We had a delicious (long) lunch at the Bastide de Capelongue (restaurant Edouard Loubet) recently. The location is absolutely spectacular with the restaurant offering gorgeous views out over the Luberon from the very highest point of Bonnieux, and the food manages to live up to the setting. We had a lovely afternoon and very much hope to return in the near future. Location/Space - Bonnieux itself is an extremely picturesque village and the Domaine de Capelongue, which sits at the very top of the village, boasts truly spectacular views of both the village and the valley below. The restaurant itself sits near the front of the Domaine and has one of the best views that I know of for such a high-quality dining experience. Coming for lunch allows you to enjoy those views to the max. The restaurant space itself is extremely bright and airy, having huge floor-to-ceiling windows at both front and back. There are also 2 large terraces, although sadly on our visit, the Mistral meant it was too windy for outside dining. The interior design is very classic 'French country' - tiled floors, white wooden furniture, crisp white table cloths. Welcome/Service - We received a lovely welcome and excellent, friendly service throughout. We had experienced a sudden failure with our dog-sitter so had emailed the restaurant to ask if we could bring our (small) dogs. They had replied that that would be fine and they were absolutely wonderful about it. We're always very self-conscious when we dine out with the dogs in a fine-dining restaurant - very aware that other diners might be annoyed or upset - so we often ask to be seated on an outside terrace or in a quiet corner. In this case, it wasn't necessary, as the dining room was very quiet and we checked with our immediate neighbours who gave the dogs the thumbs up. We loved the flexibility that the restaurant offered. It made us feel very relaxed and allowed us to really enjoy our afternoon. Food - Our meal was absolutely excellent, definitely deserving it's 2* Michelin rating. We took the main tasting menu, called A Yvon in honour of the chef's son, I believe. Chef Loubet produces a wonderful fusion of the kind of classic decadence that you often find in the top-rated French restaurants (truffles, caviar, etc) with the lighter, earthier ingredients that you associate with Provence (olives and olive oil, aubergines, tomatoes, Mediterranean herbs). We had never experienced that kind of combination before and loved it. For pure decadence, the obvious stand-out dish for us was the whole truffle en-croute in a pastry shell, with yet more truffle shaved on top. This dish is definitely for those who take the view that you can never have too much of a good thing! On the other hand, the other standout dish for me was an incredibly simple pan-friend fillet of lamb, served with 2 'puffed' potato slices, and a poached tomato. The flavours were simple and delicious. Among the multiple excellent desserts, the chocolate soup was fabulous. Overall - We had a delightful afternoon at Restaurant Edouard Loubet. The combination of location/views, service and food is hard to beat. We also felt it was good value for money - around 200 Eur per person for the full tasting menu, with a lovely white Chateauneuf-du-Pape selected by the excellent sommelier. We love this particular part of Provence and are already planning a return visit. When we do, we'll definitely be including a return visit to Restaurant Edouard Loubet.Dear Fouski,What a delight to read your review! Our family of five enjoyed a lovely meal here on the terrace overlooking the valley below Bonnieux. We ordered the cod, lambshanks and the house preparation of a giant fillet. Everything was delicious. Our evening was made more pleasant by our charming waiter who graciously encouraged us to keep trying our terrible French.

Late July, midweek, and the large dining-area filled rapidly after our arrival; parking space is adequate but [though I stand to be corrected] I didn't see any space specifically for people of reduced mobility.The outdoor setting is attractive, with the Neapolitan pizza oven by the building, and tables for everyone from groups down to couples. We had booked but there were some who had not; they were accommodated by the cheerful young staff.Our group included adults, children and older folk who would not have the very good pizzas. There the problem started. The salads etc served on slates are pretty mediocre, and the starters are bland and unexciting. The pasta dishes offered as an alternative are quite tasty however. And one young lady aged 7 completely demolished an impressive children's pizza.The adults all had 'cocktails' to start with. We suspected: the barman juggled the ice-cubes in his shaker but out from under the bar would come the cocktail mixes. A very modest dash of alcohol would be added. Our verdict: the cocktails were unchallenging.Wines are local French or of course Italian, standard stuff. Service is, shall we say, cheerful, informal and not always attentive. If food is left, no questions as to why.Desserts are over-sweet concoctions. We strongly suspect the use of bought aerosol mascarpone.Prices are higher than warranted by the quality. Are they still paying-off the loan on that wonderful oven? Yet in a family group an entertaining evening passed by under a beautiful sunset.Apart from the pizzas, this is so-so food in an enjoyable setting.

Beautiful views, gorgeous views, trellis patio, and incredible beer. Came here with my fellow students on a study abroad program. We came from Colorado, and we found this beautiful cafe perched upon a beautiful hill in the French countryside.

If you are visiting the Vaucluse region of France -- e.g. Roussillon, Menerbes, Gordes, etc. -- don't miss the excellent restaurants in Goult, a smaller hilltop French town nearby. Goult is not a 'tourist village' but has some excellent restaurants. We enjoyed Le Bartaville on our last trip. Call ahead for reservations; this is popular spot for very good reasons! (We booked the last table in October, for example - well past the 'tourist' season.) The food was excellent. Let me say that again, "Excellent!" They were very friendly too, despite our limited French. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect -- ancient stone arches with a warm atmosphere. In the summer they also have tables on the walk-street outside, under umbrellas.In short, La Bartavelle is definitely worth the drive from wherever you are staying in the Vaucluse. Park in the small Goult town square; La Bartavelle is a <5 minute walk. And call ahead for that reservation! Mark and Nadine Hays

Go early or make a reservation because this lovely patio restaurant (which offers inside dining) fills up quickly. We ordered seafood aiolo and creme of asparagus as appetizer, followed by white fish main and strawberry and rhubarb for dessert. All lovely in presentation and delicious.

we were there for lunch , they open service at non exactly , splendid view of valley from dining room , food was fantastic , entree , main dish = we took fish , and meat ( perfect ) dessert chocolat fantastic , red vine was very good and cheap , even one took ice cream very good perfume , overall price average, service was fast very friendly from the couple who owe the place

We code the restaurant after reading the good reviews and werenât disappointed.We experienced a warm welcome and amazing service. The two ladies in charge were flexible in the ingredients of the dishes (allergies and things we dislike), the food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely and all of this left us with great experience.

The stir fry was really a winter stew like a tagine spoilt by too much salt. Pasta was also salty. Itâs always a problem when the chef does not have good seasoning sense. The cod in paper was a good choice. Giant salad was a concoction with some good elements but average overall. I would say try the restaurants further up in the village.Dear Endometruim, salt, it's a real personal things, in france we say when you don't like salt you are not in LOVE...the veal stir fry, was made with some tomatoes from my own garden, eggplants, zucchini, sweet pepper... it's always a problem when some customers have no sense of seasonal produces... you're right try the restaurant up town, and enjoy !!!sincerely Yoha

A repeat visit for me, and ironically, 6 months ago in a review I complimented the restaurant on sensible pricing. Since then there has been a significant price hike!Food and service were excellent. Amuse bouche of beetroot purée with goats cheese, starter of asparagus with asparagus purée, slow cooked black pork, finishing with a double chocolate dessert. All superb.It is rare for me to comment on a restaurant's pricing, as I am usually happy to pay for quality food, but on this occasion the bill did come as a surprise. At 64 euros per head, (Starter 18 + Daily Special 35 + dessert 11 = 64) L'Arome is now getting a little expensive. I'm afraid this will drop L'Arome from being one of my regular options, to perhaps a special occasion venue, and as I live here year round and still eat out in November after the tourists have gone home, L'Arome will suffer!
