Excellent luxury hotel for Autumn leaves and

Reviewed By Meh_things

Returned from autumn holidays from tohoku and one of the highlights from the trip was the luxurious hospitality, comfort and stunning food from the hotel. The hotel itself is located just at the foot of the hachimantai mountain where the gorgious matsukawa (松川) gorge is and where the jukai (树海) drive starts. 5 mins drive will get you the mesmerising autumn leaf walk that will kick start your autumn adventures. The hotel itself spots a lucious onsen with option to be at the open air section. Alternatively, one can opt for a room with private bath tube made of cyprus wood and enjoy the same bath in the privacy of your room. The hospitality is almost butler like. The food is luxurious both in portions and quality. Let the photos tell the story. Unique to the hotel is the tofu and onsen egg bowl. Again, let the photos tell the story. Overall, it is one of the most luxurious stays in our stay in japan over the years.

Seiryukaku

For Japanese, the bath is not only a place to clean our body, but also to relax and restore our energy for the next day. You know there are a lot of hot springs(onsen) in Japan. But our Onsen is very SPECIAL and RARE. Spring quality is “強塩泉“ (sodium - chloride STRONG saline springs) As this type of hot springs has a high moisturizing effect, they are effective for warming the body as well as for skin disease. Stay Japnese style room, Have Japanese style cuisine, and Experience SPECIAL ONSEN!! We always welcome you!

If you really wanna enjoy your trip in HACHIMANTAI, you definitely should stay at this hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly and their hospitality is just amazing. The room I stayed at was with tatami room, sofa and comfortable beds. I found the bed covers were made in Iwate. The food was from Hachimantai and Iwate. That's why the dishes were really fresh and delicious. Awesome on everything!

Ikoinomura Iwate

Comfortable stay and great service

Reviewed By Paul F

As someone who speaks little to no Japanese, I was a little concerned when my company placed me a Ryokan out in the country. My concerns turned out to have no basis. Several of the staff spoke enough English to accommodate me. The service at Ikoinomura is outstanding. Dining staff were very attentive and always courteous, and they always recognized me. The front desk staff treated me like a special guest, even when the lobby was quite busy. They have a courtesy shuttle that gave me a lift to and from work every day, which was thankfully only 5 minutes away by car. The food was quite good, and I thought there was a good variety. My room was a mixed Japanese/Western room, and it was very spacious. In America, I would call it a suite, as it actually had several rooms. I was very comfortable in the Western bed. I think next time I will try the Japanese futon out. The bath in my room was far better than any bath I have experienced before. It is deep and the water gets very hot, so that I could enjoy a sauna in my room. So any time I didn't feel like walking across the hotel to the hot springs, I could still enjoy a nice bath. Fair warning to fellow travelers though: the heated air system is turned off every night at 23:30 and turns back on at 06:00 for energy savings. I wasn't prepared for that the first night and it came as a surprise. However, the bedding is quite thick, so it is not difficult to stay warm in bed. The natural hot springs are excellent. Plenty of seated shower stalls for cleaning up, two large hot spring baths (one with air jets and one without), and a cold bath. I have never felt so rejuvenated. The location and grounds are also beautiful, so I think this is a good destination any time of year. The Obuke station of the IGR rail line is about 15 minutes away by car, so even a taxi ride would be inexpensive if the hotel shuttle is not available.

Very pleasant stay!

Reviewed By CKP02

We stayed one night in this boutique onsen hotel and we like it very much. The check-in process was very smooth and our room was in good size for 2 persons. A small private in-door onsen was inside the room as well. We were very happy that air-con was provided as most Japan onsen hotels don’t provide air-con in spring time. After we settled our luggage, we decided to walk around and explore the rest of the hotel. During the walk we found lots of beautiful decorative items in every corner, we like them very much! Although the private onsen inside the room was a bit small but the water was smooth and clear, it did washed away all our tiredness. The dinner was served inside the room, every dish was delicious except the abalone was very hard! Anyway, we had a good sleep for the night as the bed was clean and comfortable. The next day breakfast was also very tasty. We will sure come back if we re-visit this area again!

A really unique experience

Reviewed By riaskaya

Right away I’ll say that those looking for a luxury hotel style onsen experience should move on. For anyone who’s actually interested in an authentic stay, I couldn’t recommend this more. We had an en-suite room which means toilet and sink, since there’s no point to having a private shower at an onsen. Tons of extra blankets and bedding, as well as a cozy small lamp, robes, jackets, and adorable “spa” baskets with toiletries were provided. The onsen itself is really natural, no frills. There are multiple pools outside, which are women-only for an hour in the evening. Otherwise they’re mixed. I think there’s one pool that remains women-only all the time. Mixed is an interesting experience since it requires significantly more modesty from women than it does of men, but I suppose that’s part of the “cultural learnings”. Women need a bathing suit or a towel to cover fully both top and bottom. Men just need a “modestly towel” which is a teeny towel that many use.... “symbolically” only. There’s silky hot mud in the pools, water temps vary. There’s also a pool in each of the male/female washing houses. Food is spectacular. We’re vegan which is a challenge outside of main cities. Here however we had no problem. Tons of vegetables at the buffet. One of the nights dinner was served kaiseki style and when we set aside what we couldn’t eat they went out of their way to make us extra dishes (we didn’t ask!) So, while I’m sure we unknowingly ingested some fish-based product, we were stunned at the array of dishes that were clearly vegetarian/vegan. Breakfast is not anything western, but they did have eggs and yogurt. The manager was so kind and concerned about us! He checked in to make sure we got our heater working since The temperature was going to drop overnight. He came by to make sure we drove back before the crazy thunderstorm hit. He came by the table to make sure we took soup, brought rice and treated us with some Asahi. I’m sure we got some extra care being westerners - perhaps they don’t get many foreign visitors, but it was clear that he was concerned about the other guests as well, always checking in. We only did one hike in the area since we wanted to enjoy the onsen and bad weather was rolling in. But the hike was fairly easy, albeit wet due to snow, and the reward was 360 views of mountains. Stunning. In all, a fantastic experience. As for things to note: 1. The heater runs on kerosene which definitely has a smell. It got below freezing overnight on one of our two nights so we used it for a couple of hours before falling asleep and the room kept pretty comfortable 2. Take off any silver jewelry. The sulfur oxidized mine instantly. 3. The cold water in the faucets also has some crazy mineral content so watch your eyes!!! 4. There’s nothing else around and it’s an hour drive to get anywhere outside of trails. Breakfast and dinner are included but for lunch you’re on your own. They have limited snacks for sale. I’m sure if you ask they’d make something for you, but check the weather especially before you head up and see if it’s a good idea to stock some snacks/non perishable food.

Comfortable Stay

Reviewed By TanSS

The bus ride from East Exit of Morioka Station took about 2hrs. There are no pit stops so be prepared. We booked the only room with western bed. It was expensive @ ¥17,500pp. Room was larger n comfortable but was disappointed/surprised the toilet was not fitted with the typical bidet. There’s no attached bath. Food was good but nothing to rave about. Location was good for exploring Hachimantai and hike the numerous trails. The staff were extremely hospitable and helpful. Will be back with appropriate footware to hike the trails to the mountain tops next to the ryokan.
