A very chill , comfortable family like hostel!!

Reviewed By Dave Z

I was passing through Uruguay on my way to Brazil, and stumbled across this hidden gem. Being a English speaker with very little Spanish knowledge , it was refreshing in Montevideo to have some of the staff who could speak English. The only precaution is this hostel is quite 4:20 friendly. They staff smoke marijuana frequently as it is fully legal in Uruguay. So I do advise if you have issues with weed , perhaps don’t stay here, although there is no pressure to smoke. I met tonnes of great people , they have family style vibes and there’s smart tv with Netflix, where I couldn’t watch some American shows. The staff also mingle quite frequently with the travelers, there’s music and there’s always someone cooking. The location is farther from downtown but is right by the beach and has all the basic necessities . If you stay here Vinny and Lee were the stronger English speakers and were greatness people, however all of the staff were amazing!

Bit lacking in character

Reviewed By JohnHGloucestershire

Great position, very clean and our room was spacious with a good bathroom. The staff were very helpful and you can hire bikes. However we found it a bit lacking in character. Normally with hostels there are lots chances to chat to other travellers but that just didn't happen. There isn't a shared kitchen (though you can bring in ready prepared food) and maybe that's why. We just didn't feel that it merited the great reviews others had given it but we may have just been unlucky

Not recommended - over-priced

I am puzzled as to why this place received such high ratings - the key reason why I booked my stay (and wish I hadn't). I have travelled to over 40 countries and have stayed in hundreds of different hotels and never once have I asked to leave - but I did here once I saw my room. It was a private suite for $108 US a night - and it was a dump. The room was small and bathroom smaller, could barely turn around; the mirror was hung low (I am about 1.80m) which made it impossible to shave. To be fair, the manager tried to be helpful and moved me to another room for the night (or else I would have left as cheaper hotel rooms could be found; in fact, I had cancelled a hotel booking, where I had paid less, just so I could try this hostel), but it still doesn't change the fact that there is no way they should be charging such exorbitant rates for a second-rate room.

Cabo Polonio is a great place to visita, it is quiet, isolated, small and disconmected from everything. You can breath fresh air there and see the sunset. Anothe amazing experience is to watch the stars and the fare at night. An excelent place to stay is lobo hostel bar, where you can eat food from the sea and have a great time with the staff

Montevideo

Karin provided us with a lot of information about the city and made us feel at home. The best way to explore this city is by bike and this hostel has really nice bikes to rent (for a cheap price). I’d recommend this hostel if you’d like to have a good night rest and meet different people from all over the world! Also, if you like to cook: their kitchen is amazing!

Hostel Viejo Lobo

Good social vibe and helpful staff!

Reviewed By rozaliyaoh

This hostel has everything you needed. I was surprised that they even have WiFi and electricity. Well equipped kitchen you can use or order breakfast/lunch/dinner and have a family dinner. Staff members are very helpful, welcoming and careful. Beds are very comfy + shower with hot water. I left my optical glasses there and was very upset that I will never see them again, but we contacted them and asked if they can find someone who goes to Montevideo next day and they did. OMGosh, guys, I can't be thankful enough for such an effort to help me to reunite with my glasses. I can read again and see everything properly. You are simply the BEST!!!

Cute place out of town

Reviewed By sabs_sto

The place is very cute and the general area is very clean. They have everything you need in the kitchen and the outdoor area to sit is very cosy. The staff is also very nice. We had a private room, and it was nice except for the fact that it was very damp and also smelled that way. You could not open the window in the bathroom, which means the condensation remains in the room. Also, the sprinkler was set up in a way that it came in through the window. You could also not close the window the whole way. Beach is 500 meters away and there is a bus into town.

A Diamond in the Rough This small and quaint Inn/Hotel fit our budget while meeting our requirements for a clean, cozy atmosphere, close to the beach, shops and restaurants. Our room, including the toilet and shower area were very clean and neat. The common area and small bar, had plenty of chairs, couches and tables for relaxing - I especially enjoyed my new experience with the built in wood stoves called Parrilla (I think). The staff was very friendly and helpful at check-in/out and with recommendations and directions for the beach, restaurants etc. we did love the La Susana restaurant on the beach (5 min walk from Posada) and I especially the martinis. I don't write reviews often but this little hidden jewel exceeded our expectations in all categories; value, customer service, location, and comfort

Excellent!

When you arrive late in the afternoon the place might look desolated. But when you wake up in the morning it turns out that you are in paradise. Don't let the barking dogs in the street scare you, they are sweet (this is said by a person that's afraid of dogs). The owners are super friendly. The hostel has bikes, to go into town or explore surroundings. It is very close to beautiful beaches. BreAkfast and wifi are really Good. Clean bathrooms and comfy beds! Grocery shopping can be done in la Barra, that's cheaper than Jose Ignacio. Cooking is allowed, baking isn't.
