Great place enroute to Santander.

Reviewed By aboonm

A perfect stopover on our way to Santander. The room was clean, comfortable and a good size with a lovely bathroom en-suite. It’s very close to the A66, but also extremely quiet. I would recommend this hostal. The owner was friendly and helpful.

Pension Carretero

Pension Carretero, located in the Plaza Mayor of Caceres, former town square of the town, center of the so-called "new neighborhood" that has been formed from the Reconquista until the 19th century around the walled Ciudad Antigua, a monumental complex in which the traveler will find treasures of art and history. The Pension is housed in a building from the beginning of the 20th century with large balconies from which you can enjoy a privileged view, not only of the events that take place in the square (processions, festivals, etc.) but also for enjoy in advance the monastic and chivalric Caceres in the view of the towers and ancient buildings crowned by the silhouettes of the storks. Completely renovated in January 2012, it has heating and free Wi-Fi throughout the boarding house.

The view, not the thin walls

Reviewed By soundsverygood

This is a basic and old style type of accommodation, set on the main square and with a certain character to it.. The walls are thin and the bed wasn't the most comfortable we have encountered. The bathrooms are shared, but there were few guests and so we had sole use of the one opposite us. Two towels and four sachets of cleaner were provided. TV is in a communal lounge, but we didn't try it. Check in and our was a breeze with no English spoken but plenty of smiles and an efficiency many a chain hotel could learn from. The wifi was very fast. The place was clean. Very clean. Our room opened on to the Plaza Mayor and looked directly across to the old town - priceless. The old town deserves a couple of nights. Once for a quick walk through, and then again in the morning starting slowly after finding a place to eat. The slower you walk, the more it rewards. There are so many places to eat from snack bars to Atrio with its two choice menu. Stay here, save money on accommodation and spend it on food and sightseeing. Leave with a smile from the host.

Nice Room, but Weak, Unstable WiFi

Friendly staff, a nice hostel. But no lockable lockers that I could find. Nothing much around the hostel. Prior to arrival I tried to contact Albergue las Veletas but it does not have an email address on its website. Only contactable by telephone, not helpful when you need bus station transfer directions. When I finally received the emailed directions through my booking site, I was told to take a bus to a particular stop, and then 'we are just 5 minutes from there'. '5 minutes?' What, North? South? East? Up? Down? I arrived during rain showers and had to scramble to find this hostel and arrived there soaking wet. WiFi: was just ONE NOTCH Above Poor, Weak, unstable signal, one device not able to connect at all. Complete all time sensitive online tasks before checking into Albergue las Veletas

Tacky decoration not enough practical things

Reviewed By jlbhod

Pros. Very cute...but....Great location just outside the old quarter - 5-minute walk. Nice to use the kitchen - fully equiped. Abled to park free in the neighborhood. Next to bullring. Cons: a bit over-valued for what you get. Selling point was "la casa pintada". Stickers are cute but serve no purpose. Some looked like they were peeling off. Not enough detail into putting quality. Sofa cushions didn't match the sofa; looked more like mattresses. Huge living space. The room in the living room had a strange "closet" that doesn't serve any purpose. Cleaning could be better: Dust in the vents. Side lamp in bedroom looks cheap and broken. Don't open window, smelled of garlic - neighbors cooking(?). Bed was comfy but sheets were not crispy white. Bathroom roomy but my friend took cold shower after us. It's a good self-catering apartment but not all that wonderful. Everything looked and felt cheap for such an expensive place.

Best location

Reviewed By mireio75

The location is what is best about this hotel. A few steps and you are in the Plaza Mayor and by the entrance to the medieval city. I had a quiet inside room with basic furnishings. If you can get it when they have the special price around $45.00. it is a good deal. Continental breakfast is included but not good. Even the coffee was undrinkable. I ended up having my breakfast elsewhere. It is a family run hotel and they take turns at the concierge desk. However, if you get the mother, do not expect any helpful advice from her.
