Hunter Hideaway Cottages

Good location, reasonably priced but misleading in their advertisements

Reviewed By stephanietT2170UK

We spent a two night stay on the property, it is reasonably priced and the kitchen was well equipped however we definitely felt misled. On the website it showed the hermitage cottage had a fire place which was not borded up and looked very inviting to use, to our suprise we arrived at the hermitage and the fire place is completely borded up and unavailable for use, the cottage at night was freezing and the air conditioner only warmed the kitchen area. The carpeting on the floors in the lounge room and leading up to the bedroom have been so poorely done they look like floor mats, which move when you walk. We were given two pieces of firewood for 2 nights which wasn't sufficient for the firepit. The property doesn't seem very secure and neither were the locks on the door they were loose and you had to fiddle with them to lock them. If you are looking for a budget friendly trip with simple amenities, minimal security and warmth then this is your place to be. The best thing about this place was waking up and drinking coffee on the porch watching the kangaroos near by and being able to cook some home cooked meals.

Rustic Charm

Reviewed By grU3095MZ

We stayed in a one bedroom cottage over the Christmas weekend. The cottage was beautifully decorated with a rustic touch. The location is perfect with just a few minutes to Pokolbin and Cessnock and yet very quiet. The fridge was stocked with all the breakfast essentials. The cabins are spaced apart from each other providing adequate privacy from other guests. We would love to return for another stay and hopefully meet Paul, Rosie and Aussie :)

Must stay for privacy!

Kangaroos out the front and out the back from the bedroom window. Come on!!! Stayed here over the Christmas New Year period and had a amazing time. Tanya the host has exceptional cottages, clean tidy well equipped and perfect size. Breakfast provisions was a nice touch allowing you do to your own thing whilst staying there and not having to hustle along a line for an average buffet. The view of the vineyard from the front deck is so peaceful both from morning and afternoon sunset with a glass of shiraz from the vineyard itself. (Free in your room!!) Noise was very minimal from roads, animals, neighbours etc so perfect to just sit and relax back at the accommodation. Bathroom was huge, shower was great, spa bath was relaxing and plenty of towels provided. These are serviced cottages so once you check in you are left alone to enjoy every moment you have in the hunter. A must consider for everyone and we will be definitely booking again!

Olive Grove Cottages

Weekend away

Reviewed By Pauline Y

My husband and I just had an amazing weekend at Olive Grove Cottages, we stayed in cottage No. 3, which has been beautifully renovated to a very high degree. The lovely deep bath in the bedroom area was extremely indulgent as was the bathrobes and slippers. The owners Ruth and Chris were just lovely, and were very welcoming. The complimentary breakfast supplies were more than we could possibly want, not to mention complimentary port, chocolates, chilled white wine and cheeses were a great way to enjoy the lovely verandah area on our balcony, whilst watching the many kangaroos that came to visit. We would definitely recommend this cottage to everyone.

Fantastic location

Reviewed By debsterma

Took family who had never been to the Hunter region for a short break. We all absolutely loved the location and grounds of the cottage. We stayed in cottage no. 3. Clean, comfortable and pet friendly but you wouldn't know pets had previously stayed which was excellent. Property had everything you need including a good entertaining area outside. Host was wonderful as was the property manager and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend and we will definitely return. Tip: don't go out for dinner, eat at the house and watch the sunset and wildlife from the comfort of the cottage grounds.

Lovely setting close to the vineyards

Reviewed By CaptG77

The cabins are situated on a large peaceful property close to all of the Pokolbin and Lovedale vineyards in the Hunter Valley. It is also 1 minute from the Hunter Valley zoo which is very much worth the visit, especially for kids. Cabins/Villas are immaculately clean and very functional. The grounds are spacious and well maintained and the hosts very friendly, if they are needed. There is also a good sized pool. I would recommend for couples, small groups and young families.
