If you’re expecting luxury, do not stay here

Reviewed By pablo1216

Let me start off by saying I am not one to write reviews, as a self-proclaimed lazy person. This is probably the second or third time in my life I’ve had to collect the words to help anyone that may want to stay at this establishment. This is a “glamping” place, where supposed glamour and camping come to a pinnacle of outdoor luxury. By all accounts, it was neither glamorous, nor camping. To quickly summarize, if you’re expecting luxury do not stay here. I highly recommend Hoshinoya Fuji if you want real glamping in the Fuji area. Please continue reading for the specific accounts of my experience: • The first red flag was during check-in. As we walk up to our room, we see right in front of the outdoor deck is a 20-foot drop, and all I can say to describe it, is a cesspool with stagnant water, with water trickling into it. This, mind you, is the most expensive “suite” type room, running well over $1,000 USD a night. It’s downright deceitful, and when looking at their website, the picture of this room is taken at an angle that innocently cuts out this area and nowhere is it mentioned. The bathroom area is separated from the bedroom by the outdoor area, which means you need to go outside to go to the bathroom. The cleanliness of the room, furniture and amenities were very subpar. If someone found a hint of luxury, please let me know because I couldn’t find it. • The second is the lack of privacy, and most egregious, the attitude of the staff. Staff members come to your room without any notice and feel they can walk into the site freely. It was shocking. And when we tried to get one to come to our room when we actually needed them, the phone went unanswered. One staff walks into the middle of our BBQ dinner, opened up the grill without asking and says that we still have so much uneaten food and that our 2-hour time to BBQ was up. No one informed us that that a 2-hour BBQ time limit was a rule. He has the audacity to say that we were keeping him from going home! He then goes on to tell us that we aren’t allowed to continue eating and that the food must be thrown out. Some of the food was ordered shortly before he arrived. If we had known the time limit, we would have managed our time. This was unacceptable, so we decide to call the manager, but low and behold, that man was the MANAGER! • The third was the low-quality food. The tomahawk steaks looked cool, but the bite we had a chance to eat before being thrown away was not good. The next morning’s breakfast was something out of an economy class airline. Tasteless spam sandwich and children’s yogurt and apple juice box. Give me a break! In the end, we should have done some more research on this place. The parent company, FUJITA KANKO, runs business hotels, and obviously it is well over its head in this luxury glamping arena. It should stick to business hotels. And that “manager”, should go back to being a camp counselor.

Good summer resort for small kids as well

Reviewed By Osamu K

Enjoyed summer vacation with a grand daughter. Located at 1300m high so cool and calm. She loved to see many cows, goats, sheep, horses, etc at the Makiba Ranch nearby. Hotel food was excellent with lots of local fresh vesitables. Famous soft ice cream and milk were delicious. Pity not see various cheese at breakfast and dinner time. Room temp. without air conditioning was a litlle bit high at night. Anyway its a good place and want to revisit. Cheers,

Fun and convenient... For a price

Reviewed By Oliverransom

Great family place. "American" camping. They have everything you need... But everything costs. Great activities for the kids. We were there for Easter. Egg hunt, bingo, egg decorating. All the staff have "American" names and a few of them can actually speak English. Pros: They have everything you need to camp. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The store is stocked with everything you forgot to pack. Friendly staff. Pets are welcome. Canoes, paddle boats, activities. A dog run. Lots of fun for the family. We stayed in a "Georgia" cabin for one night and a "Louisiana" cabin for one night. Cons: everything costs. Some cabins have gas grills (gas is extra). Other cabins have charcoal grills (grill screen is extra). Activities cost (from 300¥~¥2000). Crowded (don't expect a tranquil time (but that's normal for Japan)). Really hard to get a reservation. We went in off off season and on a weekday and the place was full. I booked 6 weeks in advance and there was only 2 cabins available.

Reviewed By Clint-j-east
