The best available Specialty lodgings to stay near Colorado

April 18, 2023 Natalie Tallman

Colorado is home to no less than twenty-six ski resorts such as those in Vail and Breckenridge; other winter activities include snowboarding, sledding, sleigh rides, snow hiking and snowmobiling. The state is blessed with national parks, grasslands and forests where in warmer weather you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing. Wildlife abounds, from bears to moose and raccoons to wolverines. More interested in local history? Head for either the Ute Indian Museum or the Koshare Indian Museum, and don't miss the forts such as Fort Garland and Bent's Old Fort. For a complete change, why not take a ride in a hot air balloon from South Park Valley or Boulder and admire Colorado's picturesque landscape from above?

Delightfully Quirky!

Reviewed By ValerieHamilton

My short stay at Spoke and Vine Motel was very delightful. Easy to find and super efficient check in. The room was old-fashioned small and very well appointed. Close to the cute downtown Palisade area, I was able to walk to restaurants. Breakfast and delicious coffee at my door? Yes, please. This was a much better experience than any box hotel I could've stayed at up the road in Grand Junction. Lovely, lovely find!

Very nice resort

Reviewed By nancylb8302

You can tell the resort is new bc its beautifully decorated with gorgeous grounds. It was very clean and in the lobby they had a fireplace, pool table and shuffle board game with a tv and couches. The pools and hot tubs were beautiful and overlooked the mountains. The room itself (322) was beautifully decorated with a full kitchen, a table for 4, full laundry facilities, nice size bedroom with fireplace and very large patio that overlooked the pools and mountains. My only caveat about the room is that if you keep the sofa bed pulled out there is no room to walk between the bed and the kitchen table and no place for people who are sleeping there to store their clothes. The room could've been a little bigger. As for the resort, it's not a hotel so the sofa bed was not turned down which I didnt like and there is no-one to help you with your luggage. Another con, is there really isn't a restaurant on site. They have a bar with small plates. The location was great bc it was 5 minutes from town and 5 minutes from Frisco. All staff was very friendly.

Unsafe

Reviewed By poohbear98

Above all else, I value my privacy, courtesy and safety at a hotel. The Element has none of these. The management has no concern for their guests and an express unwillingness to protect them and do what's in their best interests. The hotel is located in a seedy area near downtown with transients everywhere. My luggage was stolen from the front of the hotel on Friday and the Element did absolutely nothing to help. My passport, credit cards and electronics gone.? A police report was filed immediately, police arrived about two hours later (despite the station being two blocks away) and they asked to pull security footage. The staff told the officer their cameras don't work(!) But they would contact the gm. Before the police even tried to do their job, they told me my bag was gone especially if it was taken from that location. By 10p that night, despite numerous calls, still no response from management. The night manager, Ed, was beyond rude. How he's able to be employed anywhere other than Super 8 is beyond me. Instead of showing empathy and compassion for a dire situation, he arrogantly stated he was too busy (at 1030p and no one downstairs), and that I should take matters up with the police (which I had). He yelled at me, said they knew nothing about any security cameras and don't expect the Element to do anything. He said the general manager wouldn't be back until Monday and refused to contact her. I insisted on getting her name and asked for her voicemail. Ed deliberately sent me to a non specific voicemail that obviously wasn't hers. It's been two days with no response. On a whole other note, random employees walk into your room without knocking, while you are half naked, despite the do-not+disturb sign stuck to your door, and they will fraudulently charge your credit card hundreds of dollars "for incidentals" that don't exist, forcing you to dispute them with your credit card company. The front desk told me this happens all the time. No real complaints about the room itself except that there's barely enough water pressure to shower and the towels are tiny.

Cabin with relaxing setting

We stayed in the Corner Point cabin which was in a perfect location and quiet. We had a beautiful view of the mountains. We spent most of our time on the patio in front of the two-way glass fireplace. Our grandsons enjoyed the corn hole, the hammock and the tether ball in the middle of the property. The kitchen had sufficient supplies and the bathroom downstairs was quite spacious. The 2nd bedroom provided a separate area for our grandsons with their own bathroom. This is the 2nd stay in a cabin and we also previously stayed in the glamping tent which was a lot fun also.

This place is awesome!!

We stayed in a one-bedroom for a week in October. This is an awesome place! So close to RMNP and downtown Estes Park! We enjoyed the full kitchen as we cooked breakfast and dinner each day at the cabin. (Packed lunches for hiking in the park.) It was fully stocked and had everything we needed. The road is close to the units, but the Fall River drowned out the noise of the traffic. We saw 1-3 elk everyday at the cabins! Ready to go back again soon!

Nice location, right off the main road. The roads were kept clean easy to get in and out of with the snow. Bus system was super easy and close, easy to get around. We skied at Vail and Lions. We also sledded at theEllefson Park. The unit was clean and the management was very helpful. The pizza place downstairs was great!

Airport shuttle is shared with a few other area hotels. Check in was quick and friendly. Room was spacious, as expected since it was a “suite” type hotel. There’s a kitchenette in the room, which had a microwave, ref, stove, sink, basic utensils, plates, mugs, drinking glasses. Separate area for the closet and bathroom. Breakfast was basic fare, nothing great.

Sadly disappointed

Reviewed By L7217USlauriel

I do a lot of traveling and was really excited to stay at the Mellow Moon. I booked the hotel for a second night because we enjoyed it so much the first but my daughter became ill around 10 the morning before check in and I was forced to cancel. I was still charged the full amount despite the fact that we never even set foot in the room. I know there is a cancellation policy and I respect that but because I travel a lot with my daughter I have had to cancel last minute at least three other times at other hotels and this has NEVER happened. As a matter of fact, when other hotels find out about someone being ill, most offer to help in some way. Unfortunately, we received no sympathy and a charge of almost $200.

Timbers at Lone Eagle Condos

Timbers unit #3068 was fine...Keystone Management unfit

Reviewed By gilda

Checked into Unit #3068. Actual unit very pretty, well decorated with comfortable furniture. Excellent location. Four bedrooms; 2 with king size beds and ensuite bathrooms and 2 with bunk beds. Bathroom in hall. Had full equipped kitchen with oil, herbs, paper towels as starters plus a Keurig coffee maker with variety of coffees available. Three TVs provided. Good layout; in/out skiing to River Run Slope and 5 minutes walk to Village. Good view from balcony and safe area. Keep in mind the unit itself was ok...it was the mishandling and competence of management. There was no cleaning service, which we were unaware of. Blankets had animal hairs all over them; there were urine stains on the carpet in 2 different areas and and scratch marks on the inside of the master bathroom door. It's a no pets unit. Chest at entrance had a broken lock which was very sharp and it was sticking out. Cleaning staff said they were going to report it to management but no one came to fix it. Called to get another condo and was offered one outside the village but we had no car; the other condo they offered was ready next day but was told by management that "it was not a nice condo"; that the one we had was better. With that info we opted to stay where we were for 3 more days. To top everything off we were charged again for our stay even though this was fully prepaid. Took 5 days to get money refunded to me. This is a bad reflection on the condo owner that really has nothing to do with the problems...it's just bad management. Should have heeded the warning regarding Keystone management from other reviews in Tripadvisor. Vacation turned out well at the end but it could have been a fantastic experience instead.
