Alphen aan den Rijn (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɑlfə(n) aːn də ˈrɛi̯n] ( listen), English: Alphen upon Rhine or Alphen on the Rhine) is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, between Leiden and Utrecht. The town is situated on the banks of the river Oude Rijn (Old Rhine), where the river Gouwe branches off. The municipality had a population of 109,449 in 2017, and covers an area of 132.49 km (51.15 sq mi) of which 5.91 km (2.28 sq mi) is water.

This is a very nice restaurant in many respects. The interior is very nice and excellent service. I think the chef also really knows how to cook as shown by the good taste of several of the dishes, with special compliments for the French fries. However, some serious problems need to be fixed. An almost complete lack of healthy vegetables is nowadays hardly acceptable anymore. Furthermore, all dishes were far too high on calories, e.g. the pumpkin soup, and especially the dessert was completely over the top with too much cookies and other stuffing ingredients. So if they adapt to modern times and give much more attention to healthy ingredients, that by the way most often can also taste great, this restaurant has a great future.

Enjoyed a nice a glass of wine and a few beers accompanied with a cheese and sausage bites.Nice location with a view over the Rijn. While enjoying drinks the cook was busy baking a homemade Dutch apple pie...smelled wonderful.

Wederom de werkweek afgesloten met een leuk etentje. Dit keer bij Bregje. Een leuk concept, al bekend uit Breda, en prima bevallen. Leuke vlotte bediening en zeker niet lang wachten hoewel het behoorlijk druk was. Goed gegeten en de wijn is lekker.Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.

Alfred's ambiance is warm, inviting, casual elegance. It has long been one of my favorite places in Alphen. Seated at a familiar table, feeling happy with anticipation, the new menu was delivered...the plastified monstrosity looked like it was designed by a child for a pizzeria instead of a restaurant. It took away my desire to even read it, let alone order from it! What a disappointment! Luckily, they offered a suprise menu so we didn't have to spend any extra time with that "thing" on the table.The food and wine were average... not as flavorful as on previous visits. The amuse and 4 "small plates" from the surprise menu were plentiful and attractively served as was the dessert. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive.

This is the kind of restaurant that delivers an experience you just can't help taking about after you've left. Most of the time I don't take the effort of writing reviews, but in this case I'm more than willing to make an exception. The service is wonderful, warm and friendly. They take personal changes to the menu into account without a problem (like leaving out particular ingredients like shrimps in the soup). Everything is prepared with fresh ingredients and served timely, hot and with care for aesthetics. I would recommend anyone to spend some time and money here. It's worth it!

The restaurant is located along the river Old Rhine next to a bridge. The cul-de-sac creates a quiet surrounding and the terrace along the river for nice views. The food is fine, not very inspiring but of good quality. Staff service could be improved. I hate waiting 15 minutes before my empty plates are removed or empty glasses refilled. Most disturbing though is the difference in addressing the customers. Too cosy with regulars and too distant with new customers. But on a sunny day on the terrace with a nice meal, you can do much worse.One tip: replace the gravel with tiling!

We went on a Saturday evening making a booking at very short notice. Booking is needed on many nights. We failed to get in on our previous 2 attempts. The staff are very welcoming. We arrived a little early for our table and were seated at the bar with a drink on the house while we waited for our table to clear. The food was excellent with one of the best burgers I have had anywhere. The entrecote was also beautifully cooked. The grand dessert which we shared was magnificent with seven different mini desserts.Excellent review. Very happy with.Thank you.
