My wife and I stayed in one of the Queen rooms with a bath in room. The room itself was quite compact, but so smartly laid out, it didn't really matter. Everything was very clean and the fact that the bed is up on a platform, really improved the sleeping experience. No saggy mattress and we both slept great! For being so centrally located, the room was also very quiet. We stayed over a weekend and were only 1 flight up from the lobby. So we should have been able to hear street noise from outside or sounds from the bar in the lobby . . . but we didn't! Excellent sound proofing and blackout shades in the room provides a great, restful sleep! The location can't be beat! An easy walk from Back Bay station and to a bunch of Cafes and Restaurants in the Back Bay made this a super easy and convenient spot. Next time I have to travel to Boston, this hotel is going to be the first one I check for reservations!

What was meant to be a stress free celebration of commencement, the billing has been impossible from beginning to end. Firstly my credit card wasn't accepted, being a foreigner the bank was closed in my home country so check in was not permitted even though a cash alternative was offered. My daughter (student) had a holding deposit placed on her card of $2000. To get this removed and put onto a different card has been impossible. Charges were however put through on the new credit card immediately and they have since overcharged by $1000 which is still trying to be sorted out. Has dampened our entire experience of commencement celebrations !!!!

The Rugosa

The Rugosa, historically known as “The Penny House Inn” is a gorgeous, 10 room guest house with a beautiful, private back yard, gardens, a sunny patio seating area and a separate cottage with a fully handicapped accessible family suite. Entirely redecorated, this traditional, antique New England home has been transformed with colorful paintings, folk art, found objects and houseplants! Visitors of the Rugosa are welcome to enjoy the spacious backyard and patio area, lounge in the great room, utilize the dining room for nights where you just want to escape the crowds and stay in, or join us in Chuck’s Lounge with our newly renovated bar. We are offering complimentary coffee and tea, but hope to be able to offer other breakfast options again in the future. With many great restaurants and cafes in the area, guests may choose to eat out or enjoy take-out in our public dining room or outdoor patio. Guests are often pleased with the location of the Rugosa, as it is near many loved attractions such as Nauset Lighthouse, Marconi Beach, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, the National Seashore, many gourmet restaurants and shopping. We are proud to be a pet-friendly property! We are a house full of animal lovers and understand how special it is to be able to bring your pet along. We can accommodate visitors with well trained and well mannered dogs. We are located along busy Route 6, so we request that dogs be kept on a leash at all times while outside. Inside the house, dogs may have free-range, but we ask that you keep dogs crated if you plan to leave them in the guest rooms. Additional fees may apply.

Quick one night getaway for our anniversary and we could not have picked a better place! Location was ideal for exploring the National Seashore. Such a great vibe - love the ambiance both inside and out. Our room was cozy and they even gave us an upgrade to a room with a fireplace. Super easy to communicate with the owners. Will definitely be back!

Nice hotel. Everything is new and modern. The room is of decent size although the top floor is hit by heavy wind and at night it sounds like a plane takeoff. Good bed. The breakfast was covid-style but acceptable. Parking is tight as there a couple of hotels competing for the parking spots but they say you can park on the street.

Eastover Estate has seen better days!

Reviewed By joelrichar

This is a sad story about the Eastover Estate in Lenox MA. The place has died and no one told them they were dead! I was the winning bidder in the 2019 Berkshire Holiday Auction. I received a voucher for a one night stay for February 16th, 2020 at Eastover Estate for two people in the East Colonial building, king room, continental breakfast and wellness classes included. I was told when I made the reservation that Eastover had an indoor pool. We arrived just after 2PM on the 16th. The reception desk is located in the Mansion and you get there by walking through the Café. The Café was in complete disarray. Old food I’m guessing from breakfast was left out on the serving counter (looked like it was scrambled eggs at some point), brown apple chunks, and other unidentifiable items. The room was extremely cold in temperature. I walked through the café to the reception area. No one was at the desk, so I wandered around to have a look. The place has a musty smell to it. Almost like what you expect if this Mansion was locked up for years. There was dirt, trash, food particles and debris on the floors. The reception area needed a good dusting as anything you touched left a film behind on your hands. After a short 15 minute wait a woman came by to check me in. She said that we were staying in West Colonial Building and in a Queen room. Not the East Colonial building in a king bed. That building has a completely different feel and look from the East Colonial Building. I was also informed that there isn’t breakfast served nor is there coffee in the rooms. She doubled checked with the owner to make sure that there was no breakfast. The closest breakfast restaurant was in downtown Lenox about a ten-fifteen minute drive away. She said she believe there was two restaurants however she couldn’t remember the names. She went on to say the indoor pool is closed. We left the Mansion (Eastover should put doormats on the INSIDE so that you can wipe your feet before you go outside) we drove to the West Colonial building and went to the room. There was a couple staying in the room next to us. The walls are so thin that I could hear their radio playing and that the couple next to us were having an argument. I won’t get into the details of the argument but I will say that the women was right. Since this wasn’t the building, room type, the place has thin walls (a bed sheet would offer more sound proofing than what the wooded walls offered), no continental breakfast, no pool, and the place is just run down and dirty, we decided to cut our losses and leave after being in the room for 15 minutes. Eastover Estate has seen better days. There are so many places to stay in the area that offer the same things to do. It appears to me that over the years Eastover just gave up. No longer do the owners see what new eyes see when they visit. The appearance and upkeep of the buildings and the smells are just short of criminal. I don’t believe that a coat of paint and running a comb through its hair is going to help. I believe the current owners had been there since 2010. Perhaps it’s time for the current owners to pass the torch. The Eastover needs major work and investment so it can return as a premier estate it once was.

The 1863 House Bed and Breakfast

These delightful hosts have been residents of their centrally-located South End neighborhood for 27 years. They offer three guest rooms and lots of local knowledge! Their brick bow front Victorian townhouse was built in 1863 and features a new gourmet kitchen with a deck overlooking a secluded garden for quiet continental breakfasts. Each bedroom has a double antique brass bed with an antique quilt, a desk, and a decorative fireplace. The two fourth floor guest rooms share a bath with tub and shower. The third floor room shares the hosts' bathroom that contains a claw foot tub/shower.

We visited Boston for the first time in November and stayed with Jane and Ben for a long weekend - we couldn't have asked for a better experience. They are kind and helpful hosts and we would absolutely stay with them again. Their home is beautiful & historic, and the room was just what we needed - quaint & comfortable without breaking the bank. The location was perfect, too (5 minute drive to the Financial District, or even a 20 min walk if you're feeling up to it).

Marblehead Summer House

Located just 3 miles from the Salem line and the Salem Historic Area, you'll be in the heart of Old Town Marblehead just 200 yards from the Boston Yacht Club, co-sponsor of the Halifax Race. Surrounded by houses built in the 1700’s and 1800’s it's one of the nicest parts of the old village. The house you’ll be staying in was built prior to 1717. We weren’t the USA then you know! Walk through the back gate onto Crocker Park and enjoy swimming off the park’s float, fishing off the rocks, viewing the harbor and its 5 yacht clubs or take in one of the many Marblehead cultural events which take place on the park during the year. During the week of July 4th Crocker Park is one of the centers of activity for the Marblehead Arts Festival. Each of our 5 units include a private full bath, some also include a kitchenette. We're not a B&B and do not serve breakfast, but there are 3 restaurants within a 4 minute walk that do! With the exception of the 3rd Floor Suite the baths do not have showers. They have the original long claw-foot soaking tubs with European shower wand faucets. So, enjoy the bath!

July 4th Marblehead extravaganza!

Reviewed By summersbusiness

We stayed at the Marblehead Summer House over the week of July 4, 2018, and could not have had a better place to stay. It is one thing to walk the town and see the beautiful historic homes from the 16-17th centuries. Staying at the Marblehead Summer House gives you the opportunity to experience it from within. The old wide beam wood floors, and four poster beds, combined with modern appliances, air-conditioning and convenience to everything made it a perfect place to stay. In the back of the house is a hidden garden, neighboring Crocker Park where the bands play all day celebrating July 4th. You can hear them at your leisure while sipping a glass of wine or cup of coffee. How terrific is that. The Marblehead Summer House is steps to everything in Old Towne Marblehead. Fried dough down the street, the Muffin shop blocks away, the Landing, Matties Sail Loft, the waterfront, boats and even a swimming dock into the ocean right near by. Best Location in town to stay hands down. Plus the Innkeeper John, could not be nicer or more accommodating. Coming from Maryland, it was true New England and great. Highly recommend! Thanks John for making our stay so special! Kendall, Annapolis, Maryland

Wellesley Accommodation

This elegant Cape-style home, meticulously updated and well- maintained with high quality standards, reflects the prestige and charm of Wellesley, an upscale west suburban community just 10 miles from downtown Boston. Your well–traveled, accommodating hostess invites you to read or relax in her living room or watch TV in her family room. You will enjoy an expanded continental breakfast in her homey kitchen or on the deck just off the kitchen. The main guest room has a queen bed formerly owned by the not-very-tall Stonewall Jackson (whose bed length is only standard size). The bath is attached with a tub and shower. There is an additional guest room, for members of the same party, with a single bed and a single sleep sofa, and an attached half bath with an adjoining door into the full bath of the main guest room. Stroll through the pleasant neighborhood and within 10 minutes you are in downtown Wellesley Square with its prestigious shops and restaurants and the commuter rail to Boston.
