointment unfortunately, particularly as the restaurant, with its fantastic wine selection, was so close. We will definitely look to stay here again in future.

Very nice modern hotel

Reviewed By Derek R

This is quite a new hotel. Nicely laid out minimalist rooms and we had a superior view room which means that the bed faces the sea. It's quite refined, especially compared to other places that I researched nearby. The service at the hotel was excellent and they did their best to accommodate us. One problem could not be solved however. Our room was too warm for me to sleep properly and the aircon could not be turned down below 22C. As a north european I like a cool bedroom and would have liked a degree or two less but the technology would not allow it. A shame because I did not sleep well for any of the 4 nights here. Breakfast was nice and cooked to order if a little expensive but overall I think we would be happy to stay there again... In winter...

Casa Grande do Bachao

An amazing start into our Easter vacation

Reviewed By 416frederikh

We stayed at Casa Grande do Bachao for two nights in the beginning of our Easter vacation 2022. It was our first trip to Santiago, and we were unsure whether to stay centrally in the city or in the countryside. After our visit to Casa Grande do Bachao I can say that staying in the countryside was absolutely the right choice! This place is full of charme, lovely and friendly hosts, an amazing staff, and not least very good and comfortable accommodation. We were upgraded to a larger room which had carefully selected interior and a stunning view over the hills (including sunset from the balcony!). We loved the tranquility of the location. What more to ask for. The breakfast was delicious and the service made us feel appreciated. On the second night we opted to have dinner on site, and we were served a fantastic three course dinner with carefully selected local ingredients, and amazing local wines. The price / quality ratio is very good. We hope to be able to return again in the future!

Nice location. Let down by the fact the pool doesn’t open until JULY

Reviewed By KevChesters

The location is lovely & I couldn’t fault the staff/service. But here’s why only 3*. I booked this hotel because I wanted the pool. Somewhere to relax after walking the Camino. I booked via Expedia. At no point did the booking say the pool only opened in July. I rechecked on Google and it still says they have a pool. Now. There is no pool until July. Annoying. I literally booked this place just for the pool. The fact the pool is seasonal is only mentioned deep on the website. So the main reason I was staying 2km outside the town was pointless. Nice place, but be wary. NO POOL UNTIL JULY.

The building where we are located is equipped with the latest technology so that you can rest at home, even with a complimentary tablet so you do not have to travel with your own. In addition, you can have breakfast when you want, as you have a buffet 24 hour breakfast. Did you think we could not offer you anything else? You will also have a free minibar in your room.

Noise, noise, and more noise.

We thought it unusual that the windows in the room had three layers (2 glass, one wood) to dampen outside sounds. It wasn’t enough!! A nearby stage was being broken down heavy trucks backed up a narrow alley over night, backup alarms on the trucks continually sounding, men screaming, hammering, children screaming (??), this at 2 in the morning. I heard arguing in the hallway between desk clerk and other guests. In the morning, the clerk asked us “Was there anything INSIDE the hotel that disturbed you. “. It was a ‘we are not responsible for your crappy experience’ question. The bottom line? $150 nightmare experience. WE ARE NOT HAPPY. . . .

Looked better in the photos!

Reviewed By rorymcc

The price of the hotel was reasonable as we got a last minute Sunday deal, but the standard price for the hotel is over priced for the facilities. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful but overall the hotel is very disappointing and I wouldn't return. We chose to stay further out from Santiago and closer to the airport for one night, and due to the pictures and facilities thought this would be a great deal. However, the rooms are large but there is literally nothing in them, no coffee/tea making facilities, iron or any drinks to pay in the fridge. The room was a good size but just felt empty. In fact the whole hotel just felt like they had stripped everything back. You have to pay $12 for the spa, and it is very disappointing. The pool and jacuzzis were dirty hidden by the bubbles and needs updating and cleaning. None of the pools were that hot and were barely warm. You can go to some very nice thermal spas in Galicia for $5 so it was definitiely overpriced. We were going to stay in the hotel for most of the evening and have some drinks & food in the restaurant, but the menu was terrible with about 1 or 2 choices. So we decided to drive back into Santiago to get some more choices which we were hoping to avoid. In the rooms you could hear people in most rooms, it was never loud and I was able to sleep but if there was anyone playing music or making more noise it would be an issue. In the morning we wanted to get breakfast and then go to the airport on the monday morning, the breakfast didn't start until 8 which seems a late start especially as many people looked like they were heading for early flights like ourselves. The breakfast was fairly standard and reasonable for the money, but due to the late start it all felt a bit rushed. I wouldn't stay here again and not sure who has given the hotel 4* it advertises as it needs a lot of updating and cleaning, and adding in some little extras you would normally find in a hotel for this price e.g a kettle, iron, tea/coffee etc
