Our favourite restaurant at Appi Grand Hotel. Not hard to frequent it almost daily during our week stay at the resort. Service was exceptional with attentive & polite staff. Special thanks to Fukuoda-San who literally took out her translator phone to help explain the menu in English.
Breakfast was a set meal, with other condiments offered as buffet style (drinks, Appi yoghurt & milk, tinned (IXL or Golden Circle?!!) fruits, fresh tofu, porridge).
Set meals seem to be the diners' preference, so were the local grilled specialties -Maesawa beef (absolutely delicious as they melted in the mouth) and local pork & chicken. Possibly organic with the local farms supplying the produce! Snow crab legs were the obvious choice for Orientals but we preferred the crab meat salad instead.
Our favourite picks were from the a la carte menu (izakaya style) which suited our enjoyment with the local Iwate sake (Asabiraki Yui No Ka & Nambu Bijin). Simple deep fried & grilled pork loin, 3 kinds of tofu, carpaccio salad with salmon, salad with local deep fried chicken, sashimi, fried globefish, all absolutely delicious. No dessert menu was sighted so we strolled to the hotel shop for Appi Farm ice cream for a mere ¥300 each. Coffee flavoured was our choice!

この辺りはほうれん草の栽培が盛んな場所だというので、ほうれん草カレーを注文してみました。ココナッツの入ったタイ風のグリーンカレーです。タイカレーはあまり好きではありませんが、ここのは食べやすくておいしかったです。カレーに負けてしまい、ほうれん草の味はほとんどしません。

They were all freat from salad to special lunch dishes. Those ingredients are from their farms, even the pork is from Hachimantai. The staffs' hospitality was so good. It was like I was in a fancy decent restaurant.
Just keep in mind that this restaurant opens only at lunch time, 11:00 - 17:00.
Wednesdays closed.

美味しいと聞いていた前沢牛のハンバーグを注文。

There is great food here. They serve very generous portions that won't break the bank. Cheaper than other places in town, but still has great food with great portions. This restaurant reminds me of the countryside diners in Canada. The English menu here made it super easy to order food as well.

A 5 min walk from the JR Obuke Station where the night tour bus from Appi Grand Hotel dropped us off. The restaurant is located on a side lane. It is only a small traditional Japanese shop with 6-8 counter seats & 3 small tables.
The restauranteur only spoke Japanese. We ordered ramen and took a punt on what was offered! He scooped a big ladle of ready broth into a hot wok with minced garlic and boiled the ramen in another pot of boiling water. Cooked the ramen al dante by pinch testing, then rationed equally into the bowls. Hot seasoned broth was poured into the cooked ramen, topped with sliced pork and garnishing. All simply and beautifully executed as we watched across the counter.
It opens from 6pm for dinner and closes when the special broth is sold out. Early dinner was our preferred time as smoking diners tend to arrive at peak time.
Bowl of ramen was satisfying, especially in cold weather. The special broth tasted delicious and wholesome.
Cost approx ¥1100 for 2ppl.

The atmosphere in Takahashi is very Japanese, it would be a great spot for foreigners to visit to get a feel for a traditional restaurant. There is lots of wooden walls and decoration that breaks up the restaurant into separate rooms. There are private tatami rooms to eat in as well as a diner type room. The food here is also delicious. I had a pork fillet meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. For about 1000 yen, the meal had about 5 plates, was presented elegantly and tasted delicious.

ハンバーグをいただきました。手作りのとってもとってもおいしいハンバーグで大満足です。昭和を思わせるお店の雰囲気も落ち着けます。このあたりに来たらまたぜひお邪魔したいです。

食堂とは書いておりますが、焼肉屋？鍋屋？鍋がオススメそうなんですが、6月ということもあり焼肉を食べながら、ご飯にしておきました。つけたタレがとても美味しいです。ホルモンはふっくらで弾力があり、ホルモンの甘みもしっかり味わえます。カルビも赤みが多く、脂身の空きがなく美味しいです。なかなかのB級ですよ！
今度は鍋そして中華そばも、チャレンジしてみたいなぁ〜

We had a good time in here with lovely pancakes and Coffee Ammitsu : a Japanese parfait with ice cream, sweet brownbeans, jelly cubes, and some fresh fruits.
The atmosphere was sweet and cozy. So many sumo wrestlers used to go eat there. You can see their autographs.
