We stayed at the campsite nearby (easy walking distance). We had no idea what kind of place this would be. After weeks of traveling through France and eating out, we have had our share of very average, dull, mediocre tourist places, where you can fill your stomach for too much money. Instead, this time we had a surprisingly excellent experience. The French menu card needed some additional explanation for us. There was enough to choose from, both fish and meat. The hostess assisted us in a friendly manner. The food is very original, in the combination of flavors, texture and colors. The looks and the taste of the food were a real treat for us. It felt like we were invited to a wonderful party. Applause for the chef/cuisinier! Price and quality were of in good balance. We had a great evening. It’s a place worth to make a detour for. They also offer hotel rooms.

Small hotel with great view of the ocean

Reviewed By ElocinIla

I had booked for 2 nights the "Chambre de charme - #2 Chambre double vue mer". I arrived one day earlier as planned and booked directly at the reception the last room available for the night, a small single room. The receptionist was friendly, helpful and showed me the room. It was very small, perfectly clean, comfortable bed but the downside was the noise from the other rooms. My room with the balcony was perfect, also very clean plus a modern bathroom and the lovely balcony (deck chair, small table and chair) with great view of the ocean. The walls in that part of the hotel must be different, as there was hardly any noise. I did not have breakfast or any other meal in the restaurant as the terrasse had been closed (outside the season apprently only serviced on the weekends) and I wanted to sit outside.

Disappointing welcome!

We phoned the property the morning of our arrival to ask for availability, which they had. We were asked to make the reservation through their booking system, which we did on our telephone. We came from the Loire area and did arrive around 14.00 hours. At the gateway Catherine (owner) told us in a pretty rude way that we were not welcome before 17.00 hrs. This we should have known because it is mentioned in the PDF of the booking confirmation. You will find it in a document on page 4 of the 12 PDF pages. We didn’t see this as we were glad we could read the main confirmation on our phone. We asked if we could use the pool or drop some of our luggage, this was not possible. With some vague remarks about Covid - 19 and cleaning we were send off. We completely understand that Covid-19 is a serious matter but as a host you should first welcome your guests and than explain they cannot enter the property. Which is in my opinion already a strange situation. Furthermore, on departure day you have to leave the property at 10.30. It would have been convenient if arrival and departure times were mentioned properly at the reservation form. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and well maintained. We had a nice room at the first floor with a spacious terrace. The wc and bathroom are on the corridor for our own use. The guesthouse is very well organized, and that’s also an issue, you never had the feeling you were welcome and free to move. Every single thing has its own spot on the property and it feels that the maintenance of the property is more important than the guests. My partner and I worked for many years in the touristic industry and travelled a lot. We both wish that Catherine and Bastien can loosen up and relax a bit, cause the property is worth it.

A comfortable B&B in a pretty walled town.With parking

When touring by car, it's important to have somewhere safe for the car at night, and it not often easy to find that in a small walled town. We found it at la Guerandiere, a magnificent former merchant's house right on the walls of Guerande, Our room was not huge but it was beautifully decorated, very clear and well supplied with tea/coffee and more. Breakfast was provided in the period conservatory overlooking the garden, and as it was actually raised up you could look into the street. It was close to the salt pans and the wonderful birdwatching area that is La Briere, so we counted ourselves very lucky to have found such a convenient and charming place to stay.

A quiet room, comfortable beds. Very good French breakfast !! The restaurant was closed. We were emailed only a few hours before arrival. A surprise dinner was served in the room, but we had to microwave it ourselves. And that spoils a nice dinner.

We had a lovely week at La Villa d’Escoublac. Céline is a very warm, friendly and attentive host. The rooms, pool and all common areas are spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated - and the breakfast is delicious. We felt very well looked after and « safe » - in this particularly trying year for everyone. Can thoroughly recommend.
