Es Castell (Spanish: Villacarlos) is a small municipality in eastern Menorca in the Balearic Islands, Spain. The town was founded in 1771 by British Col. Patrick Mackellar and was originally called Georgetown in honour of King George III; however, it takes its current name from the large fort nearby, known to the British as St. Philip's Castle. Col. Patrick MacKellar (Argyllshire 1717-1778) was the chief engineer of Menorca and his house today is known as Son Granot. Es Castell celebrates its Foundation Day on 1 June with 18th-century themed festivities, in which the Municipality itself, St. Philip's Castle Foundation, Son Granot and other institutions participate.

Very pleasant large tapas (4 dishes between 2} which were tasty, as well as unusual. Dishes were served one at a time with a small overlap. Hot as appropriate. Friendly and cheerful staff. Frequented by many locals. Pity about the outside seating being on a busy junction with a bus stop. Courgettes carpaccio with caramelised mango dressing with rocket and cashews with parmesan was particularly interesting. Good chocolate fondant with ice cream!

We ate here twice throughout our holiday but wished we hadnât returned the second time. The first time we were greeted by the owners daughter & quickly seated. The meal was ok & not expensive. We decided to try them again but booked in advance as itâs a tiny place of around 7 tables. Word of warning you need to book in advance for all the harbour restaurants as they fill up quickly after 8pm. The second time we arrived I just didnât feel our return business was welcomed, no real hello, how are you, thank you for returning. Nothing at all. As for the meal my chicken had far too much seasoning plus the fries even came heavily laced with sea salt so I pretty much only tasted salt throughout my meal which was a shame as the chicken was well cooked. The owners daughter seems pleasant enough, for me the older lady owner is the issue. She came across very cold with not a single smile for us when she took our order or throughout our meal. Because of this I simply would not return. I just got the impression she didnât value our custom and is simply going through the motions which for me isnât good enough. As the owner should she not have massive enthusiasm for her own venture? She was the same with everyone so it wasnât just us. Itâs a very tiny place but felt very unwelcome the second time. On a positive the gentlemen was nice & said bye to us. I also work in the service industry & we all get tired/jaded but I try to treat others how Iâd wish to be treated. Most people look forward to their holidays all year so maybe just a reminder to care for others a little more when they are spending their time/money with you. Maybe we caught them on a bad week so please do try them for yourself.

We booked for 14 people to celebrate my fathers 80th birthday.The food is excellent and the staff were very accommodating certainly one of the best Italians we have eaten at over the many years visiting Menorca.Will be returning for another visit before we go home.

Recommended by a friend. Fitted us in on Saturday night despite not booking (recommend). Food excellent sea bass superb. Staff very pleasant. English lady appeared to be the owner/manager performed with calm assurance with the help of one pleasant young man. Will definitely return before we leave.

Quite expensive, but was a lovely meal. Huge choice of fish on the menu. Portions were big. I had stir fried monkfish with onions and it was cooked really nicely, more delicate than I thought it would be. Gets very busy, need to book for dinner.

We went here based on the TA reviews and because we like tapas. Sadly, we arrived about 8:30pm and were told they didnât have a table, despite there being numerous vacant tables. Upon asking they said they were all reserved. I was offered a table about 30 minutes later but it would have been too late for us. Sad as I would have liked to have tried the food.

I think we were served by the owner and she was lovely, very friendly and helpful. Great outlook by the harbour. The food was a bit disappointing to me, it was very average I thought. I can't remember what we had now as it was a few weeks ago, but i'd hoped for better from the reviews. We were maybe spoilt as we had lunch at santa rita in Mahon, which is amazing!

Shopping nearby and looking for somewhere in/near Mahon for lunch and this was one of the ones that came up on TripAdvisor. It's not great looking from outside but the menu del dia sounded promising and as there were no seats available and locals waiting for tables we had to give it a go. 3 courses, wine and water for 2 and under â¬30. It was lovely. Juan served and guided us through the menu and his English put my Spanish to shame. Thank you to all that recommended this place, we'd never have found it otherwise. It's a short car journey from Mahon (about 4 minutes at most) but well worth it. If we weren't staying near Ciutadella we'd be back in a flash.

My wife and I had lunch here today and it was amazing. We had ham croquettes which were freshly made and probably the best I have had. We also had peppers stuffed with cod and my wife also had some scallops. Overall a fantastic tasting lunch and first class hosts. A must visit.Thank you very much

We were spoilt with this dish 2 years ago when Max had Acuario restaurant in Na Macaret - lobster, eggs & chips!! Just as good as we remember.
