The best available Resorts to stay near Taiwan

May 3, 2023 Hector Krause

You could spend months exploring Taiwan’s Buddhist temples, villages, cities, and mountains and still barely scratch the surface of all the island has to offer. Here Confucius meets C-pop in a cultural mash-up of a place where traditional festivals are as important as hip-hop and cell phones. Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung each burst with opportunities to explore, learn, shop, and dine. Don’t miss breathtaking natural features like Sun Moon Lake, the hot springs of Tainan, and Taroko Gorge.

Wow this place is huge and has lotsa activities

Reviewed By christopherb295

There are many different theme areas or buildings within the complex and has lots of activities including water playground (heated pool or onsen is payable though), arcade and play area, shops and restaurants. We were offered free entry into A-Shin Cocoa Farm opposite too. A nice beach (though rocky) is at one end of the resort. We had a nice spacious mezzanine room, only thing is if the interiors and beddings could be of slightly better quality and maintained.

The front desk ladies have very poor experience, takes a billion years per guest and they did not follow the queue to serve guests. Toilet sink has a beautiful design but does not work nor have Basic handwash soap. One of the wooorrrrssssttttt places I have ever visited in Taiwan. Close it down really.

The Great Roots Forestry Spa Resort

Nestled away amidst peaceful nature surroundings, The Great Roots Forestry Spa Resort is your Taiwanese hideaway. Located in Sanxia Dist, New Taipei City, only 50 minutes from Taoyuan International Airport and also Taipei City. Our resort covers a 17-hectare site that was formerly the biggest tea-processing plant in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. The resort is tucked among the only low-elevation primitive tropical rainforest in Taiwan. These entire rare natural wonders wait along with the healthy and relaxing essences of the forest at the resort. In addition to enjoying the natural scenery, visitors can take a soothing and skin-pampering soak in the carbonic hot springs. Relax at the hotspring spa area, which overlooks the beautiful forests of Sanxia. The stunning natural setting contributes to an unrivaled relaxation experience. It is a place where you see the the world a little bit differently.

Low altitude rainforest

Reviewed By SCBROM

Hidden above Sanxia, this was a surprise gem that had beautiful views of the region and surprisingly strenuous trails. The first trail has mostly stone and/or concrete slabs to walk on with some railings. The second trail has dirt paths flattened by climbers and rocks to keep you from sliding as well as ropes to climb up and down. The third trail was partially blocked off so we couldn't climb it but it looked similar in terms of flattened dirt paths with rocks and ropes for climbing. The hot springs are relaxing pools with different temperatures and one has different types of massage jets.

Great hotel, great area

Reviewed By dudleybsmith

We very much enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was very good, the staff friendly, and the area is a great place to stay on Sun Moon Lake. When we visited, tourism was way down due to Covid 19. We felt the hotel had all the needed safety protocols in place, and did not let the lack of guests reduce their level of service. It was everything we expect from a highly rated hotel. The village of Ita Thao has a lot of indigenous charm, and nearby attractions like the Culture Park and Gondola are worth a visit. There is some construction on the waterfront currently.

Wonderful Experience

Reviewed By andyho28

A small hotel but gave us wonderful experience as soon as we arrived. The receptionists are really nice and helpful, they even helped us to cut the fruits we bought from the wet market. Rooms are new and clean, modern design. Toilet is big in double room, but quite small in room with twin (actually big) beds. Hot spring bath tub in room, high quality body wash is provided. Bluetooth speaker, TV, coffee machine available. Snacks and drinks are free in room and at the cafe mini bar, including fruits, biscuits, soft drink, yogurt, tea, coffee, milk, juice..... Close to 2 hot spring parks if you want to try the public foot bath. The only complain is light will come in the room via the toilet windows early in the morning. Not suitable for people who need to sleep in really dark environment. A few new hotels nearby but this one definitely worth for money.

Comfortable enough, but old and dated

Reviewed By rogerlau77

We stayed here for two nights. There are two buildings and we stayed in the Japanese Wing. Both wings are similar size in terms of their building height. Our first room ended up having no WiFi , so we ended up changing rooms. Our second room was larger but in a lower floor (3rd floor as opposed to 5th). This second room was large enough to fit two double beds. There was enough space for seats and coffee table; TV and cabinet; and sufficient wardrobe space. Generally the rooms had a dated feel to them. There is a balcony looks over the hotel gardens and to the mountains. Although we were not on a high floor, we still had a really nice view. The balcony also houses the onsen bathtub, which is the feature of this room, so you can have a relaxing bath outside. There is another door connecting the tub to the separate shower area and toilet and sink. Towels and the provided toiletries were basic but sufficient. Toothbrushes and similar items were available on request rather than already placed in the room. The hotel caters for children in that there is a kids playroom at the main wing. It’s a fairly big room with climbing and slide facilities, which kept the children entertained enough. The pool and spa complex was of decent size. The outdoor water slides were open for use if you wanted to play in them, which we did and it was fairly cold in the winter air. There are outdoor and indoor spa pools of varying functions all for use as well, which were relaxing. There is also a public onsen for nude bathing, but we didn’t use. The gym looked quite small in relative terms; the basketball court was empty and a bit dilapidated; so as their small farm. They advertised a mini golf course but I couldn’t see it within the grounds. So generally the leisure facilities were not that great. Breakfast was in the other wing so a three minute walk from our building. It was a buffet type with an adequate range of local and international foods and drinks. No particular dish stood out. The restaurant itself was clean. We also tried another restaurant in the hotel. This one had a different decor to it than the breakfasting restaurant. We ordered a la carte, where prices and food were ok. The hotel is a little on the remote side so you’ll either have to take a taxi, bus or shuttle car to get to places. Overall a comfortable enough stay was had. However, it is not five star as they claim. Generally the hotel is showing its age and staffing could be a lot better for the rating they have.

Good location, needs updating

Reviewed By Beezel44

This hotel is an old wooden structure which is very appealing, and it's right on the lake (normally, not during a drought) The staff are very friendly and helpful, switching to English when they saw us. There's an indoor pool and also jacuzzis and saunas in the men's and women's locker rooms. Unfortunately, the pool was freezing cold and unusable, and since the jacuzzis were sex-segregated my son had to hang out by himself. The room was large and the bathroom has been updated, but the room decor is old and the rugs look horrible, dirty and worn. The buffet breakfast was not good, there were very few selections for typical Western or Asian breakfast. A lot of the items were more like lunch; stir fried veggies, salad, soup. Dinner was a set meal that didn't work at all for kids and there were no other options.
