Top 10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in New Hampshire, United States

April 19, 2023 Karren Gelb

If you are looking for diversity, you will certainly find it in New Hampshire. From lakes to beaches, waterfalls to woods and mountains to sea coast, the state has huge potential for outdoor vacations, including downhill or cross-country skiing in winter. With no less than seventy-five state parks that offer natural areas, hiking trails, beaches and historic sites, New Hampshire caters for a variety of tastes. Crawford Notch State Park in Harts Location has picturesque waterfalls, wonderful mountain views and opportunities for viewing wildlife. You can go hiking and fishing there as well as pay a visit to the historic Willey House. Monadnock State Park, unlike some other state parks, is open all year round for hiking. Want to go swimming? You will find five state park beaches along the coast of New Hampshire, such as Wallis Sands with its view of the rocky Isles of Shoals. On North Hampton State Beach and Jenness Beach you can have a picnic as well as a swim. When you've finally had your fill of fresh air, head for the Museum of New Hampshire History in Concord with exhibits focusing on heritage and traditions; children should enjoy them just as much as adults.

WE really enjoyed our stay and the Inn. The restaurant there is the best! We had a reservation for dinner on a Thursday evening and highly recommend it. The dining room is exceptional, and the staff is awesome and very accommodating. You get it all here from the ambiance to perfect craft cocktails with delicious appetizers [ we had the Calamari [, BEST EVER !!!] My husband ordered the haddock, and I had the lamb chops, and we weren't disappointed! WE also shared the cheesecake for desert and yes, we would do it all over again! Our sincere compliments to the Chef and all staff at the Christmas Farm Inn.

The Comforts of Home….

I thoroughly enjoyed my first stay at the Henry Whipple House. My room was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. I slept well, which really says it all. The comfort of my room was only outdone by the friendly proprietor and the wonderful breakfasts she prepared. Every morning I was greeted by locally roasted and freshly brewed coffee and a warm (just out of the oven) scone. This was followed by a choice of two breakfast entres which provided me with an amazing savory or sweet option. A selection of fruit juices were also available every morning. In addition to breakfast, there was always a variety of snacks available along with a selection of Nespresso pods to prepare a delicious cup of coffee in less than a minute. Just steps from my room was with a refrigerator stocked with a variety of cool beverages. The hospitality and comfort I experienced at The Henry Whipple House made me feel at home. I have already booked my next stay!

Dirtiest room I ever checked into anywhere in the world.

We checked in and the room was filthy. Dirt on the floor, dust on the furniture and the bedding was stained. Kitchen was full of breakfast dishes at 3:00 in the afternoon. Told the proprietor we wouldn’t be staying and he was incredibly rude. Didn’t really care. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.

We are ideally located close to Franconia Notch State Park, The Flume Gorge, The Lost River, Loon and Cannon Mountain ski areas, the Kancamagus Highway, and within a scenic drive to Mount Washinton and Squam Lake. We have numerous books about the local area in our living room that you may peruse as you sit by the gas fireplace enjoying your evening libations. Amazing place to stay

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Wilderness Inn. This place is wonderful. Our room, the Alaska Suite, is exactly as described on their website. We loved it. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a very nice size and the shower/tub was wonderful as well. We especially loved the attached sun porch. It was a comfortable place for morning coffee. The coffee station is located right outside the Alaska Suite so it was very convenient. There are also 2 refrigerators in this location for guests use. The breakfast is a great and delicious way to start your day. Coffee, fresh fruit, homemade muffins and your choice of entree. We tried just about all of them and they are all fantastic. There is a large entry porch which is a nice place to enjoy lunch, a snack or just sit and relax. The owners Karen and Alan are friendly and make you feel like you are part of a family, not just guests. They are very knowledgeable of the area and were fantastic at recommending restaurants to try. All were as good as they said they were. The deck is a nice place to sit and take in the views and peacefulness of the area. The Inn is located within walking distance to shops and restaurants. It is also a short drive to area attractions. This is a place we will definitely go back to. Thank you Karen and Alan for a wonderful stay. Cheryl and Tony C.
