Top 10 hotels in Northern Norway, Norway

August 8, 2022 Fernanda Pittenger

Home to both the midnight sun (with constant daylight from April to July) and the northern lights, North Norway is a rugged land of steep mountains, deep fjords and scenic coastline, making it a great place for outdoor adventures like dog sledding, snowmobiling and wildlife safaris. It's also the ancient home of the Sami people, 3,000 of whom live (along with 100,000 reindeer) at Kautokeino, Norway's largest municipality at over 3,700 square miles.

Unforgettable experience

Reviewed By nathalielinr

We stayed three days at Artic Panorama Lodge. As we arrived Christmas Eve we were picked up by our host Svein personally by boat. We will never forget the marvellous experience we had. The kitchen was superb, including local specialities such as lingelberry sauce or elk. Similarly the food was haven for all tastes and preferences, including vegan. We stayed in a cabin and had a wonderful view to the fjord and lake. The rooms were clean, cozy, and large. The staff and owner of the Lodge always made us feel welcomed by sharing their local knowledge and stories about living near the artic. It was due to them that we had a wonderful Christmas. Also, we went on a whale-watching trip where the effort to spot whales was rewarded. In addition to activties, there is always chances to rest, e.g. with a outside jaccuzi, the sauna, or massage treatments. We will forever remain grateful to Artic Panorama Lodge, which is a haven for all wildlife enthusiasts. Thank you Svein, familiy, and staff. No money or words could fully capture the value and experience you provide for your guests. Greetings from Nathalie and Frieda

An excellent hotel right on the harbour with great views. Our room was large and modern. We had a great place to sit and enjoy the views of the Arctic Cathedral and snow capped mountains in the background. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent. Lots of restaurants close by. Nothing more to ask for!

An okay+ hotel

Reviewed By TBR70

We had the pleasure of staying 5 nights at The Edge. The hotel is located beautiful at the dock in Tromsø, with an amazing view. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Not much room for hanging your clothes if you are two persons. There was no window or ventilation (not working anyway) in the bathroom. Temperature in the room was a little high, the AC only went down to 19 degrees celcius. Checkin and staff in general was super fine. The breakfast buffet was rich, maybe too rich. I would prefer a smaller buffet and a better quality of the food. One day (monday) there was no juice at all, Only milk, water and smoothie. This is in my opinion, not acceptable for this kind of hotel. All in all a good stay, and I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Eliassen Rorbuer

There is a place on Earth where the Sun never sets, the Northern lights never cease to amaze, and the landscape changes constantly, the wind never stops blowing and the people always smile. These are the Lofoten. Eliassen Rorbuer is a holiday resort with fishermen’s cabins, enjoying the longest tradition in the tourist industry in Lofoten. We offer accommodation in a traditional fishermen’s cabin camp, in the most beautiful western part of the Lofoten Islands. It is situated on the tiny island of Hamnøy in Western Lofoten, the Moskenes municipality. The island is the last one in the archipelago to have the road link. Currently the Lofoten Islands are mainly associated with fishing, which takes place from January to April, alongside the entire archipelago. All of our cabins are new renovated and got a new floor, kitchen, bathroom and furnishings. Welcome to refreshed Eliassen Rorbuer!

Could be better

Our room was with direct view to the fjord and mountains- excellent - but there is no direct acces from the room to the terrasse. The rorbuer room is fine for two people - but I would not stay a family of four. The bedroom is small and one side direct to the wall, so you have to crawl over. In stead we used the bed in the livingroom which is wallhanged - that leaves very little space to walk around. The bathroom is huge and nice and there are kitchen - but NO coffefacilities - unless you bring your own - how many tourists from abroad do that? When we booked we were asked if we would like to have breakfast - yes please - and though I didn't got a confirmation - three days before we arrived I got another message about breakfast. As we arrived just to find out that the rorbuer did not serve breakfast at the restaurant at that time of the year ( end august) . The place was fully booked and the restaurant was open - come on. So back to the supermarked -5 minutes down the road - and buy some fruit, bread and coffee. Now we have instant coffee for the next travel. AT least the rorbuer could have these small coffeepots they have in every hotel- if not for free - they can sell it. Disappointing. The rorbuer Wass the most expensive place in our trip -but they should take a look at Norsk Havbrugscenter - and see how they do things. I will not recommend this place - there are better options in the area.
