Perfect first night in Spain

Reviewed By abaesel

We arrived in Spain (Barcelona) mid day and drove northwest to Besalu for our first few nights in Spain (on our way to Marseilles). Casa Marcial is on a quiet street in the heart of the walled city of Besalu. The room was spacious, very clean, with a comfortable bed and a good bathroom. We had a charming view through French doors across the rooftops of Besalu. Breakfast was delicious and varied. There was an elevator which we appreciated as we were very tired from the flight and travel with too much luggage! The only word of advice, if you are driving your own car, please talk with the hotel prior to arrival as to where you should park and how to get to the front door of the hotel. The GPS was quite confused as to what streets were drivable or not. But it's worth the effort. An enchanting village.

We had a wonderful meal here. The food is simple but really good and fresh. The service was very friendly. My table had meat and monkfish and all courses were delicious. Family friendly restaurant, would recommend visiting Besalú and then leaving and stopping here for a meal!

Good location, free public parking nearby, ok breakfast. Even if the Hotel has some very nice details, our rooms, except for the view, were nothing special. We were in Besalu in November, not a very big choice of restaurants in town for dinner.

Convenient for the old town.

Reviewed By Redsilkshutter

This was an overnight stop for us. The hotel is small and situated in the old town.we parked in the public car park just outside the old town by the roundabout. It's only a short walk to the hotel over cobbled streets. When we arrived the reception door was locked, no-one came when we buzzed the door. But eventually we entered as someone was coming out. Evidently the staff also run the café, so maybe it would be best to go through that way. The hotel was very clean and the beds comfy. Breakfast was the usual continental. They could do with an automatic toaster though! Everyone had trouble with it and the staff continuly turned the temperature up and down.

Quiet location, adequate facilities, good value for money.

Reviewed By Davide K

Quiet, secluded village location in the countryside, off the main road. Our room and the bathroom were spacious, with a direct access to the garden. The common areas are also very spacious and pleasant, with a rustic feel. Tea and infusion facilities are always made available in the common areas. The cleanliness standard was good. Breakfast was adequate. The facility is family managed, and the lady who attended us was kind and helpful. Would go again.

Super central and nice view to the old bridge

Reviewed By 238arneb

All good and super friendly check in - almost everything we needed was there....... the suite is very exaggerated - it is the one of three rooms with private bathroom but not really a suite. Cosy fireplace - perfect place to stay for a weekend and explore the river and old town. We stayed all weekend and did not get back into the cars. You can actually drive into the center plaza and drop luggage and then drive out again with cars.

Stupendous views & Authentic Farmhouse

Reviewed By Dancingcgal

All said before here is definitely true! Charming, knowledgeable, hard-working, most helpful hostess, Ellen-Marie. A delightful location to explore medieval Besalu’ and scores of other scenic towns to choose from. Room very clean, outdoor bountiful breakfast is an understatement on both accounts: Pyrenees views & food for an army! 3 days was not long enough to explore all I’d like to but we went from volcanic region by Sant Pau still lived-in rustic medieval town to seaside villages including surviving 40 hairpin turns to Cadeques. Drove also through rollling meadows & pastoral cottages without hardly meeting another car. Toured amazing 400 BC large Empuries, a highlight of 3 week trip for my husband with town’s ancient Greco-Roman ruins! Did not use her pool but looked refreshing. Mornings nice but needed sweater & long pants eating outside in cool crisp air!

Besalu is well worth a visit, beutifull town with many restaurants. The campsite was tidy'ish. 25€ for a night pretty expensive for amenities provided. The toilet block was abysmal. The smell was that bad my wife refused to have a shower in there. Totally in need of a renovation.

Besalú

My job recently took me to Besalú, and what a place to visit! It's a truly spectacular little medieval village that honestly looks like a film set from some amazing movie! Some of the quiet little cafe's and bars tucked away in the side streets offer great food and drink at even greater prices. Although I was there for work, the limited amount of time that I got to look around will ensure that I return for a proper holiday there soon.

Nice apartments in the old town

Reviewed By Konstantin S

I'd say it's a studio with the bedroom. There is a lot of space for 2 people to stay, and I'd say that even 4 people wouldn't feel any discomfort staying there for several days. I'm not sure if this apartment is good for winter trips to Besalu, but the apartment is definitely good for staying during your summer trips
