Would return; nice relaxing break

Solo trip for 5 nights. Large hotel with simple but comfy quiet room (high floor - maybe noisier lower down). Maid service daily. Buffet food very nice with adequate choices and freshly cooked. Nice outdoor terrace bar and indoor evening entertainment. Staff friendly and highlight is the outdoor infinity pool which is huge and gorgeous with lovely view. Also a separate lazy river and slides for the kids. The shop is not nearby so advise getting anything needed before arriving or pay 10 euro round trip in local taxi. It is walkable but up and down vertical hills.

Great stay

We have just goy back from a week away to the Playa Spa and it was brilliant. We did the all inclusive which was very generous for drinks not only local spirits on offer. The staff we're lovely and very accommodating for my son who has multiple food allergies which for most places can be a challenge but it they never made us feel like accommodating it was difficult, infact there were multiple dairy free milks readily available at all times. The facilities were clean, the WiFi was the best hotel WiFi I've had and we really enjoyed our trip. If I could improve one thing it would be the beds they could be softer but it's a minor thing as we very much enjoyed our stay! Thank you guys

We have just returned from a three night stay at this hotel. We loved everything about the hotel. The Moorish deco and design of the hotel are the same as on their website. The staff and service were excellent and the rooms were immaculate and clean. We felt very welcomed by the staff at this hotel and cared for - a sense we were personally looked after. And by the way, the food and restaurant was superb. A special visit and we shall return!

Five Nights in Almunecar

Reviewed By mcgill73

I've been coming to Almunecar for nearly 20 years as my parents used to own an apartment in the area. I can remember when this hotel was being built, and when it was the Playa Cotobro Hotel always thought it would be a good place to stay. Fast forward a few years and with COVID (hopefully) on the way out, my partner and I decided to spend five nights here at the end of May 2022. We flew into Granada Airport, and an hour's drive later we were at the hotel. Since being rebranded as the ON Aleta the hotel has been extensively refurbished, and has a contemporary feel, with lots of Chinese/Thai-style furniture. We arrived at around 10pm and were checked into our room within 5 minutes- we had originally booked a non-sea facing room but were pleased to be upgraded to a room on the side of the building that gave a view of the beach. The room was well decorated and spacious. It had a large double bed, extensive wardrobe space and a minibar with complimentary drinks refreshed daily. Unfortunately it does not offer tea & coffee making facilities, which for some reason is very common in hotels in Spain. There was also a balcony with two chairs, and this gave a good view of the beach across the road from the hotel. The bathroom was also of a good size and was clean and modern. Good quality shampoo, shower gel and body lotion were provided, and the shower was one of the best we have used in a hotel. Complimentary beach towels were provided, and these proved very useful. The room had a good sized TV, but only Spanish language channels were offered, which did surprise us given the international nature of the other guests we saw in the hotel. We had breakfast each morning and were impressed with the range and quality on offer. There was a good choice of cold and hot buffet options available, and a chef was on duty to make omelettes, pancakes and other items. Breakfast could be eaten inside or outside on the terrace, though this area does not get much sun in the mornings. Prior to its refurbishment the terrace area contained a swimming pool, and we were slightly disappointed this was no longer there. However there is a smaller pool available on the roof terrace on 5th floor, together with a sun loungers and parasols. The terrace has great views over Cotobro beach, though during our stay it was quite windy so not practical to spend too much time there- however you can imagine it would be a great sun trap in the height of summer. The hotel is a 20-minute walk into Almunecar, where tere are a good range of shops, bars and restaurants available. There is a also a bus stop outside with regular services into the town centre. We hired a car for our stay and there is a car park located under the hotel, though we used the widely available on street parking nearby. We enjoyed our time ON Aleta and would recommend it as a relaxed place to stay when visiting Almunecar.

Unexpected surprises

Reviewed By 320len

We really enjoyed our first stay at this smart, comfortable hotel. The hotel was spotless and the staff, particularly in the dining room were so friendly and helpful. However, the first week was surprising in that we were only 2 of 6 guests !!?? So the meal choice at dinner was restricted. The chef asked us what meat and or fish we would like him to cook fresh for us. Our second week was different as 2 large parties of Norwegian guests arrived on separate days. So as well as a few more couples arriving, the dining room was much busier and the menus much longer and more varied. The starters and main course dishes were delicious and well cooked with something for everyone. It was nice to have a free bottle of red or white wine and one of water at each table, being half board. Service was prompt and friendly. On a couple of days, we were presented with extra end of meal treats. We did find at times that the food wasn't as hot as we would like...maybe this will not be a case when the hotel is busier. The beds were comfy, the showers excellent. There is a Jacuzzi next to the heated outdoor pool, 2 shutes into the pool s and a sauna up on the 5 th floor. Evening entertainment started in our second week. Not sure whether daytime games were attended though up on the programme. There was only one English tV channel ( 4 ). A fellow guests in the second week told us how to get English language on Spanish channels showing English made programmes using the handset ( white symbol at bottom). Hopefully reception staff could give advice.Almunecar is an interesting town to explore including several museums and a fascinating ruined castle. Local cheap buses let you explore further afield. The beach is pebbly, but popular in the summer? Local cafes give free tapas with drinks purchased during the day. Our favourite was Bar San Cristobal on the seafront. Overall an enjoyable hotel which we hope many choose to visit as the season progresses. A big supermarket is 5-10 level minutes walk away, but not open on Sundays. A lot of attractions are closed on Monday.
