Top 10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Hanoi, Vietnam

May 3, 2023 Franklyn Hardiman

The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside. Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon," but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi.

I'm surprised at seeing all the reviews. Perhaps the other guests did not stay at the room we had! It was the first time where we had to squeeze ourselves through the shower door just to get into the shower. We're not very skinny people :) The WC was blocking the shower door which opens outwards. Lucky we swapped rooms with our parents otherwise they won't be able to use the shower. The room we were assigned to was really narrow, a queen bed with barely any walking space beside it so you literally have to climb in from the foot of the bed! It was good for a night's stay. Lucky the bed was comfy. The best thing about this place were the staff and the owner. They were really hospitable and they were really good because they had to put up with someone else in our travel group who can be very fussy. They went all the way to make sure you are comfortable and can arrange tours for you around the area as the owner also runs a tour agency. Very convenient! We explored the area outside the hotel. There were shops selling flowers and some shops selling CNY decor. We didn't venture far as it was dark and too many motorcycles zooming around. There were a few restaurants around the area serving authentic vietnamese food. Pho bo nearby the hotel was great! There's also a convenience store further down the road. The breakfast was good. We stayed at this hotel again when we returned back from Sapa. They allowed us to use a room to freshen up after spending a night on the sleeper train. Price is very very reasonable so if you are on a budget, this is recommended just make sure you book the bigger room. I'd recommend staying at the owner's other hotel nearby the church. That location is way more central and there are many shops around the area.

WARN! Rebook if you can

We moved, after 1 night, for a better place and less expensive. So price is not the main issue here. Cleanness is. The hotel facilities are very POOR and the room was VERY DIRTY. All the photos posted here and in Booking.com are a real scam, as you can see from my photos dated from 11.12.2020. The breakfast not bad and the staff was friendly, but didn't do much to solve our problems. Hence, I am giving 2 and not 1.

BEWARE THIS HOTEL RUNS A SCAM!

Reviewed By 955kalyanr

Beware, this hotel is a scam! My family and I "stayed" in this hotel in December 2019 and our experience was appalling and one of the worst in our entire history of overseas holidays. Like the average traveler we extensively researched the vast majority of our hotels and trips, but the last proportion of our trust as customers is placed in the integrity of staff members and the accuracy of photos. I must firstly dispel the photos submitted on google and online. The rooms are not as large as they seem and the views are captured from the uppermost floor of their top tier suite. This is not the view you will be greeted with for the majority of their rooms. However the biggest issue is the scam of a business that they seem to be running. We were welcomed with juices and moist towelettes and everything seemed too good to be true. It was after a few minutes of small talk that the employer revealed that our room was unavailable and that they would be moving us to another hotel further down the street. Now THANK GOD we had the foresight to buy a travel sim at the airport and thus had mobile data to search up both room availabilities and the other "supposed hotel". That hotel was a 2 star horrendous joke of a hotel. They then tried bargaining with us. That's right bargaining for a room that we had already prepaid well in advance for. After we stood our foot down and said that we did not want to go to this other hotel, they miraculously said that our room was indeed available. Everything that had transgressed so far was dodgy to say the least. The hotel manager took us to "our room" but in actual fact it was one of their lowest basic rooms. They tried to manipulate the situation and say that the room we booked had 4 beds and that this room also had 4 beds. However, we brought up bookings.com and showed them the proof that this room was not what they claim it to be. We then returned to the reception and wasted more hours arguing and trying to resolve a problem that never should have existed. On bookings.com and their website our rooms were still available to be booked! They had no explanation for that at all! We finally had to downgrade and get two separate rooms (effectively breaking our family apart) in the interim and were only given our originally booked room 2 days into our 4 day trip. This effectively ruined our trip! We hated the way we were treated by the whole hotel and all staff except for a lovely bell boy who helped us late in the night with our room lock. When we left the hotel, they actually tried to bribe us and ask us for a better review as they were a new hotel. Please be careful. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION: Read all the reviews. Our experience is not unique. It has happened to many before and it appears to be a scam. Please be very careful and try to avoid this hotel at all costs.

Excellent room, fine service

Reviewed By BillTuckerUS

We were on the back side of the hotel, with a window - sufficient space for the two of us. Very comfortable bed; modern, well-appointed bath. The windows are modern, "German" style, double-pane and double-hinged. This didn't matter much in September, but it would matter in the blistering heat of Hanoi's summer or the frigid cold of its winter. Breakfast was excellent for Western tastes (eggs, meat/sausage) and Asian ones (noodle soup, stir-fried veggies). This was our third stay with Eclipse hotels in Hanoi, and we'll be back.

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night.. it was advertised at booking.com with a 9.6 and beautiful pictures. When we arrived, we found a small, dirty room with a hard bed, dirty towels and a defect aircon.. So disappointing. On top of that the balcony which they advertised was only a hallway that we shared with other hotel guests to come to our room.. When we checked out, we were ‘bought of’ with a discount of 100.000VND if we would agree that they would cancel our booking. We now realise that this means that we cannot leave a bad review on booking.com I now read that someone got charged twice due to this cancellation, but I checked out this morning, so let’s hope that doesnt happen to me…
