Top 10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Alaska, United States

April 18, 2023 Merry Kessler

Alaska is divided into five regions: far north, interior, southwest, south central, and inside passage. Although it takes a long time to see the entire state, you can travel through the regions by boat, car, bus, or plane. Hike through the mountains, or venture out on a deep sea fishing or whale watching excursion. Get in touch with nature by camping in the wilderness, or experience your preferred degree of class and luxury in the beautiful, active cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks.

I stayed here for one night on my drive up to Alaska from Oregon. The room was very comfortable, clean, and the owner who welcomed me was very hospitable. I also like how it’s tucked in a quiet neighborhood away from the highway. I enjoyed my stay, and will return again soon!

Step back in time to the days of the gold rush

Reviewed By OMB-TheOldMan

My wife and I visited Skagway toward the end of May, 2022. Our lodging for 2 nights was The Historic Skagway Inn. Their website includes a floor plan for the rooms at the Inn. We stayed in Alice's room. We arrived in Skagway via Alaska Seaplanes from Juneau. Karl, the innkeeper, picked us up at the airport and drove us to the inn. The Historic Skagway Inn is decorated to take you back to the days of the Klondyke Gold Rush. Our room was spacious, could sleep four and overlooked Broadway. Our room included a bathroom. A few rooms don't have a bathroom. Guests in those rooms use one of two shared bathrooms down the hall. Breakfast is served in Olivia's Alaskan Bistro, an adjoining building to the inn. The breakfasts were very good. Karl cooked pancakes and sausage one morning and quiche and sausage the next. Of all the places we stayed on our two week vacation to Alaska's Inside Passage, this was by far the most economical. I highly recommend staying at The Historic Skagway Inn while in Skagway. And definitely try to stay in Alice's room.

We stayed here for 2 nights and reserved the suite in the main lodge. It was very large with a private bath . Both hosts , Kathy and Christie , were superb. They offered use of their full kitchen and offered suggestions of where to dine in town . They also allowed us to use their washer and dryer to refresh our laundry. Beware that this lodge is a ways from town so a vehicle is needed . Also beware that some descriptions of the resort say it is a bed and breakfast and since Covid , no breakfast is served . Our room was very clean and neat . We would definitely stay here again .

Private clean getaway with fabulous view!

Reviewed By Martha C

Recently having spent 6 nights in Seward, I was more than pleased with my accommodations! I requested the 2nd floor knowing it didn't have an elevator but wanted a private view of the mountains which is exactly what I got! (Room 204) The queen bed was very comfy, the large bathroom and closet were an added bonus! I wished there had been shelving in the closet for some of my clothes. The full kitchen was a must as I did not eat out often, and there was a decent supply of cookware, etc. The added amenities such as coffee, filters, ziplock bags, and even toilet paper were a great bonus, and I contributed to some of the basic supplies being a condo owner knowing how appreciated the extras are when you are on vacation. Since it is relatively new, I am assuming they are going to add a sign on the road otherwise you wouldn't know where your turn is without maps on your phone! I also wish there had been a bit more lighting besides the overhead, but there was a wall light with a book light for guests which was helpful. I will also add that the numbers on the room are hard to read, and I spotted other guests having a hard time reading the numbers as well so just thought I'd mention that! The lodge was less than 10 minutes from downtown Seward so it was an easy drive into town. The owner John was very friendly and on site often, and I loved seeing his 2 dogs enjoying the beautiful area! I would 100% recommend The Spruce Lodge and will stay there again next time I'm in Seward!

Great customer service

Reviewed By OMB-TheOldMan

My wife and I visited Sitka at the end of May, 2022. Our lodging for 2 nights was Eagle Bay Inn. We arrived in Sitka via Alaska Seaplanes from Juneau. Miranda from the inn picked us up at the airport and drove us to the motel. The motel is part of a strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside. But the friendly, welcoming staff on the inside is what makes Eagle Bay Inn special. Vicki, the energetic manager, showed us a room on the first floor and another room on the second floor. We chose spacious room #16 on the second floor, overlooking the front parking lot. It actually had two rooms. It was a suite. The lobby of the inn has a kitchenette that is stocked with coffee, orange juice, bagels & cream cheese, jellies, yogurt, donuts, cookies, apples and cherry turnovers. The Eagle Bay Inn is a short walk to both the Raptor Center and the Sitka National Historic Park. A Blue Line bus stop is just a minute walk from the lobby. We used the Blue Line bus to get within a block of the Fortress Of The Bears. After checking out the bears, we took a 5 mile bus ride and walked around downtown Sitka. Several times throughout the day, an eagle would be perched at the top of a tree visible from our room. Just across the road from the inn is a rocky beach with great views of the water and mountains. At the end of our visit to Sitka, Miranda took us to the airport. After sitting a while waiting for our plane, a person at the checkout counter asked us if we were missing a cell phone. Sure enough, my wife had left her cell phone in our room at the Eagle Bay Inn. Miranda found it while cleaning the room, called the airport and then drove back to the airport to hand deliver it to my wife. Name me another motel/hotel that would do that. THAT is customer service at it's best. Another Tripadviser review mentioned constant traffic in and out of the strip mall. Our room was on the front of the building but traffic didn't seem excessive or bother us.

Economical hotel, located just outside of downtown

Reviewed By TravisTripper

This hotel has private rooms but shared bathrooms. The rooms are clean and there is wifi. The beds are comfortable. The staff is friendly and checking in and out is efficient. The curtains aren't really sufficient to keep out Alaska's sunlight across the long hours, or the artificial lights around the hotel. Also, the walls are thin and you can hear everyone moving in the central hallway. Fortunately, during my stay there were no loud people out there after midnight.

Great location; close to airport

Reviewed By Donna E

The breakfast provided was a wide variety and plenty. The common area for the kitchen and living room was nice with a few "tables for two" and a fireplace, a few games, and tea/hot chocolate. We never met the hosts, but didn't feel a need to as they made sure we were well provided for. There is a separate kitchen area in the basement (there are 3? bedrooms down there), but I think that is for staff; not sure. Our room was in the basement. It was strange in that you walked into the bathroom first, then through that was the bedroom. Not a real problem unless your spouse is on the toilet and you want to get into the room and the door is locked. Also, the toilet and shower (and sink) are on a bit of a platform, so you need to step up to use them. Not a big deal; just out of the ordinary. Carpet could use replacing.

B&B and a view

Reviewed By Ra6907

We live in Talkeetna and still my wife and I will take a trip up the hill for an unobstructed view of the Aurora and wildlife out behind at least a few times a year. No TV, but there is internet. The rooms are comfortable, the shared bath is setup well. The owners live just off the property and are very gracious hosts. The view of the mountains is impeccable. Be sure to enjoy the “b&b” made fresh every morning (blueberry and banana bread).
