Top 10 hotels in California, United States

June 22, 2022 Jasper Kershner

California is a fertile, peaceful place where you’ll find a near-equal balance of vineyards and deserts, beaches and mountains, hippies and traditionalists. Catch an epic wave in Big Sur or swirl a glass in Napa Valley. Be dazzled by the Joshua Tree night sky or just star-gaze in Hollywood. Swish down the slopes of a Tahoe ski resort, or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down and the music blasting. Above all, don’t forget to soak up some Golden State sunshine.

Happy with the property and encountered very nice staff here, but one employee stood out and deserves to be acknowledged. We visited your Gift Shop for snacks and drinks, and found the friendliest, most knowledgeable and pleasant employee, LISA. She knew so much about the area and Disneyland. We hadn't been to Disneyland in 7 years and Lisa gave us so many tips on what to do in the park, restaurant suggestions in the park and near the hotel, where to watch the fireworks the night before our Disney reservation etc. We felt like we had our own personal concierge! Thank you LISA for all your helpful suggestions - it made our trip so much easier! We will surely book with you again !

Audra at the front desk at Hotel Emblem made our stay so fun and comfortable! This hotel is where you want to be! You are near cable car stops and near Union Square. My husband and I felt so at home with a diffuser, fridge and yoga mat that the staff brought up to our room as complimentary amenities. Service was fast and polite. This hotel made San Fran even more fun than we could imagine!

Called in to the resort and spoke with Shakira. She was absolutely pleasant! This day in age when customer service seems to be non existent, she was full of impeccable customer service from the very first hello! She was so willing and happy to help me find the perfect room for the perfect price! I haven’t visited the property yet but if they are anything like what I received when I called in to book, it’ll be a fabulous time!

Wonderful Stay!

We arrived at The Shore after a brief stay in San Fran, the reception staff were all so efficient and friendly, we dropped our bags and shortly received a text to say our room was ready, the porter was super friendly and our room (405) was perfect, great view of the pier, and the ocean! The room and bathroom was immaculately clean and stayed that way throughout our stay, we were there for 6 nights. The room staff were also so friendly always had a “hello” whenever they saw us. The pool was lovely and warm and the hot tub/spa like a hot bath, again kept so clean. Towels provided and also sun cream which I’ve never seen before. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on that. If we return to Santa Monica I would definitely stay at this hotel. I will also recommend using the metro very cheap and easy to use, you can get about quickly - the open top bus was good and informative, but on a revisit I would use the metro to go to specific areas.

Not what we would have expected

Reviewed By Livingourbestlife2

While the hotel is beautiful and clean our stay was disappointing. Upon arrival we were told we needed to pay $150 per night which ours worked out to be $1050. I understand holding a card but to take the money and return 3-5 days after departure is not good. On our 2nd and 3rd nights stay we were woken at 7am with drilling above us or a similar kind of noise and on the 3rd day the same noise but to the side of us. We understand maintenance work needs to be done but at 7am whilst on a relaxing holiday was not what we expected. We spent a couple of days around the pool and all the sun beds are lined up equally approximately 12 inches from the pools edge which felt very close for trying to walk around so my Husband pulled ours back slightly and was told quite rudely by one of the pool attendants they needed to be put back or she would be in trouble.she then proceeded to put them back. We are meant to be on holiday but it felt very regimental as to what you could and couldn’t do. Some of the staff around the pool never gave you the time of day or even acknowledged us. We understand that after COVID making money back is very important but there was such a fuss made for meeting/conference guests. Please treat all guests equally Please remember we also paid to stay in your hotel too. Upon departing we were never asked how our stay we were just told a invoice would be sent to my e.mail address of our bill. We did not get a holiday vibe everything was rather regimental. We have never felt this way about any hotel we have stayed in. I think they need to lighten up and allow guests to be on holiday. It’s not all about image it’s about making your guests feel comfortable and welcomed and unfortunately we didn’t. May I point out that the cleaners are the ones that need recognition for keeping this hotel spotless and finding time to speak to you whenever they saw you. Maybe some of the other staff could take some advice from them. Well done to all the cleaning staff.

The Capri Laguna was perfect for our girlfriend birthday celebration! I cannot say enough about the location-our room overlooked the beach and was breathtaking. It was wonderful falling asleep every night to the sound of the waves. It was within walking distance to downtown Laguna Beach, which was very convenient. And all the staff was very friendly and helpful. I can’t say enough about staying there and we’re talking about making it a tradition to return every year to celebrate our birthdays there.
