Lao Bei Fang Dumpling House

After hearing hype about this Hole-in-the-wall, i travelled here from manhattan to sample the dumplings. at 5pm, there were maybe 2 tables occupied, and no line whatsoever. the staff were not that good at speaking english, although they were friendly enough and did try their best. i ordered the pork and leek dumplings and a steamed bun. the bun was pointless, it wasn't disgusting, but had no flavor whatsoever, and was soggy. the dumplings were a little thick-skinned and greasy, but overall delicious, especially with the burnt chili oil. the atmosphere was simple, but nice enough and very clean. the dumplings were very delicious, but were not a revelation, and better dumplings exist in standard restaurants, like hot kitchen. it seems a little pointless to come if you do not live close by

came here on recommendation from a friend. Nice cozy place located in a practically residential neighborhood. Food was good; one of the better tasting pad thai dish we've tasted. also good was the tom yum soup with chicken, just spicy enough to make you perspire a bit but very tasty.not really worth a trip, lot of great Thai restaurants around, but would recommend if you're in the area.

Arunee Thai

Really great food. I liked them in their old location 1 avenue away but their current location on 37th avenue is so much better for their business. The new joint is hip and modern-looking, something that would be in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The food here is authentic and their Guay Tieao Kee Mao noodles (pad kee mao noodles) are divine. I have eaten at many Thai joints around the city and many of the other versions of this dish are terrible compared to Arunee's rendition. It can get fairly busy during the weekends. I called to see if I could place an order during Friday at 830pm and the woman said it would be at least 45 minutes. Well it is that good! I am so thankful for some authentic and fairly inexpensive, good food at Arunee Thai!

Great food and cocktails. We had no reservation, waited about 30 minutes - had a drink next door to pass the time. Food is fresh and delish, really enjoyed the vibe and left very very full.

Finding this postage-stamp sized little place takes some effort, but I would urge you to do it. First, it seems to have two different names with "Lhasa Fast Food" being the one I see most often, but if you do a Google search for "Lhasa Fast Food" it will bring forth a listing with a link to their Facebook/website and when you go to their site, their name is written as "Lhasa Tibetan Restaurant." When you physically go to their address, you won't see their restaurant from the sidewalk. Look for a mobile electronics store at the address and you'll see a little glassed-in corridor alongside the store -- follow that to deliciousness! The restaurant itself is, as I mentioned, really tiny but super clean and welcoming. We were lucky enough to find an empty table as we were there at sort of a less popular time. I would guess that you could seat roughly a dozen people here. There are a few quotes and a photo of the Dalai Lama on the walls. We came for momos (dumplings), chicken specifically, and my hubby ordered at the counter, picked up some cans of soda from the case and we sat down. All I can tell you is they were just scrumptious! If, like me, you are new to Tibetan food and momos, but are familiar with Chinese dumplings I would describe momos as sort of a hybrid between a soup dumpling and a dim sum dumpling. They are larger than a soup dumpling with less broth in them and a thicker dough. I prefer momos to either of the aforementioned more familiar dumplings. You can eat them with chili sauce, dried chili flakes, soy sauce (or all three, I guess!). The only downside to eating here is that when we asked for a restroom my husband was pointed down the hall and to the right. Eventually we found another corridor going behind a jewelry store leading to a grungy door where a handwritten sign said "out of order." So we had to go elsewhere. I would very much return for more momos and give other dishes a try, just making sure to have a restroom plan for someplace else!

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit ( again )The food is outstanding and the staff is the best. I brought my daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. We tried another restaurant that we also like, but because of a new grandson in a stroller they were unable to accomodate us. KITCHEN 79had the perfect spot. I visit once a month, but we haven't been to K79 un 3 or 4 months. The staff remembered us and really made us feel at home. I am not a Thai expert, but I followed their recommendations and had a delicious meal. Go there !

Worth the trip to Elmhurst Queens to sample the richly flavored Thai dishes served in this small, local restaurant. Our fave: spicy, limey Larb (with ground pork). Fabulous fried red snapper with papaya salad and anything with Penang curry are also memorable. We hear they have a location at the Chelsea Market in Manhattan but haven’t checked it out yet. The chef in Queens is good enough for us!
