Wow this is a great restaurant in Lorrach Germany. We walked to this from our hotel about a 7 minute walk. The owners greeted us and we ate large. The salads are fresh and very tasty dressings. The steaks are well prepared and wow on the salmon and veal dishes. Very nice atmosphere and the dishes are like art work for these people. I will be coming back again.

We were a group of four, and the restaurant was full. The acoustics meant that it was very noisy. My wife started with a green salad - fresh and with good dressing, but heaped on the plate in an unimaginative way. My seafood and orange risotto starter was excellent. The couple who accompanied us enjoyed their carpaccio. The two ladies and I ordered fish as the main dish, and here the problems started. My wife and I got our sole and - after a long wait - the potatoes to accompany them; the first serving of the fish was very tasty, the second was over-salted and starting to dry out. Our friend had to send his liver back to be drained, as it was swimming in butter, and his wife waited and waited... Finally she was told that her perch had been burned, and she'd have to wait for a new batch. That duly arrived - and was very good - and much later the tartar to accompany it, by which time the rest of us were almost finished. Two of us had small ice cream desserts, and all four mineral water and coffee. Our fish was accompanied by the very good local pinot grigio (Weiler Schlipf). My impression was of a fair restaurant on a bad day.

Ufer7 Basel

Reviewed By jej9001

I live in New York City and let’s just start by saying I’m a food snob. I hate playing high prices for a poor meal. I had such hopes for Ufer7. It got great reviews on this site. Ufer7 sits right on the Rhine River in Basel. We arrived at 7:30 pm on a Friday night. The terrace was hopping. The inside of the space is stucco with wood tables and bare decorative bulbs. I little jarring for my taste. The menu lists multiple small items to share on a platter. We choose two to start with. Falafel and a mushroom soup option. The menu was in Swiss German so it was a little tricky. The top of the menu says food should be pleasing to the eye then the tongue. The food looked great but it all tasted like sandpaper. The falafel was dry and tasteless and I could not discern a mushroom taste in the soup. We shared a fresh fish plate which was composed of shrimp with the heads on, red rice, bok choy and salmon. All very boring. The meal was followed by two slices of carrot cake that I could swear came out of the freeze. You know that sort of wet dense freezer burn taste. Either way I took one bite and decided it was not worth the calories! What were the good points? The staff, they were lovely and helpful. I was a little surprised when the bill came to 142 Franks for 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers a dessert and a tea. Not way out for Swiss restaurants but when I gave the waitress 150 F she just walked away with the change. As an American I would have tipped but assuming you should just take a tip is a little off putting. I’m hoping the chef was sick that night and they will be on their game in the future otherwise definitely not worth it except for drinks on the terrace.

As you would expect, this 3 Michelin star restaurant is excellent in all respects. The Chef de Cuisine Peter Knogl was in the kitchen and Le Menu of 5 courses (without cheese) at 220 CHF provided some exciting, innovative dishes as follows: Hamachi japonais, ponzu, radish and avocado; langoustine, madras curry and Granny Smith apple; St. Pierre and green beans; Bresse pigeon and Tasmanian pepper; and Champagne, raspberries, mint and kalmansi. The Pigeon was our favourite, but they were all delicious and the presentation superb. The wine suggested was an excellent bottle of local Swiss pinot noir (less than 10km from Basel). The service was very good, perhaps a little understated. Delightful, moderate-sized room in this historic hotel made for a lovely evening.Dear GuestMany thanks for your detailed description and your great feedback of your recent visit at the Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl. We are delighted to read that with our cuisine, service and wine recommendation, we could create a perfect dinner evening. Located in a small non-descript town, from outside the restaurant does not impress, but inside there is a nice modern design, elegant but still casual. Very good design.Nice garden seating area. The food is really excellent. I had as a starter the scallops- wow, not only it looked great but it was extremely tasty. As main dish I had the veal which was excellent as well, the dessert strawberry with ice cream was very good as well, but the best dessert was the sorrel sorbet which was absolutely top! Overall the food is really excellent and is at least at one star Michelin level.Ver good wine list, of course with lots of German wines from the region.Service was casual but friendly. What would have made the experience even better: no one asked at the end of the lunch if we were happy - a gesture that could make a difference.Price level for food is good for the quality you get. Only the wines are a bit overpriced for Germany. Concussion: great experience, I can highly recommend this restaurant for food lovers who love a casual but nice environment.
